Yes, it's pretty much a per-race type of maintenance. Every time I get home I have to:
>do lots of cleaning and make it pretty
>clean carb
>replace transmission oil
>drain radiator water if I didn't use water wetter
>change gear ratio for next track
>mount and balance new tires
Plus a new piston every now and then and sometimes working on things that I broke. If I wasn't racing I could just drain the fluids and WD40 all the things that might rust and let it sit.

It's actually more important on /o/ than most other boards. Makes it much easier to identify who owns what car, and who knows (or doesn't know) what they're talking about when offering advice. Cars are bigger stakes than being recognized for your waifu on /a/ or something. And /o/ is a slower board as well, so there's more of a community element.
I won't deny some people abuse the feature, but it's definitely an important part of how /o/ works.
