For the first year or so of my relationship with my current partner, she drove me around everywhere partly because I didn't have a full driver licence yet. But she gave me driving lessons, helped me overcome my nerves and encouraged me to go for the driving test (after I had failed several times before and gotten disheartened).
Where my father's teaching methods had failed, hers succeeded. I passed the test almost perfectly.
Nowadays, she's about as good of a driver as I am. Still better at handling corners than me, but on the other hand, I'm better at reversing maneuvers. So when we go out on a date, there's no strong pressure for either one of us to be -the- driver. We're both comfortable with one-another's driving skills (the fact that she drives a 6-speed manual certainly helps).
We also roughly alternate picking up the bill when going out to dinner or lunch, because we both think the idea of the man having to pay on a date all the time is bullshit, and she has a decent-paying job so she has no issue with paying for stuff some of the time.

If it's her car, of course she'll be driving,unless she's been drinking, or when she's tired, in which case she'll just hand me the keys. She only drives my car when I've drunk quite a bit. I usually feel pretty confident in her, although she has an annoying habit of coasting to a stop with the clutch depressed, and releasing the clutch a bit late during corner entry, giving me the sensation of destabilising the car (might have something to do with me riding though). Way better hypermiler then me though, as far as urban driving is concerned, and doesn't let emotions influence her driving - unlike me.
