IT HAS A GARGANTUAN 2.4 V6, PRODUCING A MINDBLOWING 170 HORSEPOWER

IT WAS MADE BY THE EX-NAZIS SO YOU KNOW IT'LL BE GOOD

YOU CAN ROAST TWO BRATWURSTS ON IT BECAUSE THERE ARE TWO EXHAUST PIPES

HOWEVER THESE TWO BUTTONS ARE TOO FAR APART, AND THATS WHY NOBODY SHOULD EVER BUY ONE

Hell give it to Hammond to review or theyll both make May do it so he can bitch about how anotjer sensible car got ruined
>>
He'd hat my large displacement but weak V6 04 silverado. Plastic interior with too much audio, red neon inside that makes him think of a whore house. It's too tall (6 inch lift on 33's), handles like rubbish and is slower than James May. But it has a mad sounding exhaust and a proper manual transmission.

Richard Hammond on the other hand would love it.

Judging by what he thought of Hammond's bugeye WRX in the Africa special, he might not like it, though he would probably like its styling better.

Hammond already reviewed an Outback of the same gen before Top Gear and he thought it was fantastic, so he'd probably like the one with a close ratio gearbox, limited slip rear end, sport suspension, and tighter steering ratio better. It will get sideways in the rain/on gravel if you beat on it, even though it's a little low on power.

This is not the greatest car in the world. It's not even a tribute. It's ten years old and it wears each of those ten years on its face with the dignity an old Japanese maid. The wheels have been nipped and scratched by dozens of kerbs. The headlights have faded. Someone, somewhere, seems to have run into the back of it at some stage and broken one of the lights. It may never be truly beautiful again, but the patina of age has given it something more than that. It's given it character. It's a car that's lived a life and been enjoyed rather than been sequestered away in a garage to be admired.

And then you slip inside her, and realise that she can still put a smile on your face.

How old is it, and what is it? Because that might actually work out for you. They tend to find beat up old cars that keep on chugging despite all odds kind of endearing. See the first American road trip special (the one with the Camaro, Cadillac, and Ram).

>And here we have the finest example of Japanese engineering. The MR2 spyder.
>Ridiculously small door frames, a soft top, absolutely no storage capacity, and plastic everywhere. Toyota is a real glutton for quality.
>But hang on a minute... does it...? Yes, the outside clearly looks like it stole the lines from a Porsche.
>Cosmetically they share a similar body, headlights, soft top, and even side gills
>This is because they both share a mid-mounted engine, with rwd.
>The similarities stop there, it would seem.
>The lightweight sports car is powered by a piddly 1.8L 1zz-fe engine with VVT-I, and makes a meagre 140 hp- and although you don't feel it in the turns, you'll feel it in the straights.
>The clutch-less sequential manual transmission makes a refreshing change from actually wanting to drive anywhere in a pleasurable manner, instead forcing you to wait several seconds in between up or downshifting before the clutch finally decides to catch, jerking you forward or backward, depending on how you prefer.
>Once you get rolling, you forget about the crumby transmission, and instead enjoy shaking your teeth loose on every bump in the road. When you think about it, it's probably worth it though, when you get to make turns like thiiiiis.

I'm pretty sure it would sound something like this:

"Frankly, I thought driving this car would be atrocious.
And it is!
Mainly because this particular car is equipped with the 1.4 litre petrol engine, producing a maximum of only 75 bhp. And that's just enough to not make it go backwards. In fact, this is the base spec version with literally nothing on it except for a cassette deck and an air condition, which at least means there's little to go wrong.
However despite feeling like an incest child of a Transporter and a Polo this one cannot deny his Volkswagen heritage. The steering is remotely responsive and the gearbox is quite nice to operate. But that does not make up for the lack of oomph of the engine. And I am reminded of that everytime I shift down.
>shifts down
>engine noise
>rocks in his seat
COME OOOON!!!

Driving this car is a bit like a business trip to Germany.
You arrive in Munich just in time for the Oktoberfest, but your hotel is in the outskirts of the city, your room does not have a minibar, and you spend a fortune after the horribly boring meeting to at least get a few German beers at the bar before leaving the next day the same way you came. A missed oppotunity for a tremendous German party.
It tries to be a sensible car for sensible people but it's so utterly, utterly boring it even makes James's Panda look flamboyant to me.
All in all this is a very typical piece of German engineering. Very practical and efficient.
But unless it's got a GTI or an R badge on its back this sensible car just does not make sense to car enthusiats"

But if he did somehow review it, Top Gear style.

>This is a 1970 Volkswagen beetle (said with increasing disgust)
>It has the single port 1.5 liter, aircooled, flat 4
>it's faster than the older ones, but not as fast as the 1.6 dual port models
>It has IRS instead of swing axle suspension in the back, meaning you won't die of axle tuck when you turn

[Clarkson driving it around the test track]
>The first thing I notice is the abysmal acceleration, as expected
[that camera shot of beetle "speeding" by]
>and when you're finally done getting to top speed, you're not really going too fast either
[shot of beetle turning]
>In the corners, it's like a 911 but with absolutely appalling body roll
>Hammond might enjoy it, also because it's really small in here
>the steering is incredibly loose (while wiggling steering wheel between 11 and 1 o'clock positions and traveling in a straight line)
>The brakes are 4 wheel drum with no assist, but that doesn't matter so much when it weighs less than a ton
>There are some good things though
