What does /o/ think of fender mirrors? I personally love them
I personally think they look kind of stupid, and they're really dysfunctional. You can't see shit in them, they defeat the purpose of even having fucking mirrors.
Mirrors on the A-pillar look better and work better. Fuck this stupid "JDM" shit, the only reason they're on the hood is because chinkland has tiny streets and normal mirrors would get broken off.

They work better for some people. You don't need to divert your eyes at all from the road to see from them, and allow you to see the entire side of your car.

What kind of driving are you doing that a normal side view mirror affects your driving ability/safety?
There is literally no good reason for these, the ONLY reason they existed was already mentioned. They were eventually deemed to be incredibly gay and automakers started using normal mirrors.

i think theyre good. i havent experienced any issues with them people say there's less visibility and while the mirror is usually smaller often theyre curved so you actually get more visibility than modern mirrors
As for looks? anything newer than '79 looks out of place with them. its a very classic car (or purpose built racer) thing and looks dumb when americans do it to their ford fiestas n shit.

They were required in Japan until 1983, and Japan has a USDM fetish just as much as do with JDM, so when door mirrors were legalized in 83 everyone wanted them and fender mirrors just kinda died off except for taxis. Tiny streets doesn't really have anything to do with it.

The main reason taxis still use them is for the passenger's privacy, it's seen as more courteous as the driver doesn't have to turn their head as much, making the passenger feel more comfortable.
With door mirrors you have to take your eyes off the road directly in front of you, with fender mirrors you can see both at the same time.

I'm not sure about third world countries, but Toyota still makes the same Toyota Comfort that they released in 1995 with fender mirrors for taxis. Go to google maps and street view Tokyo, you'll see thousands of them, all with fender mirrors.

You can, but if your car isn't a Japanese car made before 1985 or so it won't look right. Fender mirrors will be worse in terms of aerodynamics, the weight difference will be negligible.

Drag is about the same for both. If anything, fender mirrors would reduce frontal area by a little, but not much. Weight should be the same.
Not sure about legality, but I have seen them on newer cars like Miatas and 240SXs. Not sure if they were technically legal in the US, but lots of people do it. If your car is from the early 80s or 70s nobody will probably question it.
Can look good if era appropriate like OP pic, although I prefer body colored. Dumb as fuck that my roommate wants to stick some on his EG hatch.

Tesla wasn't to have no mirrors on the Model X. Instead having tiny wide angle cameras where the mirrors would have been. Showing what the cameras see on the gauge screen.

What's worse is that it's "adaptive" steering, so the input level changes based on speed. I took a wide turn really fast the other day, almost went in the motherfucking ditch because the steering was automatically calibrated to be looser.
