In the USA, if a party accepted money from Russia, it would be shocking : the arch-enemy, the cold war, the spies...
In France, Russia is just a country among others. Often an ally (when Washington doesn't slap our fingers, like when we had to cancel the selling of military frigates we had already made). In 1917, France was Russia's biggest creditor.
Nowadays, Russia supports nationalism, while the USA represents no-border internationalism.
This is why Russia supports the FN.
