Hey /o/ i'm getting my first car in 2 months i should have at least 8k saved up, i was thinking of getting a 2000-2005 ford mustang. If possible getting the 2005 would be the dream but i don't think anyone will sell a v8 instead of the v6 for 8 grand. I was also thinking of buying an older bmw 3 series and hooning it out. what are your opinions
>>
>>12012151
Don't get the v6 stang. You'll be laughed at and you'll regret not having the v8 once you outgrow the power of the v6. Bmw is your choice, but I'd get a mustang gt
>>
Your parents won't lend you an extra grand or two? I too would strive for the v8 and as you see they hold their value. Don't think it happens that often these days but if you check one out and the owner sees the excitement from a first time buyer they might cut you a deal.
>>
>>12012151
both cars are crap
>>
>>12012151
8k could get you an earlier SN95 Cobra
>>
New Edge (99-04) should be easy to pick up for 8k or even less. I've seen many 03 GTs with decent mileage and even manual for 7k.

Friend of a friend got an 05 GT for only 9k, but it had 135k on it and first year build so I'm sure it's got some gremlins. Still, I'd go new edge unless you're set on the new body style of 05+, which IMO is awkward until 08+ when it got new bits and pieces and a bump in power.

If you're going for a v6, fucking stop. Go get something that was made for a v6 as the top trim. The 3.8 essex was used forever until 05(?) when the 4.0 v6 came out and is still slow and sounds terrible. Reliability wise, the 3.8 is decent bar headgaskets, but it's only good use was in the 89-95 Thunderbird Supercoupes with the eaton m90
>>
>>12012151
8grand will get you a clean new edge GT if you search hard enough

unless you are buying a brand new mustang, never get a v6, they are almost universally terrible

yes, because disliking a "sports car" with the more barebones options and shittiest engine option makes us the 16 year olds. They are the ones that buy those. Point being if you want a Mustang, why get the v6 when you can buy a car built around one and enjoy it more? i've driven my friend's old ass 00 v6 mustang, and even with the 5 speed I enjoyed my shitty auto 5.0 thunderbird far more. and so did he, which is why he dropped it and got an 02 maxima with the 3.5 which is a proper v6 car.

>>12012334
A Mach 1 that's not 10k? Where the fuck can I find this? Non-Termi Cobras are generally cheaper. Bullitts being up there with the termis from my experience.

although you own a Cobra and probably follow the community closer than I do. I just own...this. Atleast it's a v8 fatstang, riight?
>>
>>12012378
Shit son, I actually deliver to dealerships. And the highest priced one I saw was $14k with 75k mileage and it was a complete ripoff as everything on the lot was overpriced. You can get them for $7k-$9k all day long. Just look them up. And it's rare to find a Mach 1 that has been raped. The original owners tend to take as good care of them as Cobra owners.

Also, when some asshat made an illegal turn in an intersection and totaled my Monte Carlo SS, I was looking for a new car and almost bought an 03 Mach 1 with 98k mi for $7.7k. But, since I already had my Terminator, I decided to go with my Lincoln LS V8 with 74k mi for $5.5k.
>>
>>12012446
lol @ last

Damn those are cheap, here in the panhandle of Florida they go for $12k just for a Mach 1 with less than 100k. Of course here a lot of old people just garage these cars and then throw them up for sale thinking that since there is no rust and it's low mileage they can get $15k+ for a 10+ year old Mustang that probably has rotting rubber everywhere from not being driven. Showroom worthy? Yeah, after replacing every bushing and hoses/lines to get it to a show.
>>
>>12012446
>140,000 miles
You don't consider that beat to shit? Even if you take good care of it that is pretty beat.
>>
>>12012482
You could probably find one with less than 70k mi for around $12k-$15k. They are really nice cars, and for a first car they are amazing to work on. However, be aware that if anyone gets a stock Mach 1, the stock 2011-2014 V6 Mustangs run a quarter mile the same as you. It's like a shit to the nuts.
>>
>>12012461
Shame the v8 never came with the manual option the v6 did. I've driven the 3.9, and wow was it fun. I've also driven a 03 Thunderbird (same engine, 3.9 v8) and it was faster than the LS but I'm assuming weight or aero came into play there. Man those T-birds are rare, they still go for 10k-15k here. I love them despite the grandma stigma attached and will one day get one if I ever get rich and mod the shit out of it. Dos port hole windows

The v6 LS manual is rare as fuck and people price them so. I'd still take the v8 though, great purchase fellow Lincoln and Ford owner. (Had a 94 Mark VIII and own that Thunderturd up there, a mustang with IRS pretty much)
>>
>>12012502
I bet it's been taken good care of. But, yeah I didn't notice the mileage. But, the 4v Mustangs are pretty stout. 200k mi would be the starting point for a rebuild if it's heavily modded. Otherwise, just keep maintenance up.

Also, if you like the Lincoln LS, take a look at the pic. That is I'm fact a LS with a turboed GT500 engine in it.

If I get another Ford, as much as I'd like a Mach 1/Cobra or even a GT, I can't afford one. I've got my heart set on a Thunderbird SC, preferably 94-95 with a 5spd and the new body style of 94-95s. I'd like another Mark VIII, the fat Cobra as i like to see it as, but I want a 5 speed as my 00 Camry is just too anemic to row gears through enjoyably. I've worked on my friend's 03 GT, and since it's the same layout of the Mark VIII (despite being the DOHC instead of his SOHC) it was a breeze to work on.

Not as easy as my Thunderbird though. 5.0s are a breeze to do anything on, except for the fucking fuel pump INSIDE the tank and the driveshaft routed under exhaust so you have to take all 3 apart just to drop the 18gallon tank.

pic is my alt DD when I want more than 14mpg and feel like shifting. I know, shitty cars compared to yours, but I'm happy just to have anything since my 260k Tbird is still going strong.

Dunno why everyone rags on you so hard, there are way worse trips out there. Sure you're opinionated to hell, but meh. I just lurk so watching is more fun to me than throwing my shitboxes around all the time. Except today.

Since I've typed the same fucking thing in a hundred other threads I'll keep it short.

1. Buy a cheap shitbox for your first car to learn on. You ARE going to wreck it and you shouldn't have anything of reasonable horsepower or value when starting out. I strongly recommend learning to drive manual, too.
2. Save up for the GT, you don't want "Man I should have bought a GT" buzzing around in the back of your head every time you drive your anemic shitbox.

Me too. Grew up with them, had a 91 5.0 go to 350,000 before selling it in 05 after getting this in 04 for $350 bucks and still see it around. (identical crystal blue frost color)

Appreciate the comment. I try to take care of it, the interior is immaculate, the paint is holding up great for being 23 years old, and still rumbles like an asshole with my gutted cats and no mufflers to enjoy what life it has left with gas in the cabin and rumbles to show off my hot 210/275 powah.

Hey, those two are still nice cars to have. And most br/o/s don't even have two cars, so props to you. And sad to say, some don't even have one car. I wish them luck in finding what they want though. Anyhow, enjoy your cars br/o/ and don't let anyone out you down about them. Most faggots here can't afford two cars. Most faggots here can't drive a manual. So, more power to you on both regards. And I hope your next car ends up being exactly what you want. If you want a Cobra, go for it. It might take the right bank to approve a loan or even saving up for two years, but hey. It's worth it to get a car you absolutely love.

driven my friends GT so i know how to deal with a hard clutch, right now that camry has a soft ass clutch but im much better with a manual than before. i started driving at 12 and for 6 months drove uhauls from store to store, 14f trucks all the way up to 26f with 12x16 trailers attached, and looking to get into driving for a living so i promise i wouldnt ruin your clutch lol

anyways nice talking to ya man

>>12012656
i get compliments on the Tbird more than youd think for some odd reason. straight piped 5.0s sound great, and no emission checks in florida allows me to ruin the environment for my enjoyment of rumbling everywhere. i know, poor mans exhaust, but poor mans car. camry stays stock, not a ricer lol

thanks for that though. im far away from anything that great though, very poor and dealing with cancer in the family is taking a toll on focusing on cars sadly.

and yea, the panhandle of florida is good for nothing but Pensacola and Johnsons beach. Absolutely beautiful white beaches and surprisingly not a lot of fatties hang around there. stay down south of florida as this is a poor mans city.

Sure, but still doesn't make your point moot. The 5g prelude is at least half if not a full second slower to 60 than the stang. It also handles worse due to being heavier and front wheel drive.
I'm not joking. 5g prelude was my biggest regret. I'd own a 3rd gen tho.

The 3 Series will be a much nicer car, overall, though more expensive in the long run. That's not to say that a Mustang GT isn't hoonable. Whatever you end up buying, DO NOT buy a V6 Mustang of that era. The only acceptable V6 Mustangs are 09 and up.

For 8k$ you can get a very nice non-ZHP package E36(1992-99)/E46(1999-05) that doesn't need anything and should serve you trouble free for at least 30-35k miles. The key here is to get one that's been maintained well. If you get a neglected one, you will hate your life. WIth BMWs, if you're not car savvy/don't know what to look for, you'll want to get a pre-purchase inspection. The reason for that is a BMW that looks good inside/outside isn't necessarily sound mechanically. People want to drive their hella fresh BMWs but don't want to pay for maintenance so they just keep up the cosmetic appearance.

Also, don't look for the newest BMW within your price range. Look for the nicest condition E36/E46 8k will buy you. A BMW with 140k miles but ALL service records is better than a BMW with 80k miles but no service history.

Hi there. What's your name? I am CobraAnon. How are you doing? I'm doing good. What do you drive? I drive a Lincoln LS V8 and a Cobra Terminator. I drive a T56 whenever I have time to myself. And not the shitty cost efficient poorman's T56 that was in the F-bodies. The Terminator's T56 is actually race built by Tremec akin to the Viper's T56. The only difference is a weaker input shaft. Have you ever driven a T56? In anything? Would you actually know how they feel? They are smooth as fuck. Best manual I've ever driven. I hope that one day you'll get the chance to drive a car with a well made T56. Nice talking to you. Hope you one day get your dream car, br/o/.

Not the SN95s? Especially in stick mode as well. You have it backwards. They have more people getting tickets on the V8 models owned by military brats . A cheap SN95 5 speed will go around the market place for 2k while the V8 trims would go for an upwards price of 8k

I'm older than 25. Even if I don't look it. I have State Farm. And when I was younger than 25, my insurance was still around $90 for full coverage on a sports car / V8 coupe. Just keep your driving record good and baby the hell out of your car. Also, know what all you get discounts for. Like driving a car less than 12k a year. Or living relatively close to your work. Shit like that. Just look into your plan and see what you can benefit from.

Also, why did my captcha tell me "I love you"?

Heat exchanger. The intercooler is on top if the motor for the SVT boosted cars. I haven't been on my parents' insurance since I was 18. Like I said, just look into your plan and see what can save you money
>>
>>12016548
Yes, I know about these plans and how insurance work but something like a Sn95 Cobra with full coverage? Yeah, that's some real bullshit. No magical way of forcing lower costs for males at this age
>>
>>12016548
Bruh, I don't know what the fuck kind of mystic magic voodoo you used to get low rates like that but I don't believe it. I am 30 years old, I have a solid 16 years of good driving, no accidents, no tickets. I bought an STI and the lowest I could get without piggybacking on my parents plan was 200/mo or 1200 every 6 months. I was required to get full coverage + gap insurance and my deduc was 500.

On my parents plan, I am paying 80/mo. There is absolutely no reason for me to go solo on a plan when the disparity is that much. No amount of pride is going to make me pay an extra 120/mo just to be independent. Insurance companies hate my car. Maybe they classify your Cobra as something different, I don't know. My car is classified as an assault vehicle.

>Cobra as something different

It's not, the coverage costs are identical to the STI and this voodoo magic prices are not possible

Enjoy spending $1,500/year on maintenance shit once the car hits 200k miles+
>>
OP, i understand your new car hype, but I think a sensible newer accord or civic would be the best option, and you can keep like $2,000 in your savings account for future emergencies.

thats not even expensive by poorfag standards

Oh, I get what you're saying br/o/. Perhaps it's just location. Your area vs mine. But, mine is boosted from factory. So, I'm in the same boat as you car class wise. I think it might be the fact that I have a daily driver and the Cobra as a weekend driver. The fact that I drive it less than 5k a year (on paper anyhow). But, either way it'll come down to your plan's benefits vs my plan's benefits.
>>
since this is your first car it is fair to assume you are on a budget, if yuo live in NA then it will be best to get the mustang because of part availability, also you know you want the v8 you will likely regret getting the v6, i have a 99 gt convertible and it is the best vehicle i have ever owned

KA24 Turbo'd and with coilerovers
Never raced or drifted
Engine needs some work

$6,000 NO LOW-BALLERS

I KNOW WHAT I GOT.

I'd buy a New Edge 3.8L for 3k -4k and get 35 mpg highway, or 5k 7k on a very well kept 4.6L, PI or DOHC.

As long as anyone takes great care of the car and keeps regular, meticulous, maintenance of their car then it will be a great, reliable car. Doesn't matter how old the car is and it doesn't matter how many miles are on it. A car is the sum of it's parts. Nothing more. If you put love and care into it's upkeep, then it will always be a perfect car. Even the weakest parts of a car from the manufacturer can be replaced.

Just like this br/o/ with his GT Conv. If it's taken care of and shown love, it will continue to be a fantastic car. And I hope it continues to be a joy in your life br/o/. I know that I love the hell out of my new edge vert.

And as always, live your car and have fun.

I'd recommend getting a shitcar for the first since chances are you'll wreck it
>>

THIS
Also insurance.

My recommendation: Corolla. Get something cool later.

Your first car should be cheap, practical and above all else easy to drive. You're going to crash it. You're going to deal with heavy traffic (good visibility is a godsend). You're also going to deal with insurance costs.

A Mustang is horrible for all of those things. It's great once you have had a few years experience but a lousy first car. It's like learning how to shoot on an expensive .308 battle rifle instead of a .22, you can but it's less than ideal.
>>
>>12019871
I never crashed my first car. Why does everyone say this? I get it if you crashed your shit and mommy always told you how much of a special snowflake you were and you can't possibly do anything wrong.
>>
>>12019894
It's because you're statistically far more likely to have an accident when you're inexperienced. I thought I was out of the woods after 2 years when I got careless and rear ended an Indian guy In an Infiniti. Not much damage but I was glad it happened to a hooptie.

>literally every car
>>
>>12019933
as suspected. You crashed and mommy said you were the best thing in the world. You believed her until you rear ended someone.
>>
>>12019933

I crashed my first car but it wasn't my fault. There was an accident alittle bit before on the corner and then it started to rain.

I went to brake when getting in the turn lane, and hit oil and water. Slide into the next lane, luckily there was cars at the turn light there, so I scrapped across a truck and pulled off to the side.

Luckily the lady didn't call the insurance companies because her son had scrapped the truck up in an accident so it was already bad.

Did get a failure to maitain lane ticket

This is all just opinions and speculations. Some people wreck their first car. Some people don't. However, I do believe, even if your first car is a high hp/tq V8, if you absolutely love the car and absolutely don't want anything to happen to it, then you'd be more likely to not have a collision due to being overly cautious about every little thing.

Alright, br/o/. I just shot a couple if vids on my phone. When I get home, I'll upload them for you.

Yeah, it chirps when it's cold. When it warms up, it stops chirping. But, I checked the pulley and it's perfectly stable. When it warms up I'll end up taking it off and seeing what's causing the noise. Until then, I won't be driving it enough to worry about it.
