anyone here take a ferry more than once a year ?
I'm trying to get a job up in Alaska. In that southern part where it is all just isolated small towns on islands. The ferry travel times are ridiculous. Ferries have sleeping cabins and showers, because the trips are so long.
If I get up there. I'm going to have to get involved in politics. Just so the Alaskan ferry service can get some high speed ferries.

Fast ferries have trouble with logs and stuff in the water. BC tried it a while back and that was one of the (many) issues. If you live in a remote area, it takes a long time to get there.

How about an Ekranoplan?
keeps you out of the water and goes at airplane speeds.

Airplanes fly over the complex topography of the surface. Such large and fast vehicles would have too large a turning radius to comply with navigational requirements in the Panhandle. An actual flying boat might work, but there is not enough wealth in the area.

In Halifax we use there little babby UFO ferries to get between either side of the harbor

Not really. We have the East River Ferry but it's mostly useless. I've never taken a Hudson River Ferry but they seem similar. The only real ferry we have is the Staten Island Ferry.

I live a few blocks away from the ferry in Greenpoint and I never take the east river ferry, unless I happen to be going to the financial dist (which is pretty much never).
The only time it was ever useful was when it ran to Rockaway after Sandy. It was much faster and more comfy than the train.
