If I'm 6'7" and 250 lbs (2m, 100kg) and looking for a rarely road, almost exclusively dirt trails bike, what am I looking for?
I haven't had a proper bicycle for a solid 6 years and that one was already a rusted cruiser. We recently moved somewhere that biking trails are abundant and beautiful. Please halp.
Do you want to do sweet jumps while bombing downhill, or is this more of a "flattish dirt trails" bike? Do you want to ride to the trails, or haul it to the dirt on the back of your car?

Mostly flat trails behind our apartments. They go on for some distance.

Depending on your definition of dirt trails, consider a cyclocross/gravel bike. They are a lot more lively, and a lot more fun for what little road cycling you intend to do.
As long as the trails aren't full of roots or stones bigger than large gravel, cyclocross it is.

I love this bike from nashbar. It's what I recommend to almost anyone getting back into biking. Super versatile. Steel frame and fork can take your weight, along with the 28 and 32 spoke wheelset.

My (admittedly small) experience with cheapish bikes is that they come with something resembling >600g Alexrims, 2-1.8-2mm spokes and brass nipples on low end Shimano hubs.
All making them virtually indestructible as long as the spoke tension isn't completely bonkers.
Even if it is, and the LBS is so shitty it can't fix it, a pair of MT15 is what, €100?
