The first time I did outside of the training class I was terrified. Terrified of crashing, terrified of stalling out, terrified of looking dumb. When I started to actually ride around town on my new bike, I began to feel exhilaration every time I twisted the throttle. It may have just been an old Sportster, but the speed on two wheels was intense for someone who'd only driven pick up trucks and small sedans. The sound of the exhaust, the wind, the vibration of the engine, all of these things combined to make a wholly new experience for me. Even after I wrecked my bike, I still needed to be on a motorcycle. I was hooked. I've been riding since 2012, and I've ridden about 35,000 miles since then. My motorcycle is my life, and getting in any car or truck now feels claustrophobic and confining. I still have as much fun on my Victory as I did my first two Harleys, probably more. Jamming that throttle open on a lonely Farm to Market road at midnight is the only true joy I have on a weekday as I get off of work. It's happy on two wheels, and without a motorcycle, I probably would have killed myself by now.

It tops out at like 108 with wobbles.
I get beat by 1200 Harley sportsters if I'm anywhere except a track.
Even in the twisties I get smashed on by a fat couple riding 2 up on a goldwing.

In the dry and warm you open her up and everything but what's directly in front of you disappears. You see a corner and judge the correct speed for it, start leaning over like a fighter pilot, look down and see tarmac running below you at speed, so close, so real, you could touch it if you wanted to.
As you reach the apex you start opening the throttle again and feel the front end go light like a porsche, while praying the rear doesn't slide out, and if everything goes right, you become the hand of someone pulling a hook punch.
In the wet dark and cold you fight for your survival as the bike never settles down. You want to hold on tightly but that only makes everything worse. You try to open the throttle just slightly but this causes the rear to break traction. Go straight and the revs rise but you don't go any faster and you chop the throttle realising your back end just became nothing but a pendulum, waiting to throw you off.
You go around a corner nowhere near the speed limit, lean over just slightly but the bike feels like it's about to spin out, but it doesn't. Your bike naturally oversteer because of the slip angles but feels like you're pulling a dagumi.
Hit any imperfection in the road and get shot with adrenaline in 0.2 seconds as both ends lose traction and regain it almost immediately.

Hey /dbt/ I just got my new bike, and after fucking with it's carbs for a bit I managed to get it to idle. However, after putting around town on it for a test ride, it ended up quietly dying and it won't kickstart alive again. I'm hoping something's just adjusted wrong. Just cleaned, I didn't try to sync it or fuck with it too much. I was so excited about getting it to idle that I just threw on my helmet and took it for a quick spin. The original problem was that it would run fine if you gave it throttle, but if you let off the throttle it wouldn't idle at all and die. Now it's being a pain in the ass to kickstart.

The pancreatic cancer is real. Chemo starts tomorrow. Prognosis is poor. I did my will this week so that my family gets the bikes and the small I amount I saved should things take a turn for the worse.
Riding was the best thing that ever came into my life. Cherish those moments dbt. I'll remember the mountain runs forever.

Actually the seals of my pushrod casings leak a bit, too, it just looks clean in the webm. (and in this pic I spilled some gas from the carbs and it got mixed up with the oil therefore it's very dirty)

there is an idle jet, maybe its plugged, but maybe this helps:
you can do it like i did and screw the idle a little higher. there is an idle screw on your carb that simply adjusts throttle position when you dont twist anything.

The magic thing about a motorcycle is it doesn't even need to be fast, and you can enjoy it a lot. When i first started out, i was on a 50cc scooter, and i was riding it the whole day, i never got bored.

You have literally no overlap of inlet and outlet valve... the cam for the 45-70 PS (wich should be exactly the same for every 2 valve boxer in this power range) has 5° of overlap.
You should be able to reach 50 ps by using the cam from any other 50/60 ps bmw of that era and the (I believe) 32 bing carbs.
I do remember that the valves were somewhat smaller but not that much.
Haven't got my books with technical data at my dorm so can't really confirm it.

It isn't really. A bicycle is agile and quick at turn-in but really easy to lose traction at high speeds. On a bicycle you're much heavier than the machine so for the most part can get away with body steering (tho taking tight turns without bleeding off speed is pretty much as exciting as it is on a motorcycle, or even more because the thin tires provide no traction whatsoever.
A motorcycle is heavier than you (wranon need not apply) so you need to use relatively high force to turn. If bicycles were as fast as motorcycles, I'd take one everytime because they'd be ridiculously terrifying

I Did a 2 day course at HART in Brisbane for my restricted licence. Was a course for total motorbike noobs who havent ever rode before. They taught everything that course you linked covers.
But in QLD we have Qride. Get learner by doing a 20 question test. Then do q ride course and get restricted licence. Have a 1year period on restrictions and then do the exact same course again but on big boy bike to get unrestricted licence.
