What is the best entry level road bike under 300 USD?

Would it be better to buy second hand and upgrade as necessary?

Which make/models does /n/ recommend?

Just buy a vintage steel frame road bike off craigslist.
>>
For that price you could maybe get a set of decent wheels, without tires.

$300 is a buy secondhand budget. Nothing worth owning sells new at that price-point. That's not even the "It's kinda crappy but can get you started" price, that's that "Shit will stop working and you won't be able to ride it at all in like a hundred miles" price.

Fuck, i never been on a road bike in my life and even most shitty used ones over 500$. How its feel to ride a drop bar road bike?
>>
>>920841
I think you could get up a thousand miles out of a department store bike if you put in some elbow grease and TLC. Maybe 500 depending on how shitty the tires are. Shimano Tourney doesn't implode that easily.

Feels good man

Where I live everyone rides around on MTBs and road bikes are relatively rare, and pretty damn overpriced too. My cycling life consists on constantly roaming through used shit sites, finding decent deals on the rare occasion.

I thought drop bars were for fags up until 2 years ago when the guy at the LBS told me I should try it. It's fuckin great mong. Now everytime I ride my flat bar commuter, I think about how nice it would be to have drops.
>>
>>920901
They are for fags. You just became a fag, that's all.

Once turn go gay, you're here to stay.

buy something used off Craigslist. Something from the 90's or 80's. Just the fact that it's from a decade or two ago and still hanging around means that it's going to last longer than anything new you buy now. It'll take a little bit of maintenance but probably less than whatever dpt store nonsense you'd be getting otherwise.

I also heard breathing air and drinking water, or anything with water in it in any quantity, will cumulatively make you gay. The only way to avoid eventually becoming gay is to kill yourself before it happens.

I looked at classifieds in my country and after a few weeks I found a two year old bike with 10 speed Shimano groupset and compact crank. Frame is in good condition and the bike weighs about 9.5kg
Was about the price you're looking at. If I bought a new bike I would be paying more for something cheaper and worse.
