What's the point of lifting a truck? I've driven in them a few times and it just seems awkward. Almost like you're driving a school bus and on a podium for everyone to watch you. My stock height truck seems to do just fine in the snow as well as far as clearance goes.

Are the front axle seals difficult to do on these things? Both of mine are leaky, but not by much.
I topped up the front diff about two weeks ago and it only took about 0.25 of a quart.

i would just guess that your engine has way more torque so it doesn't have to put forth as much effort/RPM's? like all those rat rods and v8 miatas that get 20+ mpg. even stock, third gen 4runner's only got 16 mpg city i think.

It came with 9.25" IFS and 9.5" semi float 14 bolt. Swapped out the IFS for a Dana 50, then swapped out the 9.5" for a disc brake 10.5" full float 14 bolt. Now I'm finishing up a Dana 60 to replace the Dana 50.
Not lifted, but tall for stock. On 285/75r16s. Does pretty good in the mountains

If you're going for clearance for off-roading, I'd say that the portal axle may be more beneficial than simply lifting; The drivetrain would probably be less susceptible to damage while off-roading.
