Why do people get bothered that people have cars as a hobby?

Car culture is dying. It's to the point where it's regarded cynically as part of the "old way" of doing things. It gets lumped in with 'Murica and muh guns and attempts to compensate for masculinity.

Why would you mention something about cars to your coworkers if they're clearly not interested, though? I don't just randomly interject my interests and hobbies into discussions unless it's relevant.
>>
>>13809954

They are sick of hearing about your shuttle shucking NA Miata POS and you never took the hint about STFU. Maybe just sit and silently observe the conversation instead of broadcasting your power levels 24/7.
>>
>>13809984
It's also hated because car culture really began with baby boomers, and millenials resent baby boomers for ruining the economy and hating millenials for being faggots.

I know, depending on where you live and who you socialize with, guns are way harder to talk about without people assuming bad shit about you.

Also, I don't think car culture is dying, if most of us are millennial fags than I doubt it's going anywhere. I swear, if you let random people's opinions run your life, you might as well just sell yourself into slavery
>>
How would you like it if every time you saw "sally" she talked about that new computerized sewing machine she wants, it's an industrial Juki with Brother part swap-out capability; sews sooooooo fast and has 100 different pre-programmed stitches plus it can be configured for specific voltages for entire world portability/usability and an external motor for those super-quick swapouts...

Protip: talk about cars WITH people, not AT people.
>>
Car culture is dying, more people want self-deiving cars so they can play video games and smoke weed on road trips. Cars with powerful engines, off-road vehicles, engine swaps, etc are now associated with normies as "penis compensation". The same thing is happening to gun culture, hunting, etc.

I want off this ride.
>>
>>13810052
This. Most of my friends dislike cars and only own them because they have to. They do not take care of them, and most of them take some sort of subversive pride in the fact that they don't care about cars.
>>
>>13810052
You have to be a normie to be into this hobby in the first place. Autismbux can't pay for a fucking M3. Plus, if you actually have a job and leave your house, you're a normie by default

Face it anon, you're only as autist as you think you are
>>
>>13810044
I definitely talk about cars AT people, not for long periods, just bits and pieces. If you start simple and get them curious with something they can understand but is a little beyond their understanding, they'll happily ask for an explanation and listen for more.
>>
>>13810067
You can be a high functioning social autist

>minimal interaction at work
>go home and stay home
>>
>>13810080
This. You have to be aware of people's perceptions. Just interject with an interesting tidbit here or there. I do this for a lot of my interests that most people don't share, but only when it's relevant and/or interesting.
>>
>>13809954
>Guy just yells "VROOM VROOM! RACE CARS!" mockingly

Either you are working in a mental institution, or you are a patient there. Considering you are posting here, my guess is on the latter.
No normal adult human being would say that unless they are retarded or treat you like the weird autistic faggot you are.
>>
>>13810023
Gambling just makes you seem like a degenerate and sports is so much of a spectator thing that you're not really involving yourself into something as much as you are attaching yourself to a self assumed identity. Don't get me wrong, I watch sports too, but most guys I know have some interest in cars, whether it's just oggling at a shiny new GTR on the street or rebuilding a transmission.

>compensate for masculinity

It's true though.

It's well known that many acts of male aggression are best understood as responses to anxiety about living up to standards of masculinity and continual pressure to prove oneself.

This is especially problematic in western society because there are no formal initiation rituals into manhood like many tribes do, so men in western society are left to affirm their manhood through activities like beating women, catcalling, projecting accusations homosexuality onto other males, and owning souped-up cars and driving too fast. (aka hooning).

Source: I have a degree in anthropology.
>>
>>13810162
Be content with that then, why get upset over what other think?

You don't commit crimes or fuck people over on a daily basis so what moral authority do they have to judge just for your interests?

And I'm introverted as fuck too but I'd rather not let social anxiety get in the way of living my life
>>
>>13810178
I don't, I mean it's not like that. I just throw the "normies" word around for non-car people. Maybe plebs or something would be better. I'm not really even socially anxious, just don't have a ton of interest in it.

I had hobbies, just none that other people could relate to. I liked doing things with my computer and listening to obscure music during high school. everyone at school was into sports (which I'll probably never have an interest in) and vidya
when I got a job it was easier to find other hobbies. my parents thought vidya would ruin the Tv, but when I got a job I was able to by my own tv and system. and of course, buy my own car.
I'd like to get into guns, but being "that super quiet kid that everyone thought was going shoot up the school one day owning a gun". nah, maybe when I move out of this stupid town.

It was never "cool". Not in conversation anyway. It's cool once people like see your nice project car or something, but outside of that no one thinks it's cool.

It was cool in the late 60's and 70's, but that died with the gas crisis.

People think you're a manchild if you say you're into racing these days. People don't get it. They don't understand how hard racing is. How much money it makes / how much money is put into it. How actually physically and mentally demanding it is. How scary it is to go that fast even with safety shit. They think of it like a toy hobby.

They think you just sit in it and step on the gas. Literally no concept of it at all. It might as well be WWF to them. "How hard could it be?? hurr"
