OC taken this past Sunday at New London Connecticut. Why run two ACS I wonder? Isn't one powerful enough for a normal 8 car Heritage Phase II consist?

no idea but im curious
860 btw

Moving a locomotive by operating it as a multiple unit is cheaper than deadheading.
>>
It makes the train faster, of course. JK.

This. Equipment moves are easier to do when you just add stuff to an already scheduled train, instead of trying to find a slot to fit a deadheaded equipment in.

>operating it
It'll be isolated or dead in tow.

Why? Won't be useing any extra fuel.

But would log miles on the odometer, thus hasten the necessary service interval.

Wouldn't the arm be down then?

Locomotive inspections and maintenance are not based on hours or miles, but calendar days. There are several intervals for which progressively more demanding inspections must be performed.

Ok - I get that in the US that might be the practice. Over here inspections and rebuilds are based on mileage. But yea, disregard what I said earlier.

>>952074
I think you mean pantograph

This guy here >>951809
is actually correct.

Since two locos have twice the traction rating it means the conductor can use less throttle, drawing less energy though each individual pantograph
