I know /o/ has a boner for the Mazda 3, but does anyone think the engine itself is too fucking long on it?

It's the main thing that's throwing off its appearance for me.

>engine too long
Wut? You mean engine bay? Go look at one in person. It's not long at all.

I just recently picked pic related over a Mazda 3.

The interior volume is worse, but the warranty and rebates were better. Also more options available for your money.

Only thing I don't like so far is that Civic Si bros always wanna race at stoplights.

I'm like "no civic bro, I dont wanna race, i didnt get the turbo for a reason."

the hood is so high on those, it looks like this shit
>>13826201
>>
>>13826623
That's all you don't like? When your wet noodle transmission explodes in 30K miles, you'll find new reasons. I'll never understand why anyone would get a fucking Korean made vehicle, they are literal garbage and only moms buy them.

Long hoods are always better. I can't stand everything looking like a truck with a short pig nose.

You sound like my father, in the 70s, about Japanese cars.
>>
>>13826671
unfortunately it's 2015 and not 1970 and Japanese cars now have a 45 year gain on that reputation, dumbass
>>
>>13826714
>reputation
If only we all bought our cars on what others think about the brand...
>>
>>13826714
pretty much this desu senpai.

Kia and Hyundai mostly produce garbage with very questionable quality. SOME models are better than others, and the quality has improved from the 90's, but it's far from where the rest of the import market is. And the velocicrapper is not one of those better models.
>>
>>13826734
Much rather would have an Optima or Sonata over a Camry or Accord.

Would even take the new Sonata over a Mazda 6 right now.

The Elantra comes better equipped for less money than nearly every other car in the class. Same for the Sonata, same for the Santa Fe, etc.

Hyundai is making undeniable inroads on the Japanese and American brands, as marked by increasing profits and sales year over year.

Perceptions change, and they're changing favorably for Korean cars, for Korean products in general even. (Samsung etc.)

Pedestrian crash safety shit + engine is moved a bit more forward than normal to fit the fuel efficient 4-2-1 headers.

The engine itself is not long.
I agree it would look nicer with a bit shorter hood, but it's mostly an optical illusion of the top of the front overhanging.
>>
The reason the hood is so long is that they redisgned the exhaust manifold/header to get better flow, iirc. It's longer so they had to lengthen the engine bay to fit it and it just so happens that they decide to design the entire aesthetics around the front.
>>
Rwd Mazda shitboxes WHEN

Also Mazda has said a few times they did that on purpose because it looks better, which I agree.
>>
>>13826570
It's an optical illusion due to the cab-back style a pillars and the way the grill is kinda vertical
>>
>>13826580
it's pretty long with nothing in it.
>>
>>13829502
The engine bay is really not that much longer than the previous model, though, if you look at pictures.

It just looks especially longer due to no longer having a rounded top-front.

But yeah, the 2012 model could not fit the 4-2-1 headers, still.

The new model is the same 0.26cD

>>13829529
Go look at one. It's stuffed. The extra overhang is just crash safety shit.
It's not much longer than the 2012 model's. It just appears more so.

Lots of people like the long hood look, anyway. I don't hate it.

Except that objective data backs up the assertion that Japanese cars are significantly higher quality and more reliable compared with Korean cars.
>>
>>13830656
Many Honda models have not been reliable lately, but people still think they are.

Oh, I was thinking of Toyota's Scion brand, probably, with the FR-S/BR-Z issues.

But if you understand how to read that chart, Honda DOES have cars near the baseline average, which is a far cry from being 60-80% more reliable than the baseline.

The most reliable Subaru, VW, Hundai, and so on of most car brands is more reliable than the least reliable Honda. So just trusting a brand is stupid.

The only thing that you get from this is Lexus, Toyota and Honda are good and FCA and Land Rover are shit.
Merc go from close to bottom to close to top, so yeah.

Feel free to post anything that disputes the fact that Japanese cars are higher quality and more reliable than Korean cars.

I test drove the Mazda3 and Mazda6 and ended up getting the Mazda6. Both were great cars, but I liked the features in the Mazda6 more.

Just go test drive it and see if you like it. Educate yourself on the packages and extras you can get on the model you are looking at so that way you can see through the "dealer add-ons" bullshit they will try and charge you for. That really goes for any car that you buy.

And Hyundai's are the definition of a gold painted turd. Sure, they look nice (well some of the models), but any corner that can be cut has been during the production of those vehicles. My sister went over a speed bump at about 5 mph faster than she should have and one of the foglights on her Elantra popped out and gtfo out of that car. My girlfriend had a Kia Soul. It felt like a Ford from the last decade. It felt like they made the car just decent enough to make you blind of all it's cheapness at the dealership only for that to wear off in about 15,000 miles when you are stuck with that piece of shit.
>>
What would be a good price after tax and fees on a 2016 Mazda 3, iTouring hatchback with popular equipment package? MSRP is $23,715
>>
>>13835250
>they made the car just decent enough to make you blind of all it's cheapness at the dealership only for that to wear off in about 15,000

People keep saying this but it's so obvious it's just their own preconceived notions. My 2013 Elantra has been absolutely flawless EXCEPT one of the rear speakers blowing (I think I'm black and use tons of bass). Took it to Hyundai and they replaced it under warranty.

Hyundai simply wouldn't make shitty cars and then give you the best warranty in the automotive industry. Get over it.
>>
I have been think about a Mazda3 s Grand Touring. Do people think the features are worth the upgrade to a Grand Touring? I definitely want the s for the extra horsepower.
>>
Got a 2016 Mazda 3.

Fun little whip.

>>13827340
Lmao the sonata drives like a tank m8, it's terrible. Go fuck yourself.
>>
>>13835805
I did about 1,000 in a rental 2015 Sonata. It wasn't a bad car, not sporty at all but it wasn't completely boring. My friends and coworkers thought it was fancy.

The 2015 Altima I switched too was much more fun but less roomy.
>>
>>13826570
my 70 something year old mother in law drives one of these

since when are people into modern grandma cars?
>>
>>13835440

Best warranty in what way? They all cover the same bullshit. And the redesigned Mitsubishi Mirage has a 10 year/100,00 mile factory warranty, but it's still a gigantic, albeit self-aware, piece of shit.

Hyundai does make poorer quality cars and warranty has nothing to do with it.
>>
>>13835250
Mazda6 are probably the best value car Mazda has.

Mazda3 cost over freaking $27k to get the 2.5l. Imagine what the Mazdaspeed 3 will cost.
Only problem is that the Mazda6 doesn't come in wagon.

>>13835721
It's super expensive. A fully loaded Dodge Dart is $22k. The Mazda3 GT is $27k+.
It's a significantly better car, but 5k better? I don't know.
Go to a dodge dealer and see what they offer you off on a Dart, and try using that against a Mazda dealer and see how much you get offered off.
If you can get it for closer to iTouring prices, it's good.

>>13835406
At least $1200 off with no dealer fee stuff would probably be very good.
It's hard to get much off the Mazda3 or MX-5 if at all, AFAIK.
The more options you get, the more you can get off, since options are typically 30-70% profit while the base car is closer to 10%.

Also if you already have a Mazda and finance through Mazda you get $700 more off, unless they ended that.

Just don't go in a dealership set to buy a car no matter what. As long as you're able to walk away, it's fine. If they don't give you your drivers license back or whatever, call the cops.
