Dodge teases drool-worthy Challenger GT AWD concept

The Challenger’s stock 5.7-liter Hemi V8 engine has been paired with its expected eight-speed transmission. It’s received the Scat Pack 3 Performance Kit treatment, though, adding 79 horsepower (59 kW) and 44 pound-feet (60 Nm) of torque. These gains come from Mopar Performance CNC-ported cylinder heads, Mopar hi-flow manifolds, and hi-flow catalysts. The exhaust manifolds, exhaust adapter, upgraded gaskets, and Scat Pack 3 badging comes as well. This is a new off-shelf option from Mopar.

The transmission includes an all-wheel drive powertrain, putting this concept Challenger GT in a whole new league of performance. Performance vehicles utilizing AWD generally have better off-line power delivery through better traction and gain a boost in the corners thanks to the better grip offered through all four wheels turning in unison.

Never buy a car with more scat packs than pedals
>>
>>13815408
It might handle well. Although knowing Dodge, probably not. I'm not sure AWD can save this thing
>>
>instead of ford's drift mode it gets burnout mode
>>
>>13815424
It'll be interesting to find out, at the very least.
>>
>>13815424
Isn't the Charger and 300C available with awd?
>>
>>13815524
Yeah they do. But I was just associating it with the current Charger which is a noise and straight line machine more than turning.
>>
>>13815546
Charger and Challenger both, really. Putting it on AWD might make it behave decently in a corner, though. Probably not excellently. I'd expect "2011 Mustang" rather than "2013 Camaro".
>>
>>13815546
A shit, meant Challenger, not Charger
>>
>>13815546
>>13815555
Honestly. I think putting awd on it is a bit pointless (aside from the hellcat which actually would need it)

They're fucking heavy enough as it is without another <300lb of mechanical components to add on
>>
>>13815524
Normie AWD is mostly for customers in snow areas. To save gas nearly all basic AWD systems don't send power to all four wheels unless it detects wheel spin. Meaning performance wise there's mostly no difference, the AWD doesn't kick in until already in the turn. On the bright side, dodges current AWD is rear wheel biased. Ford Taurus AWD is fwd biased.

Probably testing it on the 5.7 first before attempting the 392. AWD system that can stand the Hellcat would be super car territory.
>>
>>13815580
I don't care if it's faster. It's boring, disconnected, and less useful. I would rather have a manual version of a car that is twenty seconds slower around the burgerking than the autotragic version if I had to.
>>
>>13815567
eh, it's low-slung weight.
>>
>>13815590
The Viper and Challengers will be the last manuals available (except Dart maybe but damn Dodge has forgotten about that car fast) the 8 speed is proving to be a success, a company that is 3rd place all the time will love taking one more option off the list and streamlining things.
>>
Id buy a challenger in a heartbeat if they werent made by Dodge.

No point in owning a sports car with an autotragic unless you are just a casual buying a brand.
>>
>>13816298
Well that's what is happening. The Viper is manual only and is arguably the fastest production car or is top 5 easy, has had no issues like overheating, still getting cut for lack of demand. Dodge has kept the Challenger with manual transmission option on all trims except v6 models, less interest there as well.

>>13816332

Not denying that. Still gonna sit around angry and bitch about it though because I hate people.

>awd
Wow, america might finally be catching on. Better late than never. Same with forced induction
>muh V8
>muh natural aspiration

This country is such a slave to "heritage", it's fucking gross. Not talking about handling at all, but awd is obviously better for putting big power down.

Ever wonder why cars like the evo and sti have 100+ less horsepower than the V8 pony cars but still manage to get comparable 0-60 times (sub 5 second)? Yeah, awd launches gard as fuck.
>>
You know what I really want? A muscle car that doesn't do burnouts...one that weighs more than most SUVs sold today. AWD in a muscle car doesn't seem like any fun to me. I think it will be a huge success though, people eat AWD the fuck up. I never understood why everyone thinks they need AWD...the world still existed before every car had AWD...AWD is for people who don't know how to and/or don't enjoy driving.

Also, AWD on a "muscle car", KEK

I have an AWD car, love driving , and will out drive you in any situation. You won't even come close.

The ironic thing about this is that Chevrolet brought an AWD Chevrolet Camaro to SEMA as well. with over 600 HP, and a manual transmission.
