What kind of motorcycle should I get if I want to convert it to an electric motorcycle?
Something that's cheap and affordable in case i fuck up and easy to mod

Since it's a conversion I don't think CC matters, but something light that I would be able to get up to speed in so I can travel across the state.

Good luck doing that with an electric bike. I hope it has enough torque to pull a trailer full of batteries.

Gents,
Been watching the classifieds and craigslist in my area to see what comes up for my first motorcycle. I'd like to be able to drive on I-10 and highways with it but would also like to take it on the gravel/dirt/caliche roads in my area.

So far it seems ninja 250's come up most often while dualsports appear kinda rarely.

How badly would it affect a ninja on the interstate if it had dual-sport tires? Would removing the bottom fairing and installing a skid plate be worthwhile mods for what I'm after?

theres tons of them at the track now, base model and M alike. one of them highsided sunday. they're pretty neat. i watch out for R1s, EBRs, S1kRRs, and RSV4s as fast cornering literbikes. nearly everyone in the fast group is on a liter, but those are the ones that stand out for having 600-like corner entry speed and massive exit (helped by traction control half the time).
>>
>>13695832
one of my friends wants the new R1 and that bike has been growing on me too. never rode a bike with a cross plane crank before. the older generation of R1s didn't interest me cause the frames had too much flex in them

i helped a friend with his ninja 250 today. i picked up this bike with him last month for just over 1000. cant remember what year it is, but its the newer style. has been down on both sides, but everything works well, aside from turn signals, which the fucktard removed.
i want this bike so fucking bad. he's an asshole for getting his first bike at just over $1000 and it's newish, and riding it home.
the last bike i had was about years ago, maybe more, and i had to get rid of it for some stupid reasons. fuck.

today i fixed a small oil leak he had, cleaned all the nasty oil and road shit from all around the chain area, fixed his throttle tension, fixed his choke, which was frozen in place, and a few little odd bits and pieces around the bike.
it felt good to help out a new rider, and i told him that when he is ready for a different bike, he had better sell me his, and take into consideration the help i have been giving him, lol.

damnit i want to ride so bad.

If you want it to be controlled by your ignition key, you have to splice it or add another connector in there with a splice if you don't want to cut your wiring harness.

Or you could put a separate switch on it, but then you might forget about it and defeat the purpose.

I don't think those USB adapters draw any power at all unless they have a load (device plugged in) and draw very little even while charging your device. Unless you leave your phone plugged in for hours it's not going to drain your battery ded.

That is the solution to the original question.

While controlling it with the ignition switch doesn't necessarily make it only turn on when the engine is on, it has pretty much the same effect of making sure he doesn't accidentally kill his battery with it.

Okay guise, it's time for the all important question:
Wat bike is gewd
>no more than 4.6 l/100km staying around 110km/h

>good luggage capability

I don't have one, so I didn't say definitively. However, I think my parent's otter box had a little gap in the plastic that you could loop a small string through. Nothing big enough to put a lanyard hook or something like that through.

The sky is the limit and space is the place.
Buy whatever you want. Supersports aren't a good idea as a first bike though.
>>
>>13695575
No cruisers or scramblers and probably not too many older bikes. Maybe something with an originally 250cc engine or less.
>>
>>13696769
Depends on their bike.
For a cruiser 1200cc is respectable
For a sport 1200cc us absolute mad man

Is a 500cc or 650cc bike too big for a first bike?

because you'll actually wind up with an electric vehicle instead of a tard half project that sits in your moms garage for five years
>>
>>13696769
Depends.

I'd aim at around ~650cc and 70-ish HP (so no 600cc sportbikes, ala R6, GSXR600 etc) and if you want a cruiser up to around ~1000cc.

Read the sticky, get educated.

I like my Buell. It's definitely a manly man's bike tho.

Only complaint is that while it is really fast under 90 mph with gobs of torque, it is not as fast as a 600 in the triple digits and really dies out fast around 135 or so.

I only honk at retards who cross double yellows.

They cross double yellows illegally to get one pole position closer, but are still stuck in traffic. They usually only have one passenger, when carpool requires to, and are generally driving like jackasses and our moments away from being in a car crash.
