I was a bit tight on money. I'll come this time if it's nürburgring. Alps depending if I can earn some extra money in february.

Nightride summary
>city was dead except for some people in front of the clubs
>spare helmet was useless 'cause no people
>got to explore some pedestrian areas
>only one hooker out there, almost asked her for a ride for keks but nah
>streets got wet, very light rain
>had some fun with a qt gas station cashier

I forgot it's getting winter, no one goes out at night. Only other rider I met was a harley dude and someone on a quad driving rounds around the club.

I don't commute on my bike. Maybe occasionally stop at a store or something while I'm out riding but riding to school/work isn't worth the effort imo. Can't really use the fun aspects of the bike when commuting so I might as well take the much more convenient Camry.

It was first orientated with cars in mind. When you park your faggot Honda car, you exit on the left side. If you do a 360 quick scope, you can take a pic of said car and then it boom it should be somewhat good enough for the collage. I wanted to make it the easiest by just doing that. It wasn't until recently that bikes finally joined the collage. Even with the simple regulations, their are still lazy faggots not joining said collage.

It's part of brotruck culture. Just like the lift kits, big mud tires, and big exhaust. The people who daily drive these trucks and never do truck things need to add truck-culture parts to feel like they fit in and look like they do truck things.

Those mirrors meant are for people hauling trailers.
>>
>>13820786
They'd say it's better for towing caravans, but they never check the mirrors anyway. So, probably just because it's BIG, and BIG is BETTER because FREEDOM.

not really. The type of bike doesn't much effect the disadvantages of taking a motorcycle over a car (I'll list them below). The only ones that might be better are baggers and touring bikes, but they would have their own disadvantages.

Disadvantages of commuting on my bike:
>inherently more dangerous in the event of a crash
>cars more likely to pull out in front of me, merge into me, rear-end me and cause a crash
>even more dangerous if I don't wear gear
>if I do wear gear then I have to find a place to store it at my destination
>temperature changes a lot during the day. If I prepare myself for the morning coldness then I am going to be hot on my way home. If I prepare myself for afternoon heat then I will be cold in the mornnig.
>any cold-weather gear is extra stuff to carry
>takes time to gear up/down.
>less comfortable
>school requires separate $80 parking pass for motorcycles. This is the main reason I don't ride to school really.

I ride my Harley in the low 40s to physical therapy in winter gear and by the time I get out it's like 60. In addition to that I have to bring work out clothes and change there. I take up 3 cubbys and so much space on the coat rack if someone is sitting in the chair I can't even hang up my riding jacket. It's a Forty-Eight with no bags and no storage, no rack, no pillion seat. When I leave I remove the liners from my jacket and roll it up with the workout stuff. I do all this with a fucking bungee cord. The only issue is the gloves, they're not true winter gloves so my hands are a little cold on the way in, and a little warm if it's 70F and sunny on the way back.

That's sounds like a question only you know the answer too.

I learned on a Minsk 125cc 1 cylinder. Next thing I rode was my buddies Kawasaki Turbo 750 with 180 horse. Too much. Ran from the cops.

Bought a Triumph Speed Four, fast enough on the highway, but not enough torque down low on the streets.

the difference is it sounds like you can't wait to get back on a bike, whereas I wasn't ready.

my advice would be go bike shopping. you can't do anything too stupid without a bike and until you have a bike you're not able to ride then maybe you can spend some time finding the really perfect biku, buy it and

then you can be depressed.

i did it for 2 years in florida.

>inherently more dangerous in the event of a crash
unless you are going nowhere near a city, you wont be moving fast enough for it to really matter.
>cars more likely to pull out in front of me, merge into me, rear-end me and cause a crash
actually, cars tend to hit larger vehicles more. i dont know why, but i suspect its because larger vehicles cant swerve away as well.
>even more dangerous if I don't wear gear
...then wear gear.
>if I do wear gear then I have to find a place to store it at my destination
buy a backpack.
>temperature changes a lot during the day. If I prepare myself for the morning coldness then I am going to be hot on my way home. If I prepare myself for afternoon heat then I will be cold in the mornnig.
buy gear to negate it. a good windproof jacket and thermals underneath will hold you to about 40 deg. or less.
>any cold-weather gear is extra stuff to carry
leave it on the bike. my jacket stays on there in a tool bag about the size of a 2 liter bottle.
>takes time to gear up/down.
less than a minute, power ranger.
>less comfortable
subjective.

get something you can wear under your helmet that covers your neck like a balaclava or fleece half mask. personally ive found both plus an Oxford comfy neck warmerâ„¢ all luckily fit under my helmet. Thermal underpants/shirt ontop of that with my windproof rain suit over that and nylon gloves under my riding guants would have me sweating at red lights. dont take hypothermia lightly at all though. it makes you ride like you're on drugs or something.

Guys, complete newbie here. Just Read the stickies. Australian poster here, in Victoria.

Now, I'm having trouble narrowing down what I want for a bike. My stats:I'm about 75 kgs and 178cm which is 5'10' and 165 pounds. LAMS ofc.

I'm kinda limiting myself to 250s, but I'm open to the KLR-650 and DR650 ONLY due to price and relative low weight of the DR650. .However the heavy weight of the KLR is turning me off, at 178 kgs I'm worried its not a newbie-friendly bike if it tips.

Okay, so in the 250cc market I'm still torn between whether or not I should go dualsport or not. I love the idea of being able to go out on trail roads but I have done zero dirt biking before in my life . Ideally I would like to go on highway trips a fair bit later on as I get more experience with riding a bike, but for the first year or so it'll be mostly city commuting with weekend highway/bush forays. Looking at buying a used bike at this point so purchases around 4000-5000 mark are what I'm browsing for, if I can get a new bike at that price I might plow down for it.

So far, the bikes I am open to

In the "Dual sport" category
Honda CRF250L - was originally thinking this one, before I did more research.
XT250
DRZ400
DR650
KLR 650

In the 'Road bike" category

I know very little about road bikes since I was all about the "utility" of dual sports, but been having second thoughts now. I have been looking at 3 main bikes
CBR250R
Kawasaki Ninja 250r
Honda CBE 125 (the cheapest option, brand new costs only 2.5k) - but I am worried this will struggle on highways and the like.

After my friend crashed on his dual sport, he says he is reticent to go riding on trails period. So I am not sure whether or not a dual-sport is a good beginner purchase after all.

Thanks for your time

DR650. Its aircooled (added simplicity and less shit to break but easier to overheat in heavy traffic., good amount of both hp and torque for a beginner and pretty damn tough. A little heavy for tight trails but still sufficient if you are just cruising around dirt roads and such. Pretty road worthy as far as dualsports go too.

>>

just keep it moving. stopping for long periods or going excessively slow will overheat them in warm weather.
they tend to idle high or act a little different when the temps start getting too high, so you at least get clued in
>>
>>13821889
You don't think 650 CC will be over-excessive for a newbie?
>>
>>13821889
One more question, the DR650 doesn't seem to have any electronics package on the front, i.e I don't know what gear I'm in nor does it have a fuel gauge indicator. Are there aftermarket parts to procure for at least the fuel indicator?
>>
>>13821916
It's as simple as asking yourself, are you retarded? Like seriously do you feel that your immaturity gets the best of you? Do you randomly burst of autism out of the blue?

On serious note, it's all throttle control man, 250 are more forgivable, but almost all of them get boring within couple months, so unless you have a track that you want to track your 250/300, by all means.

650 single cylinders are pretty friendly, especially the one in the DR650. Its low strung and makes about 36hp and 30torque iirc, dont quote me. Pretty nice for a newbie without being totally gutless. As far as electrics go, many bikes do not have a fuel gauge or gear indicator. (newer ones do) You usually get a feel for it pretty quick. A good way to find out range is to set the trip meter to zero. ride around untill you need to switch onto reserve, remember that mileage number and keep that in mind while riding. Reset the trip meter every fill up. As for remembering what gear you are in, there isn't much to do beside rid around and get a feel for it. I hardly pay attention to what gear number I am in (aside from making sure Im in first at a stop or top gear while highway cruising.) I just got used to feeling how the bike was performing and shifting accordingly. If you really need to know for some reason then just count your shifts.

Thanks for the responses guys.

I got exhilarated on a 125 CBE so I don't know if what you say about the 250s will be true for me.

A couple more questions regarding the "Dual sports", are they really that much more worthwhile, or would I be better off starting with a road bike for now and in the future few years or so and investing in a dual sport or dedicated off-roader when I can?

The lower price of the road 250s is really drawing me in (at the 3900-4000 mark) whereas most of the dual sports cost about a 1000 bucks more at the bare minimum.

Help me /dbt/. I live in Utah and I currently own a DRZ650 for the ebin trails all around here. I'm due for an upgrade this year. I want something a bit more highway friendly then a DRZ650. I keep fucking seeing people with KTM 1190 Adventure R's everywhere here! Even my friend has one! He let me ride it for a bit and I had a platinum erection the whole time. B-but KTM a shit right!? Right?! Do I take the plunge?

Depending on your wallet, but I would suggest the plain one, that 33L tank of the GSA is massive.

Grab a small socket and soda bottle.
Make a gravity bong, shit's easy and fucks your shit up.
Just have enough to smoke. You can easily burn a gram in a single bowl depending on bottle size.
