Didn't see one anywhere so I'm starting another one, hope I didn't miss it in the catalog

Anyways, Post Your Bike Thread! Post em, roast em, rate em, and hate em

Just finished the last of many swaps on this one yesterday, new 175 mm crank arms (up from 170 mm) and 53t chainring (up from 48t)

Getting new pedals soon. I don't have much faith in Crank Brothers anymore.

Also thinking about upgrading to campy brakes and maybe adding fenders. lol, Also ordered the Catch Up and Must go Hard water bottles so I have to pick up a new cage.

I see more "gently used" used crank bros pedals on the market than any other type.

Always took that for a bad sign.

>>

Agree to disagree. But hey, that's why they make so many different types of bikes.
>>
>>965914

Lol.
You are going to sell that thing SO FAST after your first winter ride.
>>
>>965915
>>
>>965917
Why are you so sure?
>>
>>965919

Because it takes a certain attitude to enjoy riding a fat-tire bike in winter. You're aready having doubts in picture perfect weather. When you go for your first ride in snow, you're going to look back on these sunny days with fond nostalgia.
It's fucking brutal, dude. Your visions of floating over pow in a winter wonderland are pure delusion.

You tried something new and found out it wasn't for you. Nothing wrong with that.
>>
>>965922
I'm not saying you're wrong, but it's still gotta be better than the CyclePro, which is what i've been riding the last several winters.

Much better with the rigid fork, interesting bike to look at. You ever going to upgrade to discs? Also is that one of those cable pull adapters by the derailer, the yellow thing? If so what's so special about that derailer and shifter that you couldn't just use a matching set? You should look at getting a straight seatpost too.

Don't have a photo with the shorter stem yet.

And I'm not sure what the yellow thing is, honestly, it was on there when I got the bike so I never really paid much attention to it
>>

Is that an MTB frame?
>>
>>965967
>Derby Cycles owned the label Cyclepro which was used for mail order and department store sales in the U.S.. This brand was used to sell their "illegitimate" Nishiki bikes in countries where they did not have access to the brand name Nishiki.. Cyclepro were imported to Sweden from 1989 by Hallman in Uppsala forming Cyclepro Scandinavia. Later Hallman completely took over the development of Cyclepro and did all the models for the Swedish market entirely in-house. The brand was sold in 2003 to a swedish retailer only to disappear a year or so later. The range varied little over the yerars. In 1995 three racing models were sold: Olympia, Optima, and Spectrum. The following year saw the introduction of the Octagon a Swedish developed model with an unconventioal frame. The racing and sprorts-racing programme featured up to five models but the bulk of the salses consisted of mountain bikes and the "city"-ranges. The Stony Point was Sweden's best-selling MTB in the 90s.

I was thinking of the JTek Shiftmate. Looks like it's actually an Avid Rollamajig, it allows you to make the cable loop going to the rear derailer smaller without having a sharp bend.

Do you have other bikes?

Nothing Fancy, but a hell of a lot of fun to ride fast >~_~>
>>
>>966026
Oh well then yeah I guess that must be what it is then, I always wondered what it's purpose was. I've just kept the original shifter/brake levers on there since I've never had a problem with them. I wouldn't know the original owners motivations for putting anything that he did on there. He was my neighbor and he had it custom built and he just so happened to be looking to get rid of it when I was looking for a new bike, so he gave it to me. I wish I had a picture of when I first got it, at this point the only thing that hasn't been changed is the frame and the seat

This is really the only bike worth posting. Other than that I have a road bike that needs a group set and a mountain bike that I kind of just threw together with spare parts I had lying around. I don't have pictures of either of them though because I just got a new phone

Araya Rex Criterium

Apparently made by the same folks who made other obscure brands like Campania and Vista for export to the USA during the bike boom - there's not a lot of information out there.

If you grip the crank and the chainstay hard together, does it replicate the sound? If not, it's probably not the bb. 'bb' noises can be deceptive as fuck and more often than not they're the bars or the saddle creaking.

>>
>>966284

Frame size is 54cm and I'm 5'11". It is probably a size small for me, but it is comfortable so whatever. Ive put about 5000mi/year on this for the last 3 years.

I have been thinking about dropping the bars a bit...

Good point on the dork disk. Kinda forgot it was there. I have serviced that drivetrain a bunch but riding shit roads it gets gross again quick.

I picked this up used and it had not seen a lot of milage prior to me which is why the drivetrain is still in great shape.
>>
>>966289

If it's comfortable, don't fuck with your stack height.

Bikes of that era weren't designed for our retarded post-millenial stem-slamming competition. The old hood shape is uncomfortable if you put much weight on your hands/wrists.
>>
>>966243

>>
>>966325
Well I'm in the process of building a road bike so I'm not worried about putting drops on this one, it's my do-everything commuter so I just keep it simple. Besides, if I got drop bars is have to rework the shifter and brake and a bunch of other stuff I don't want to pay for. For all intents and purposes this bike is "done"

>>966338
I get this reaction every time but I really don't have any comfort issues, even on longer rides.

Manlet. You should have paid for a bike fit. Honestly dude....
>>
>>965878
Do you know what aluminum welds are supposed to look like?

Like a stack of dimes gently laid out.

When you tighten weld you hold the torch until the metal turns red hot under thewelding hood. And you gently dip the leading edge of some filler rod into it then move forward and do it again and you're supposed to do it so the centerline over laps the edge of the last weld pool

So now you know how to weld, take a look at that slop ass mass production giant frame from Taiwan and telle you have a good bike....

I'm slowly buying ultegra/cx70 parts for this Felt. Once I have everything, I'm going to move the 105 to my back up CX frameset which is sitting stripped down in my hallway at the moment. Been finding great deals on 6700 that I can't pass up.

Already changed the saddle, flipped the stem, removed the rim decals.

105 and SPD and not a ridiculously aggressive posture.

Probably a good place to start in road bikes.

The F75x comes with a BB30 bottom bracket, wheel clearance and cantilever brakes and a slightly different geometry for CX.

I can't wait to swap the cranks for Shimano and use a BB30 to 24mm conversion though. I want to pick up the road F75 next summer though. That's a nice looking bike you have there.

Bought this one about a month ago. Used. Added some Aerobars because I love speed (even if I'm not as fast as the pro riders). I really love to ride it every day.

Next I wanna upgrade are some nice Zipp 303 wheels or something like that.

Did I do bad with this boy or is it ok enough to ride some miles?

I also love cleaning it every day... I love shiny things... especially shiny gears

As the other anon said, if you are riding every day then you are doing good.

As Sieg our resident shitposter suggested, the aerobars raise certain questions. If the aerobars even remotely fit, the rest of the bike does not. At all. But if there's no pain, don't worry about it.

As to the rest, that particular saddle is the worst ass hatchet I've ever had the misfortune to use. I don't remember exactly where I got it, but it was that exact shape with those exact fucking stripes on that silver trim. I would recommend you ditch that for a Romin, Toupe, Fizik Ariane, Selle Flite, or some other /n/ approved saddle.

While you're at it, you might consider investing in water bottles that don't undermine your imagined "gottagofast aerobars bruh" image.

Fizik microtex bartape would likewise improve aesthetics.

Contrary to popular advice in places that aren't /n/, I don't feel a wheel upgrade would meaningfully benefit you. If you just want to do it because you like cool wheels, Flo Cycling would be a good option for you. They have some trifag cred to go with your aerobars.

This bike is a dream to ride, honestly. On the road, and off.
A year or so ago the chainstay broke off from the dropout, and I recently made a temporary fix with a handful of hose clamps done on real tight, just until I can get somebody to weld it back.
But I've been riding just as hard, or harder than I used to on it, and it's holding on perfectly well.

If i wouldn't ride it every day what would I have done wrong? Too expensive to ride it just 3 times a year or is it cheap enough to ride it all day long till it breaks?

>>966854
What do you mean by "wrong geo"? And... what about the tier base bars? What do you mean by that? that the drops are to deep?

>>966870
Same here. Don't understand why everyday riding makes a difference.

Why should the rest be not fitting at all if the aerobars fit?

Yea the saddle isnt the best one but i've never ridden on a comfy one before so it thought there wont exist any comfortable road bike saddle. Would love if you could recommend me some nice models. Or is there a thread about saddles on /n/?

Yea the glassbottle is heavy compared to some plastic ones but I really hate plastics and dont want to let plastic in my body you know. I know the Bottle still has a plastic closure ... but as less plastic as possible... but... if i want a lot more aero and weight loss I will definitely look into that.

I'll change the bar tape soon anyway.Maybe another color ... maybe not... but will take a look at the fizik microtex. I always like improving aesthetics.

Yea these new carbon wheels out there all look very very nice. So aethetics comes in to play over here too... but they are very expensive so that would be an upgrade more in future.

But arent those wheels significantly better? like in acceleration and weight and something like that? Doesnt that matter that much?

I'm not long into cycling but i've read for example stuff about early synergy rims... Couldnt Flo Cycling be a anufacturer like spinergy? New... no tests to their rim.... death rims.. etc... or do you think its safe? and why?

Clip on aero bars like that are inherently dorky, but if you like riding on them who cares?

Is that a suspension seat post?

Don't spend tons of money on fancy race wheels, especially just for aesthetic reasons.

You asked if you did bad with the bike so Anons. responded that if you are riding the bike regularly and enjoying it then clearly you did good. Really the best metric for whether your bike is good or not is if you actually take it out for rides and enjoy it.

Don't think about it too much and keep riding.

are there other aero bars who aren't dorky? or are aero bars by them self dorky?

No that seat tube allows me to go from a ~72° road bike seat tube angle to a ~76° TimeTrail bike angle to open up my hip angles while riding on the aero bars. Compare the pictures and the seat. I can ride TT bike style or road bike style with one bike. I don't have enought money to afford high priced TT bikes and road bikes so I bought the Aero bars and that seat tube after buying that bike.

If i would have known the seat tube before i would have also bought their aero bars because they are quick release aerobars which would be much nicer to take off of the bars if i know i wont use the aerobars so i could take them off but anyways maybe I'll buy them later if i have some more money... A better saddle comes first as you said... and as my sore ass says....

I'm thinking about starting to train to go to races and win some of them... thats also why im thinking about stuff like aero wheels. Maybe I really start to go into races maybe not.

Ahhh now I see what the Anons mean. I was also interested in something like. "Nooo theeeese wheels gonna kill you" or "thats a good bike to kick and spin at 45 mph" or something like that since I'm a complete noob to bikes since I just started out buying a bike and being interested in races and bicycles.

Thanks I'll definitely keep on ridin... love that feeling and its "cheap" to get from a to b.

>>
>>966978

Look into Soul wheels. As far as cheap and light road wheels go, it's hard to to better per $ without building your own

How is the aero position for long rides? I'm screwing with a touring bike making it more aero. Panniers gone, sewing up a frame bag, then maybe put on a cinelli spinaci set to see how that goes
>>
>>967108
Damn these wheels look nice. But they are also a bit to expensive for me yet. And I'm not from the Us so I would have to pay taxes. Maybe I'll buy some used wheels "soon" and some time later i'll buy a new set. I could also hire some for a day or a week or so and test them out and see if its worth it beside the aesthetics...

I think I really love riding aero style... When I first got a road bike some month ago I was all about getting faster because I loved that I can go that fast with my legs... My first "road bike" was a fixie. Before that I had a MTB. Had a terrible crash with the fixie due to my dumbness and was unhappy with a single gear because I hat to ride a lot of hills with a 57/17. I'm a beginner so that was a little annoying so I needed some gears... Fixie was cheap thats why I bought it because I had no money for a decent new road bike with gears and riding MTB was also "fast" but... no no no ... MTB is not what I want to ride on the streets.

So I decided to sell my used MTB and try to get a cheap used good road bike and I got the Stevens im currently riding for 450€. Don't know if thats a good or bad deal but I'm happy riding it and that was worth 450€ and riding up some nice hills.
>>
>>966857
i was thinking köpenhamn, but oslo makes sense
>>
>>967116
When i got the Stevens I was all like yea I have to get fitter and go faster. So i decided to buy some aero bars to see if I like it. Used it for some miles and was all like "hell yea I really like that" and "daaaamn that shit is uncomfy as hell"... and so I did some research and looked into TT bikes and whats different and so one. Seat tube angles and so on are different. Then I found that system that allows me to change my saddle on the fly to a TT style. I was all like i gonna need it and test it out because it was so uncomfy with a road bike and aero bars always sore ass and nuts and always had a hard time to reach the aero bars because I wasn’t sitting forward enough. Soon i decided to buy the seat tube and as i've already mentioned I would have also bought their aero bars due to the quick release thing but I'm low on budget so I just bought the stem because already had these aero bars.

That seat tube arrived some days ago and it feels really nice. I definitely notice the difference between the road bike style position and the TT position. Now its way easier to reach the aero bars in aero position. Also my hip angle is more opened than before because the seat tube serves that. before I was kicking my belly in aero position and now I have the same saddle to crank length while riding road style and while riding TT style on aero bars just by switching the saddle on the fly... I like that but since it arrived some days ago I wasnt riding it for a single 80km session or something like that. the longest time maybe was 30 minutes and it felt really nice switching between these positions and sitting in the aero position.
>>
>>967119
Soon I'll ride them for training a little more often and longer so I'll do some 80km rides or more or little less on these soon to test ot for a longer single session. But all I was riding now with this seat tube was really nice and all what i was looking for since I could barely afford that bike so now I dont have to buy a TT bike soon. I added a lot more time to buy get some money to buy some nice bikes but at the same time loving my road bike also in TT style... I really love it and take my bike everywhere with me... never let it out... don't even have a lock because I would never let it out of sight.... crazy... hopefully there are more ppl that crazy about their bikes...

I love laying on my bike and just spinning arond my pedals so thats why I bought the aero bars. I was imagine like riding my bike while sleeping on the aero bars that must it feels like and yea... I love it... you maybe gonna love it too

And since that cinelli spinaci looks to me (a noob) not like an extreme aero position so probably there isnt the need to use a seat tube like that and still being comfy on it. But if you experience the same I've experienced like kicking your belly or hard to reach or no power to pedals maybe you should try that seat tube.

Theres another question... As I've mentioned I love shiny gears. I clean it every day. How much longer will a shiny drivetrain last compared to an all muddy dirty and never cleaned one? Is there really a difference? Is it huge or is it just 100 miles or so?

This is my bike. It's a cannondale r400, early 90's i think. Not sure what year, any help?

Also, for future bike buying purposes, could you tell me anything about this bike? Does it have an aggressive frame? Is it a standard road bike? that sorta shit. I don't know dick all about bikes, i just like riding.

If it matters, i just got a tape measure out and here's some of the lengths. Top tube, 51 cm, seat tube 54 cm, down tube(the angled one, right?) 56 cm and the top tube to floor is around 78 cm. Also has 21.5 cm cranks, as near as i can measure anyway.

I might of fucked all those lengths up. But i would of fucked them up in a consistent way. Also, fuck me. The welds on this are done so nicely. Having done a lot of welding, i'm honestly impressed.

I have a cinelli spinaci in my parts bin.

It's alright but it doesn't really clamp firmly enough to be useful. I didn't really find myself using the extra hand positions much in any case. The only one that was kind've nice was the little hooks on the sides - you can hook your pointer fingers over them while riding on the tops and for some reason it's pretty comfy.

Your seatpost is an interesting solution to the road/tri fit problem. If you are considering racing with it, you should be aware that it breaks the "5 cm rule" which requires that the nose of your saddle stays at least 5cm behind your bottom bracket. You can seek a morphological exemption, but there is another rule which states that your aerobar extensions cannot reach further than 75cm beyond your bottom bracket. You are allowed to get an exemption for one rule or the other, not both. So your bike in it's present form is not race legal. I'm not sure anyone will care, unless you are placing rather well. But I'm not sure they won't.

The R400 was pretty standard for a road bike, as far as I know. Only thing of note is those weird dropouts that extend behind the rear triangle.

Looks to be a ~1996-1998 or so model. Certainly no later.

IIRC Cannondale bicycles of that era had some QC issues dealing with the welds. They look pretty because they filed them smooth - which as I'm sure you know is a Bad Idea. You would occasionally hear about one of their frames cracking at a weld. Not really something to worry about at this stage of the game.
>>
>>967342
Cheers dude. Im not worried about the welds. They're bloody thick, even if grinded smooth. And if they havent cracked yet, i doubt they will any time soon.

That being said I'm wanting to upgrade the frame. The wheels and seat are fantastic for my fat fucking ass so i can probably save some coins and just buy a frame.

What size is the frame? I'm probably looking for something a little shorter. Every feels pretty nice, but my balls touch the tube when standing. and i wouldn't mind the handlebars to be a bit lower. Although I can slam these ones a lot, it makes the bike look shitty.

>>
>>967334
I would be a little scared to ride on some plastic aero bars and pushing and pulling. Would be too scared that they'll break.

But I probably would use it also as a Finger placeholder haha.

Ahhh ok I see there are some UCI rules.... Is the UCI responsible for bike races? Just in the USA or all over the world? Because I don't live in the USA.

My seat nose is about 2-3 cm further than the bottom bracket. The aero bars stops exactly at 75 cm measured from the middle of the bottom bracket. So I maybe could try racing with it.

But I think if I race with this bike I would take off the aero bars and would race in a normal road bike race. If I wanna race timetrail later then I have to buy a real TT bike which is a lot more aero and shit like this. But first I have to train a little and maybe I'll compete in a newbie race somewhere where I live... Maybe i'll put a lot more work in it or maybe I'll never race again.... But in my head im the one who overtakes everyone ono races and be the first crossing the line.... that would be nice hahaa

>And since that cinelli spinaci looks to me (a noob) not like an extreme aero position so probably there isnt the need to use a seat tube like that and still being comfy on it.

>>967334

Yeah I'm thinking the spinaci will be me dipping into aero bars and seeing if it works for me. I've seen them on a few touring bikes and fits my stupid dream of riding aero with a load

Yeah, my fishing setup is pretty minimal and definitely light.

I tie my own flies and test new patterns on trips, if I need some food I will keep proper size fish but otherwise I use barbless if I am not keeping.

I use it for bombing around the city as well as tech singletrack, so a front brake and gears are useful... Though my range is limited, 34x11-21t 8-speed, have to hike up the steeper off-road stuff. I'll probably just drop the 21 for a 28 or 30, and have 11-12-13-14-15-17-19-(28or30). At any rate, I need a short-cage rear derailleur.

That's a quality ride, those grips the $5 China special?

Thanks, and yes. A stocking gift from the wife, I actually like them a lot. I think they are 'topcabin' brand (kek).

Santa Cruz Superlight 29 in flat-black ano.

I have the same exact ones on my Diamondback and my Cannondale. For $5 they're really great grips, I always seem to strip the bolts when putting them on though

>by the end of the session we had finally started to get comfortable and work up a rhythm
>no pics yet cause my smartphone won't let me

Isn't the fad of inner tube on the chainatays dead?

Most of the people I've seen doing it don't ride that hard and mostly just build 29ers for image

colored tires are tacky as fuck. they've been tacky for a while but unfortunately they've stuck around. when they're worn down just replace them with straight black tires. colored tape is fine. saddle should be black too but it's not atrocious, hopefully you'll be sitting on it most of the time anyway. colored pedals are definitely a little tacky too, especially as they have three colors. it's just too matchy-matchy. but it's a nice bike

I have no clue about bikes and I have this dirt jumper but now its like a kids thing, and I want to convert it to a mountain bike like you.

Did you just attach a cassette on the back, and is there enough room on dirt jumpers?

Do you recommended these numbers for the conversion?

It all depends on the bike. Some are singlespeed specific and can't be converted.

As for numbers, it depends. 32 or 34t chainring and an 11-32 or 12-34 cassette should work, but it depends on your pedaling style, and the terrain you're riding.
