Hey guys. Deployed schmuck here. Coming home soon, and I want to buy something cheap and reliable. I've always heard great things about Civics. I want to keep it under $3500 (why $3500? Because I forgot to put money towards this sooner and that's what I've got saved). So with a price cap like that I'm obviously looking at something 15-20 years old or with very high mileage. I've never bought something like this before.

Which is worse old age or miles? Should I have a mechanic check it out first? Can I really get a good car that cheap?

You could get 3.5 corollas

Corollas are pretty shit besides the older models, which suffer from the Takumi market ups.

Civic is love, civic is life.
Always look for EX model trims unless you like having people in your car.

What?

EX or whatever is the most sporty trim depending on your trim. For mine, it was the EX.

Civics aren't born fast, but they're still fun to drive especially older gens.

In my area you can get a very clean car for that much cash. I got my 93 Civic for 900 bucks and my modded 94 Civic hatch for 1300. Neither old age or miles can be bad. Just check the physical condition of the car and run a VIN check in the VIN thread. If possible get any maintenance history from the owner. Civics are dirt cheap most of the time and the parts are easy to come by. Not much can go wrong with them.

I also got a 94 Corolla with 54k miles for 1500. Great deals to be had if you're lucky enough.

What is an Si?

Anyways OP, I would look at 2001-2005 Civics. No rice tax, just as good as the older models. Just avoid the automatics.

Pic is a 2002-2005 Civic Si

I know what the EX is. What does it have to do with having people in your car?

$3500 is a pretty good budget for a 15 to 25 year old Civic. It should get you a VERY clean EG or an EK in somewhat decent shape. If you don't know what to look for, definitely have a mechanic check it out and make sure they check compression and leakdown for you. Only worry about miles and age to give yourself leverage in negotiating the price. The things that really matter on a 15 to 20 year old Honda are maintenance and the quality of any major rebuilds or swaps that have been done. Good luck.

What the fuck are you smoking? No it isn't. That's with rice tax.
A 15-25 year old Civic shouldn't cost more than 2 grand at most.

You won't find a very clean EG for $2000 and an EK in that price range is usually on its last legs. Don't speak of what you don't know little boy.
