my family has owned a couple.
The base model is pretty decent.
The supercharged s is pretty unreliable.
The new ones have some trans issues.
Mini also specs oil changes at 10k to ensure the car breaks after lease.
So you have find one that is taken car of. Then they are nice little machines.

They are actually famous for unreliability. The only car company more unreliable than Mini is Fiat, though VW is pretty close as well.
