Old one (>>13772109) is at bump limit.
Time for a new one.

>I am able to run VINs and plates. For plates, the plate and state are needed. Plates do work most of the time, but VINs are more reliable.
>Please remove hyphens (dashes) from VINs/plates - unless they happen to be part of a vanity plate. This makes copying and pasting easier.
>I can only run cars in/originally in the USA/Canada. If they've been exported from the USA/Canada, a report with their time here will be available. Not yet sure about imported cars.
>Cars need to be of the 1981 model year or newer. That's when standardized VINs began. Anything older simply cannot be run for a report.
>There are never I(i), O(o), nor Q(q) in VINs. This is to avoid confusion with 1 and 0. So if you are unsure, it is always 1 or 0 (not the case for classic cars, but they cannot be run anyway).
>VINs must be 17 characters exactly. No more, no less.
>For any questions/comments you'd prefer to say outside the thread, my email is [email protected]

Why thank you kind sir, I would have posted VINs but you helped me out in the last thread. I was the one looking at the C5 Corvette. Also, how is your truck? Any issues?
>>
>>13812028

Well if you get anymore VINs, send 'em my way.

The truck is great; loving it. I spent a good sum on it, so there are no problems that need addressing right now. I just did the first oil change on it today.

lol

But yes. She fine. The other...not so much.
>>
>>13812078

I've never done offroading, but part of why I got a truck was to try it out. Not many places around me (North NJ) but I'll see what I can do. But that's for the future at some point. For now I learning the truck, enjoying it and checking on maintenance.

But I did already have a bunch of stuff in the bed the other day. Pretty neat to already use the truck aspect of my new vehicle, since it's my first pickup.
>>
>>13812087
Nice, I'm a Texasanon myself, so I have plenty of places to Off-road. I just use my friends Jeep Wrangler, 2001 I think.
>>
>>13812099

Oh very cool. A Wrangler down there in the Southland. I bet that's fun. Wish I didn't live in the worst state in the country.

The only mentionable area I've heard of in NJ is the Pine Barrens. Nothing crazy, but it's something. Otherwise, local fields and small, forgotten paths.

I do hear there's some nice 4x4 park in PA. I might check that out some day. But I have no buddy to go with me in case I get stuck or something, so I'd be a bit leery.
>>
>>13812121
No offense, but NJ is pretty bad. I hear it's a pain in the ass to own any decent guns.
>>
>>13812148

This state is awful. The most idiotic laws (such as 19 to buy tobacco) and so many of them. Also, taxes are absurd - especially here in Morris County. One of the most expensive counties in the country, I believe.

Yeah NJ is not a gun-friendly state. The process to get even a rifle or shotgun is a bother and takes forever. Then even longer for a handgun. And no type of carry is allowed unless mandated by your job (or you're an ex-cop).

The only thing I can say in favor of this state is good pizza. Oh and it's got a lot of good areas to raise families I suppose.
>>
>>13812178
Yeah, if you ever do consider moving, I would say Texas us bretty gud. People like to hate on it with
>muh illegal Mexicans
But it's not really an issue, unless you live on the border
>>
>>13812199

The only issue I can think of with Texas is the heat. As the year go by, I grow increasingly bothered by hot weather. I prefer a bit cooler. Right now is best. Not only is Autumn beautiful here, but it has the best weather; chilly but not cold.

My uncle lives in Texas though, so I'd at least still have family there.
>>
>>13812211
It can suck during the summer, but you get used to it. It's actually only 56 right now. In the summer, it is usually 90, but can go to 100.
>>
>>13812223

Hell, that doesn't even sound SO much hotter than here. I've seen 100 a few times here. But it typically tops at high 80s, low 90s. Nominal Summer temperature are more like upper 70s/low 80s.

56 sounds quite nice. Basically perfect.
>>
1ftef14h9rna768892
>>
>>13812473

Both AutoCheck and Carfax are reporting 0 records for this one. Either there's a typo, and it's coming up as an ultimately unused, but valid VIN or it's been cleansed/wiped/cleared/illegally erased.

The latter is not likely.

If it's something else, I can't say.
>>
>>13812211
Hot and nothing to do. Unless you live in Austin and like going to clubs etc. It's hours to get anywhere

I like Marble Falls! Austin is a bit far, assuming you need something from a city. I love about 30 minutes from Marble Falls, and its really pretty.
>>
>>13812912

Oh wow, what an odd coincidence. I pick a random place like Marble Falls, and you know it.

Years ago (2007?) I used to talk to a girl from Marble Falls. Man, she was cool/cute. And that accent!
>>
>>13812942
Accent? I guess I don't notice it...do we really have an accent?
>>
>>13812961

I love when people say that. My Australian friend says it, too.

Yes, you mostly certainly do. Texan accents tend to be more identifiable (along with, say, Louisianan) among Southern accents. Texans tend to have a smoother, "friendlier" accent. And I dunno what the average girl down there sounds like, but if they sound like that girl, I gotta head down there.
>>

>>13812987

Yeah's taken off quite a bit around here, too. I figure it's just about ubiquitous across the country. While obviously nice to look at, I've gotten tired of seeing so many girls dressing more and more like a skank; showing as much of their body as they can. It's offputting, ultimately.

You sound like a salesman, or a travel agent of some sort. Maybe give it a try, eh?

That's one bumpin' gas station. I'd be there erryday. I mean, look at that otter.

Oh also, NJ is one of 2 states in which we cannot legally pump out own gas, and have attendants. While I DO like how many jobs this makes (seriously, A LOT), I do NOT like that it's compulsory. I would like to have the option of doing it myself or letting the attendant do it.
I do sometimes anyway, if it's busy as fuck.

>>
>>13813105
Can't pump your own gas? WHAT?! Thats crazy man...shouldn't be allowed.
>>
>>13813108

That place is THAT fucking big? That's absurd. I've never heard of anything that big, except MAYBE at rest stops off highways.

>>13813128

Oh oh okay. Not sure if that makes it better or worse, though.

Sounds rough. Accidents blow dick. Has the dashcam worked in your favour?

Nothing. I am guessing that, for whatever reason, the Merc's accident was not reported to AutoCheck. A delay this long is absurd. Any delays are rarely ever more than a week, mostly a day or two. The titling for the truck I just purchased went on record a day after.

>>13813149

I know, I know. It's stupid as hell. And NJ folk have a habit of forgetting this when traveling, so someone will pull up to a pump and just shit there like an asshole until they remember they gotta do it themself.

There are a LOT of Bucees that big. The one I usually frequent is Bastrop. Also, you're in Houston? That's gotta suck..

If now, I would just assume that AutoCheck never got the memo. It's rare, but sometimes AC will get something and CF won't and vice-versa. You could always buy a 5 VIN pass from CF for $50, so you can run your car and the Merc. And still have 3 left for other stuff. Much better deal, IMO, than the $40 for 1.

Literal social retard who lives in a cornfield here. Dad just died and I basically had my license to drive him around. A lot of his stuff is being repossessed and I gotta get my own ride. It needs minimal offroad capabilities. This thing is withing walking distance and in my price range. I need a vehicle fast as there are basically emergency tier things around my property that need solved.

What kind of questions do I ask when I call? Do you usually have the seller drive the vehicle to your house? Is it true that offering cash generally allows you to negotiate lower price? I also know nothing about insurance, is it a bad idea to just get minimum coverage?

https://akroncanton.craigslist.org/cto/5273734506.html
>>
Oh so I thought I'd make a thread-relevant post. After titling/registering my truck, and seeing my mileage reporting show on the vehicle history report, It occurred to me just how easy it is to lie about mileage and make it look lower. Then you could roll it back and no one would ever know. Of course, some states have much different reporting practices, I'm sure. Also, I think certain shop work, presumably dealer work mostly, would report it and fuck it up. But if you do your own work....scary stuff.
>>
>>13813311
What?! Not in North Texas? That's gotta be a crime..

>>13813321
Ok, let me think, ummm, land. Houses and land are STILL cheap because Texas is so damn big. For reference, how much would you pay for a 2000sqft house in your town?

And another: Culture. If you didn't know, Texas used to be its own country, and whenever you tell someone you're Texan, they never have to ask where that is.. We have the Alamo, and a common culture.... It's odd seeing a white lady and some old Mexican dude have so much in common. Also, cheap beer and cowboys. That's a good one, I like Cowboys.

>>13813331
Blue Bell might not be the best by taste, but then you realize it's really really cheap and all the sudden nothing beats it.

First off, don't call yourself a retard. By your typing, you're clearly not.
Second, it's a shame about your father. My condolences, anon.

Typical questions are ones like these.

What's the VIN? (mention wanting to run a report, as it may ease their worry about why you want it)
When was the timing belt done? (assuming it doesn't have a chain)
Does the 4WD work properly?
Does it pass inspection?
What big issues will need to be addressed? (out of all the questions, ones like this will be most likely to either get a lie or just limited info)

Basically, anything you think matters.

Rarely will a seller drive it to you. Nearly always, you go to the seller.
Cash tends to be preferred, due to its low risk (checks can be bogus, unless cashier/bank check) and it's convincing seeing lots of money in person.
It's not a bad idea to get minimum insurance, no. There are benefits to getting more of course. If you can afford it, comprehensive is nice since it covers things like animal damage, weather and other natural things. Collision is stupid fucking expensive; don't even consider it.

Taste matters, but so does price. If it's good ice cream for cheap, I can say okay over great ice cream for more.

No record of the damage, though it says it was a possible total loss. Could have been bad, maybe not. Cheap cars total easier, due to low value but still average repair costs.

>>13813485

>>
>>13813515
8-12k WHAT? Bruh I pay 3k...gawd. Yeah, I guess NJ is cool, but what really sold Texas for me is the Southern Hospitality. I went to the east coast, and I was confused. I was like ,"where are the tip jars?" And every one was like, the what? Giving people money is common practice in Texas. Also, when you're at the grocery store, in the east coast they're just silent, like zombies, its scary. I don't wanna a zombie touching all my food. In Texas you might have a conversation about the recent football game, or maybe they'll give you a discount because your hair is nice (yes this happens). The small talk is great. Everyone on the east coast is withdrawn, I love the openness of a Texan. Also, gun laws, gun laws here are Alaska tier. Don't get me wrong, Texas has its fair share of lunatics (go to YouTube and type in Adam Reposa lawyer commercial) but overall is the best state. "Everything's bigger in Texas, and bigger = better"
>>
>>13813580

3K. Sounds amazing. I don't pay property taxes, since I just rent a room but I hope I'm well out of NJ when that day comes.

Tip jars are more common here at smaller businesses. Otherwise you don't really see them. And some places will fill it daily while others are always empty. It's odd.

Yeah too many people seem to be afraid to talk to each other. I can't stand it. I like when someone strikes up a conversation with me, or I try and they accept. It makes whatever you're doing better/go faster. I don't understand why people are so cold here so often.

You're very welcome. I like seeing people trying to better their situation and help themselves. I am more than happy to lend a hand if I can.

There was a typo, and I was able to get 4 different possible matches. This one looked the closest, and it's in Ohio.

If it doesn't appear to be it, either ask the seller for the correct VIN or I can just run some of the other ones.

Hi VINbro! I just purchased a car a few weeks ago (probably would've been useful to have a carfax then but oh well). I don't have the VIN on-hand, but it's registered in NH plate number 3918296.

Thanks so much!

Hey VINbro, how long have you been doing these threads for? Seems like a person would get burned out quick from autists spamming them with VINs.

Thanks for enabling me.
>>
>>13817541

I've been doing them regularly for about 7 months now. From my limited knowledge of them prior, it seems there really wasn't anyone who dedicated time just to this. It was more that those who had happened to buy a subscription or work for a dealer would do them occasionally. So you may be right, about people getting burned out with all the requests. And there are a lot of them. I average between 20 and 25 a day (weighted average/mean).

Well no shit, the Saturn brand was just a dumping ground for GM's shit cars.

Not sure what your budget is but look at Ford Focus years 2003 - 2011. They're a bit boring but hilariously reliable and worst comes to worst, parts are very cheap.

I've also had good luck with Taurus of the same year. If I didn't need an SUV for reasons I would jump on one of those.

Yeah I've felt the same way. A few times I was looking at a truck and it was pretty good overall (I mean, I was running the VIN out of interest, so clearly) but there was something about it I wasn't so sure about. Due to me using AutoCheck, you'll get a good deal of info (especially the bad ones that are of greatest concern) but it probably won't have the service history that Carfax typically has.

Through both occasional asking and offering, anons have contributed a little here and there. It may take a while sometimes (even a whole other subscription period) but I have managed to get my costs covered by those kind anons in the long run.

As for the service itself, AutoCheck has a very reasonably priced service. After taxes, about $48/month for unlimited reports by VIN or plate.

I wish I were as swole as Vin Diesel. Then I might have the power to run Euro and Aussie VINs.

This Ford's showing 1 accident and frame damage. How unfortunate.

C&D letter, or legal trouble in general is a big part (not the only part though) of it. Feel free to poke through the AutoCheck terms of service.

I've not gotten in trouble, but the increasing concern is real and there. My concerns could be partially unfounded/paranoid, but so be it.

Yeah, basically. The potential max cost of penalty is well more than 5x my annual income. I doubt I'd ever see any penalties at all, but sanity's sake beckons. While it's defendably not commercial use, Experian is big and I don't need big guys giving me issues.

Yeah I've thought about that. The only issue there is that I would also need to use a fake name and address. Not that it's such an issue, but I'm not fond of lying about identity. Though it's not entirely out the window of consideration.

Only problem it's that is in Tijuana. Never crossed a car that was still under someone else's name before. the CBP can be kind of weird. Sometimes they'll let cars with expired tags through, other times they'll nitpick you on the carpeting.

This has some kind of warning on lien record or something, is that current or was it just on loan at one point?

4S3BK4356T7302700
>>
>>13833510

Ahh. Not so simple, it would seem. I guess it might still be worth it if the truck is good enough.

If there was ever a lien, it shows that warning. The most recent title record does not show a lien, so it should be clear.

>>13833512

Not at all; glad to.

https://www.diigo.com/item/image/5a4au/ck1p
>>
>>13833618
>Ahh. Not so simple, it would seem.
Just a pain explaining to the CBP is all. Shouldn't be too much of a problem as long as insurance, bill of sale, etc has been properly done.

I still need to cross the car to do an emissions test which is the real stickler. We'll see if the car has any issues once I go see it.

A lot of cheap CA, AZ, TX cars to be had in Tijuana if you are willing to go to the hassle. MX nationals aren't supposed to drive USA plated cars, many do of course, but there's always the danger it'll be confiscated. Most just opt to sell the cars on the cheap if they can't cross back into the USA.

You know your shit. I know not a damn thing about that car market. Good thing I'm not looking to buy from Tijuana, right?

If I weren't stopping this VIN checking, I'd say don't bother. But since I am, if you're going to be checking out more than just a few more (especially if you don't plan on buying, say, this week) then it may be worth it. $48 and you get 30 days of unlimited reports. It's not a bad deal if you plan on checking a lot.

Yeah, this's got an accident on record, as well as a salvage title.

Any way of knowing what those accidents were?
>>
>>13834616

There is one method I have thought of, but no one has mentioned to me if they've tried it.

If an accident has a case# (most do), bring that case number to the local police station where the accident occurred and say you are interested in buying the car, and would like any info on the accident that you're allowed to have. I see no reason essential, non-personal info should be off limits.
>>
>>13834562
>Yeah, this's got an accident on record, as well as a salvage title.

Shocking, did a good job fixing it, might be still worth it if I can lower their price rock bottom.

Lot of cheap Taco's over there last time I checked.
>>
>>13834651
Gotcha. Good idea. Also as it seems like you run a lot of VIN's, how does that report look overall to you? I really want to buy it, just worried about the fact that it was a northern car and has 2 accidents.
>>
>>13834693

Price is the only factor that truly matters. If the condition is reflected in the price, it's always worth it (at least from a price standpoint).

Ah, you remembered what I want. Very cool. Well in case you hadn't heard, I did finally buy one, last Tuesday. Lovin' it, man.

>>13834713

>Ah, you remembered what I want. Very cool. Well in case you hadn't heard, I did finally buy one, last Tuesday. Lovin' it, man.

Ahaha, good man. Hope you like it. Personally I run around with a God tier Hilux when I'm in TJ.

I still don't understand why Mexishits get the Hilux and the American Empire doesn't.
>>
>>13834743

Northern car shouldn't make too much of a difference. If you can get a PPI beforehand or examine it yourself, make sure it has no rust. If it's started to spread anywhere, I can almost guarantee it's not the only spot of rust on the car
>>
>>13834743

Historical reliability isn't all there is. A friend of mine's got a Jag and I don't recall him mentioning constant breakdowns.

Looking at the report, it's not all that bad outside of the accidents. The ownership count is a little high for its age, but nothing absurd. The mileage is no issue, and it has a clean title that has no lien on it.

The accidents are both reported as left side ones, so if you go to look at it, pay extra close attention to that side. Obviously, the whole care should be heavily inspected, as with any used car, but the left side likely has more to show. If you can afford it/are okay with paying for it, taking the car to a mechanic for inspection is not a bad idea. 2 accidents, while potentially not a deal breaker, is concerning.
Also, there are car inspection services that are on-the-spot ones that come to you. Useful if you can't get a quick appointment at a shop or the owner doesn't want you to.

It being in the North can go either way. Sure, there is a greater chance of rust, but if you see no rust (do look hard, though), it's probably held up throughout and therefore its Northerly residence means very little.

>>13834761

I would love to test out a diesel Hilux. I bet that shit so fun. For now, my Taco is doing fantastically for me. Excellent purchase.

I have no idea. Everyone but USA/Canada gets the Hilux. While I do love Tacomas, it sucks that we only get it. At least give a diesel option.

It's not that I'm not looking for a manual, but my opportunity to learn to drive one slipped first when my dad sold his old F-150, and then when he had his stroke and developed aphasia.

Basically, I'd have to self teach to drive it.
>>
>>13835121

Well for what it's worth, here's how I learned. I asked my landlady if I could use her vehicle to learn, and she said sure. We got into the car and she told me the basics (which I already was aware of, but a refresher isn't bad). A bit of trouble getting going at first (and even to this day, I am still a little low on throttle, in fear of burning the clutch too much, but w/e it's getting better) but got it going after maybe 10 minutes. Drove down to the store, and back home. Good drive, since it involved straights, as well as up and down hills. Total of MAYBE 25 minutes driving. That was it. I drove to work that night. It was rough for the first few weeks, with lots of stalls at stop signs and such (people are surprisingly patient with this though) but easier than expected.

What I'm trying to say is just get it and learn. I basically taught myself (and researched more advanced things) and I do just fine now. Though this truck is SO much different from my landlady's vehicle. Bite point, throttle sensitivity, power difference, etc...

I've rambled enough. If the truck is good, don't let manual disuade you Use the internet to your advantage as well.
