when will this meme end?
When SRAM can manufacture a front derailleur worth a damn.
Seriously though I hoped shit would stagnate after 11 speed.
2x8 compact crankset wide range cassette master race
Please stop.
>>974962
2x7 deep dish exploding knees race
>tfw your cassette is almost a 29er
And still less range than a 2x.
>>976511
12 speed gives more range than plenty of 2x drivetrains and is lighter than them.
Why can't we just change the Cassette spacing standard so we can finally get 14 speed cassettes. IMO that would be the sweetspot.
Because FUCK front derailleurs. I fucking hate them. They will never be smooth, they will always be a pain/rub/chain will come off.
Bah. 6x casette and normal 1/2" (or 3/8, but those are really the same) chain, that's where's the sweet spot's at.

I thought the real answer to gears was DI2, not 1X
1X kills the advantages of DI2
DI2 kills the advantages of 1X
But in reality what we need is a derailleur-light gearbox somewhere in the low middle of the bike.
>>976589
Look up Pinion gearboxes. I think they go up to something like 16 speeds now with a ton of range.

>1X kills the advantages of DI2

1x simplifies your drivetrain
Di2 lets idiots operate a "complicated" drivetrain
Both make cycling more fun in a lazy sorta way imho so whatever
Electronic shifting 1x will happen anyways, because "more responsive than sluggish primitive, pathetic cable pull" or something stupid like that

They are actually at 18 gears. But there are also 9 and 12 gear versions available.
The Pinion gearbox is engineered and build in germany and IMO the best solution for everything except Roadbikes.
The biggest con of it is, that you need a special frame, to mount it in
>>976725
How does the crank effect what happens to the rear wheel at all?
>>976755
If you can put the gearing in the bottom bracket (or just use a 1x setup), that reduces the width and spacing necessary for larger chainrings, which in turn allows the bike to be designed with shorter chainstays and/or clearance for wider tires.
>>976577
The freehub width doesn't need to get any wider. Larger cogs can be cantilevered over the spokes.
>>974931
somebody needs to make a real wheel cover that looks like cogs, all the way out to the rim
>year 2025
>rear wheels now replaced by sram cassette
>rear hub spacing increased to 24 inches
>>978331
I'm okay with this as long as they figure out a way of dealing with the chainline issues better than, "just take epo to make up for the drivetrain losses and buy a drivetrain twice per season."
>>978331
>rear wheels now replaced by sram cassette
NICE
