I could get a Seat Mii for less than 10 grand. Or a Renault Twingo. Or a Dacia of my choice.

The reason the Chinese aren't going to invade the market like the Japs or, to a lesser extent, the Koreans is because there's already quality new cars available to suit non-enthusiasts of all budgets.

And that's before you account for the Chinese auto industry being managed by a bunch of clueless party loyalists.

Because VW was pretty mediocre during the 80-90s and couldn't join the fun party in the US unlike the Japanese.

So they went China which was unbelievably irrelevant and overlooked by all the other major manufactures back then despite the enormous population size and market potential, and started some dirty shit with the commies.

They might have experience WITH battery technology but there's two things:

a) They don't develop battery technology
b) They can't make what they develop (if they did)

You simply have no idea what it takes to be on the cutting edge of battery tech and why only the Japanese and Tesla autos are collaborating with it. The chinese will get to play with new battery tech when it's put on the market. Until then they just throw up fake facades and huge promises.

Wanna know what is it like to drive a Chery QQ?

>You grab the handle, open the door and step into the vomit-like smelling interior
>You put your ass on the hard cloth seat, looking around the black and beige plastic that covers every corner of the interior
>Every single button and switch feels different from the others. Some of them are soft, and some of them are so hard you will end up fading the painted plastic with your fingers
>With the gear knob from neutral, the gate for 1st and 2nd has less resistance than the gate to 5th and Reverse
>You grab the key and (try to) put it into the ignition, most of the time with difficulty
>Once it fits properly, you fire up the 1.1 alloy engine
>The sound coming from the engine is literally mechanical agony. A high pitched whine is heard from idle all the way to the 6500 RPM fuel cut
>Is noise that the power steering? Maybe the AC compressor? No. It's the engine itself. You have to live with it.
>Shifting to first with some struggle, the car's pathetic acceleration reminds you why people all over the world suffer and need love in their lives
>You continue to shift every gear with an audible (and tactile) clunk coming right below the shifter. No exceptions, it always happens
>The fragile plastic stalks reminds you to turn on your lights. But wait, there is no stalk for the headlights. It's a knob on the dashboard; you need to slide it up and down to make it "fall" on its determined positions
>The gloomy yellow barely lights up the silver plastic on the gauges

And torture continues for every detail you find.

Ford’s been showing off its latest wares at the Beijing Auto Show this week, including an all-new Escort compact, as it touts its recent success in the world’s largest automobile market. Its sales there were up an astonishing 49 percent in 2013, and have risen another 45 percent so far this year.

But while it can’t seem to make enough cars and crossovers to meet demand, Ford doesn’t even try to sell its F-150 pickup in China, despite the fact that unofficial gray market importers sell some versions of the popular truck for upwards of $160,000.

Apparently sensing an opportunity in the market, a Chinese brand has stepped in to satisfy the demand for “Built Ford Tough” style at a tenth of the price, just $16,000, according to Car News China.

The Jiangsu Kawei K1, also on display at the auto show, features an admitted cribbing of the F-150’s design, including its distinctive headlight shape, wheel arches, bumper insert and tailgate, plus fender vents that are clearly inspired by the ones on the Raptor. Inside, it’s a slightly more original, but still manages to steal some of the flavor of the F-150’s cabin.

>The situation is very different under the skin, however. The K1 is only available in two-wheel-drive and is powered by either a 140 hp gasoline or 105 hp diesel engine, both designed by Mitsubishi and mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. The K1s top speed is just 80 mph.

And Chinese people love Buicks.
They're an odd sort, probably more materialistic than your average american. The status of whatever object they buy is very important to them.

There's still a large market for their cheap cars, especially in up-and-coming places like the BRICS

But there is already a plentiful supply of cheap gutless shitboxes that don't fall to pieces in a matter of months or ill you in 30mph crashes, should their manufacturers choose to export them to the states. If there was a big enough market, though, surely they would be.

What about North Korean cars?
You can get them in Vietnam (or North Korea for that matter)

If it was cheaper than your average US car, sure.

If it offered more bang for the buck, maybe.

Never ever gonna happen though.

The rest of the shit in this thread looks exactly like good shit from America, Europe, and Japan, just most likely with extremely shitty internals.

Which is odd, because based off the evidence of their knockoff electronics, Chinese rechargeable battery tech is garbage.

The battery in my knock off Samsung Galaxy (they call it the Universe lol) is actually better than the one in my mates Xperia Z2

also most of them reach 650000 km and parts are so common, it'll be cheap to mantain.
Santana 3000 it was actually the first WV which was (partly) engineered by WV Shanghai.

Agreed that Chinese do love Buicks. Pic related is me. There was an article saying that Buick is designing them with the Chinese consumer in mind, and volvo was creating cars in China for the US consumer.

>>13816744
I don't think that is accurate. Chinese have a huge savings rate. Most car purchases are all cash, I don't think financing was even a thing until recently.

All dealerships have cash counters because people even pay in physical cash.

Makes me wonder what the chineese market would buy
They like f-150s
Would they like rams?
What about a mini semi truck thing, built on a full size truck chassis?

Not until they prove they can make a reliable tuner-style car that gets good aftermarket support, and handles nicely.
When China can make their own Honda Civic equivalent without copying anyone, then I'll consider one.
>>
As someone who went to china let me tell you that almost no one drives a Chinese car, even in small towns you'll see japs or european cars more than chinese cars. I saw tons of bmws, audis, camrys and mercedes
>>
>>13813614

Not until they're:

A) proven not to be built out of asbestos.
B) China becomes a democracy

If those are made in the same factory (Xiamen Feng Tai bus) as the busses I work on, they are junk. I work on busses all day every day (cos bus mechanic) and the 50+ Chinese busses we have are absolute shitters from brand new. their silicon coolant hoses start splitting from when they are 1 week old and continue until you have replaced every one of them. The bearings in their acessory belt idlers don't have any grease in them, so after a few weeks of driving around the idler seizes and fucks the belt. The headlights and tail lights cloud up because they aren't made of UV stabilized plastic, we have to replace them every 12-24 months. Everything aside from the chassis and suspension is welded together by children. We even had one come in where the front suspension had just been tacked together and the 'welds' on the rest of it were actually a bead of urethane. They are a joke because the Chinese either don't know or they don't give a fuck.
>>
>>13817347
That could actually be a legit L300, Mitsubishi kept making them up until last year and dodge and mitsi have rebadged each others cars for overseas markets before.

why so upset?
>>
No. Chinese manufacturers are only out to make a quick buck when they sell outside of China. They do not care one bit about the quality of their products because there are no repercussions for them. They leave that to the resellers to deal with. Just look at their motorcycles; there aren't any official Hongdu dealerships in Europe are there?
>>
>>13813623
isn't the sonic, or aveo, or some weird mini chevy car a rebadge of these Cherry things?
>>
>>13818922
nope. the Cherry QQ is a copy (not a rebadge) of the Daewoo Matiz. The second generation Matiz is sold in America as the Chevy Spark. The Matiz has never had anything to do with the Chinese.

i did. brand new. kept it for a while, no problems at all.

if you live in a country where power windows and alloy wheels are a luxury and your locally available mainstream brands rape you for base model econobox (i.e latam) then, make sense.
quality reminded me earliest 90's hyundai.

if you live in north america or don't like hyundai or consider yourself a "car guy, who drives enthusiast oriented cras" or think cruze/elantra are "small" cars, then, they're for not you.
