Imagine if a company were to make some awesome feature-length automotive documentaries, focusing on enthusiasts and automotive adventures, and with great cinematography and soundtracks.

Who here would be willing to go see such a thing at a local theater during a national tour, or pay $5 or whatever to watch it on iTunes?

If anybody here is familiar with the ski, snowboard, skate, etc films that come out every year, imagine that but with cool cars.

There are already some of those. That Baja 1000 documentary comes to mind. The automotive world changes so often that a single documentary gets out dated fairly quick, getting car manufacturers involved is more difficult than asking a ski or skate company, auto world is extremely expensive as is just a normie car life is thousands out the door.

sounds like a neat idea but the world of auto enthusiasts is pretty splintered
who would they follow?
drag racers? mature/street racers etc?
drifters?
import tuner crowd?
domestic/muscle crowd?
off road crowd?
each group has a good size following but i wouldn't imagine much over lap between some of them
if they try to be broad and say give each segment 15-20 min then they wouldn't be able to get real in depth and appeal to people interested in that particular niche

I was thinking they'd vary, but mostly revolve around forms of racing that involve cornering and dramatic scenery.

I'd do it as several 30-min-ish segments, and some ideas I had included sending some US pro drifters to the Japanese touge, following a grassroots Pike's Peak or Thunderhill team, etc.

>feature length, high budget documentary about the car culture on /o/
>segment dedicated to the rampant posting of gay porn, furries, and GT-R vs Corvette threads
>majority of interviewees are just bench racers that don't even own a car

>US pro drifters to the Japanese touge
great if you like drift or are a weeb but otherwise...

the others sound like they'd be interesting but is 30 min really enough time to get in depth?
take the Pikes Peak would would be cool but showing 1 run up the hill would eat at least 1/3 of the 30 min time slot since right now the record holders and winners are around 10 min
so 20 min of meeting the driver and team, building the car and testing it/getting it ready then 1 run and its over
would be cool to see a high quality video with both in car and outside shots and stuff though

Top Gear is like the closest thing you're talking about and it needed BBC level of funding to be interesting to a sizable crowd.

Why not a separate DVD for each off shoot

>business 101

Do at least 1-2 hours on each of them. Lots of documentaries that cover broad topics do that.

I'd rather go to the Sanic forums for my daily dose of autism.
