Never actually skated before. I see a lot of people cruising on longboards and it looks pretty fun. How hard is it to use a skateboard for similar transportation? I would prefer it to a longboard.

A regular board, like one you'd take to the park? It depends on where you live, but I think a cruiser setup would be better. They're basically longboards but short with smaller trucks and slightly smaller wheels, but they can go over stuff a lot easier than a regular board, and the ride is a lot smoother.
Unless you actually want to get into street skating too, just get a cruiser. If you want to get into street skating do it faggot. Just know as soon as you hit a lip on a sidewalk, you're gonna eat shit. But that's part of street skating.
