Is some shit like this even possible?
Now I want an RV.

yes, they are, they expand
>>910688
No they aren't.
>>910677
Sure but it will cost you a lot of money.
It's better to just buy a normal RV and some throw DIY on it.
>>910677
Yes. As long as you have a rubber ducky in the shower, anything is possible.
Anything is possible if you follow your dreams~

Possible, yes, but keeping a cat in a space that small is just mean.
>>910677
Yeah, I built one. It's not as nice or cute.
>>910677

>>910752
That is too extravagent to be cozy. OP's image is cozy.
>>910677
Nice and cozy but you can tell they're getting tired of the goddamn cat.
When I am older I will definitely get an RV. Travel around the states, camp out, the usual.
Speaking from personal experience, I looked at a number of small RV's (I live in the US) but I didn't want to have to own and pay taxes on two vehicles. A RV is terrible to drive to store or to work. About the only vehicle that can handle both roles is a VW Westphalia and they haven't been produced in years. So I settled on buying a Casita, a small 2,000 pound trailer that i can pull with my Ford Escape. And I like being able to unhitch when I'm camped and go exploring.
>>910709
Pretty sure they are, only bikes.
>>910677
i really like stuff like this, here is source of OP btw
http://www.pixiv.net/member.php?id=182601
Why wouldn't it be possible?
The shower is always the tough part. Everything else you can cheap out and make do: crappy chemical toilet, hiking stove, thermo-electric cooler, etc. But you can't have a practical shower without full standing head-room, two big tanks, at least one powerful pump, and a good size water heater. It's all expensive and heavy and freezes in the winter, but if you don't have it you might as well just go camping with a motorcycle.
In OP's pic the volume required for engine, drivetrain, various tankage, and kitties litterbox all seem to be ommited. She seems to be storing spare gasoline indoors. It looks too wide, especially in Japan. No, shit like this is not even possible.
>>910917
A lot of RV showers only work when connected to external water, I thought, and an inline electric heater doesn't take up that much space.
>>910760
>tfw Euros will never know the joy of driving a house across a continent
>>910918
I don't drive apt, do truck stops usually have a water hook up or just scuzzy trucker showers?
>>910917
>two big tanks, at least one powerful pump
Nigga.
Hell you don't even need a shower, just a bucket and a washcloth.
>>910917
Well, if you take the shower vent to be a foot wide, the whole thing is 5 1/2' long. Let's check that:
The car is 50mm wide on my screen, while the license plate is 13mm wide. The actual plate would be a large-size Japanese plate (since the vehicle is over 8 tons), so actual size would be about 1690mm, or roughly 5` 6 1/2``
What throws off one's sense of proportion about this truck is the fact that the girl is pictured sitting at a low desk so she's essentially an inch above the floor.
>>911016
We can drive for an hour and be in another country with different language, culture etc.
Plus you could drive from the UK to Singapore or something if you wanted to do a mental long distance journey.
Parents own a van.
Basically the van in the pic is way larger than an actual van would be. Space is at a premium with most motorhomes, RVs not so much.
Basically my parents van is like this:
1. Driver and front passenger seat at front.
2. Above Drivers seat is a bunk bed, this is where I sleep.
3. Dining, seating area converts to a sleeping area.
4. Small Kitchenette/sink with fridge.
5. Last third or so is a bathroom.
Space is a premium in those things, it won't be like having a small bedsit on wheels. I'm willing to answer questions.
>>911041
I can bike from Buckingham Palace to Chinatown for lunch and then be tried, convicted and put to death under sharia law by late afternoon without leaving London. But that's not what we're talking about here. >Texas is bigger than your shit countries
>authentic beaner food everywhere plus mah barbecue
>tfw thats all the culture i need
>>911088
All right, let's hear the tale of how cars are not against the rules of /n/.
>>910677
It is called a camping car. This one is shit. The bed should be above the driving seat, there is no place to stock things and there is no shiter.
And you don't want the cat to be trapped inside.
>>910677
>crumple zones: none
cosey enough? or too small?
>>911254
needs a pop-top roof deshou
>>911241
>Roller-skate wheels under front seats
Yes, that shit is actually quite hard to build.
I'm planning to build a camping car out of a Fiat Ducato van (16.3 ft external size).
Internal size: 2670mm lenght, 1872mm width (down to 1420mm in the rear wheels area), 1930mm height. That is, 105.1 x 73.7 (55.9) x 76 inches - but should subtract at least 30-40mm on every side for winter/summer insulation; this means that if you shouldn't be taller than 6ft...
I can actually place a standard-size bed (75x32 inch), accommodate a 27x55in bathroom (has a statue of Liberty on the door), and still have space for kitchen, sink, refrigerator, stove and a foldable glass table near the side door. Battery, inverter and white/black water tanks go under the bed (under the van there is not much space available)
The OP image is not possible without rebuilding the van, and the character playing with the cat is less than 5ft tall. Also, his internal useful insulated space appears to be ~120in wide x ~80in long. Also, I wonder where goes the cat poo, where are the (large and heavy) white/black water tanks, battery, inverter, kitchen gas tank, and so on.
Note also that heavy stuff should be in the lowest possible position (keep the CG low) and decently balanced, for safety reasons.
Using quality stuff (Dometic cassette wc, Shurflo water pump, and so on) I can build it with only 15,000 bucks, including insulation.
>>911304
How about using something like this instead? Already insulated much better than you can ever hope to achieve yourself, boxy shape with square angles easier to furnish. No idea about price on these things
>>911309
Yes, but it features also ugly miles/gallon, harder to park in urban areas, driver seat not connected with inside area.
>>910677
that car's balance seems really bad. you'll get some really ugly uneven wearing on the tires. plus, you're going to have to find an external water source, because there is no way in hell you're taking a fucking watertank and heater with you. it doesn't look very fuel efficient, and the uneven balance and added weight from all your crap isn't going to help.
>>911310
>it features also ugly miles/gallon
Does it really? I see no reason why it should...
>harder to park in urban areas
It's not that much larger footprint than a Chevy van, from the looks of it.
>driver seat not connected with inside area.
That is actually a huge safety bonus when vehicle is in motion.
get an ex ambulance
I spend a couple nights a week in my truck.
I get free showers with purchase of diesel fuel. Also I get $ for sitting in the seat, looking out the window and listening to music.
>>911324
That's a lot of dials. Are you truckin'?
>>911333
I am indeed Mr trips
>no bathroom
>>911050
I agree, OP >>910677 looks cozy, because the width is not realistic.
A single bedroom's width is already 90cm to 100cm.
A typical van's width is 130cm
Do or do not there is no try.
Those walls are hella thin
>>911201
It would seem that rules #1 and #2 are in contradiction.
I built this about a year ago, took pictures for portfolio, then took it back apart a little bit.
I lived in this truck for about 6 months once, before the remodel.
It's doable, but you have to know where convenient facilities are.
http://imgur.com/gallery/TyDZ1
>>911391
Not really. #1 defines everything outside the domain of Transportation as off limits for this board. #2 defines everything inside the domain of Automobiles as off limits. It's perfectly normal for charters or treaties to first lay out general rules, and then specific exemptions or clarifications. The 4chan rules are not authored in the most concise unambiguous language available, but it's pretty clear that rule #1 and #2 together means that /n/ is for discussions about modes and means of transportation, to the exception of discussions about automobiles unless it is in the context of a discussion about other modes and means of transportation.

Could you point me to the section of the brochure where it states that it is illegal to use metric and imperial in the same body of text? I can't seem to find it. Oh, never mind: I just recalled that the imperial units are defined as products of their metric equivalents multiplied by a respective coefficient, and are, as such, metric in nature.

I could but I shan't. If I acceded to every such request it would form an expectation which would tend to reduce the number of people reading the SI Brochure.
>I just recalled that the imperial units are defined as products of their metric equivalents multiplied by a respective coefficient, and are, as such, metric in nature.
Implying the absence of conversion factors is not a key feature of metric units
Implying all metric units are accepted for use with the SI
You really are a tuberous root of some magnitude, aren't you?
>>911488
>that feelio when brits give height in m and weight in stones
That is rarely the case in my experience.

>>911498
>I could but I shan't.
You can't, but even if you could, there is still nowhere in the Imperial Units Handbook that you can't intersperse SI units among imperial in a body of text. And even if there were, colloquial conversation is outside the jurisdiction of any standards of scientific endeavour.
>>911201
Those "rules" are contradictory at their core.
>>911415

my old roommmate couple, the wonderful industrius hippies from montana got an old RV, fixed it up and moved in with their hairless cat and neopolitan mastiv. they generally drive it across the country and stay with friends and family
my other roommate couple from new york followed suit and bought an rv for half that price, didnt fix it up and are still parked in front of the old house with no water, electricity, plumbing with 3 cats and a pitbull. i believe theyre on heroin now
i have a ford rangercab height shell on the back filled with a twin size bed
in the cab is anything of value locked away hidden behind the driver and passenger seats:
bmx tools, cast iron pans and propane stove
in the bed is my twin sized bed. wish i had something thinner because i cant even sit up striahgt
what do i keep in there? 4 changes of clothes and two weeks worth of socks/undies in a travel messenger
fuck off load of blankets for cold nights, sleepingbag for freezing nights
my bmx bike dissaseembled to my right
big cardboard box of kitchen utensils to my right
big cardboard box of random foodstuff to the left
small cardboard box of my daily esssentials (left)
small cardboard box of random crap (left)
cardboard boxes are flexy and not ridgid against my body and kinda fit into each other
I even have room to keep my spare tire cause my trunk tire holder cable snapped
AND there is still room for comfy sleeping and mediocre sex!
i usually have it parked in someones yard and do most my cooking/living in the house and just sleep in there with a powercord running to my truck to charge my phone and run a lil space heater i have
when im on the road, sometimes ill need to emergency shit. very panic situation
also stressful is popping out and pissing on the side of peoples houses every morning after the sun has come up.

I will report you with the ferocity the likes of which has never been seen before on Polls & Survyes, mark my sourced words. You think you can get away with saying violations like that over Y!A? Think again, troll. As we speak I am contacting my secret network of admins across Yahoo and your question is being reported right now so you better prepare for the violation, maggot. The violation that will wipe out the pathetic little thing you call your account. You're getting suspended, kid. I can be anywhere, anytime and I can thumbdown you with over seven hundred accounts and that's just with my level 2s. Not only am I extensively trained in point farming, but I have access to the entire database of Yahoo, and I will use it to it's full extent to wipe your miserable profile off the face of the internet, you little clone. 93 octane for $1.95 a gallon.
I'm loving every minute of it.
>>923661
It's not so much of an issue at that price difference but do factor in the reduced efficiency of ethanol. It holds less energy per gallon so no amount of ECU jiggery pokery will fix that.
>>923660
Implying anyone gives a shit about tasteful nudity here
>>923713
Ethanol is slightly less efficient, but not enough where most people are going to notice. The biggest difference is that it doesn't store for as long as gasoline w/o ethanol. It will more readily absorb the moisture in the air.
>>910677
It certainly is possible.
That being said, do you have the humility, patience, and money to live in one? You don't get everything you want, but you get everything you need. Of course, finding a place to park to live legally is the challenge, assuming you don't want to pay for monthly fees at an RV park.

Your pic is the faggotest project I ever saw.
{1} solar & batteries: overboard apeshit.
You should calculate the total daily amp/hour to:
- a few hours illumination (evening and early morning)
- running a notebook pc (12-16 hours) and charging a cellphone
- some essential appliances (water pump, car alarm...)
The guy wants to use an air-conditioner while badass gaming with "pump up the volume" surround system... while parking in full sun off-grid to charge the batteries... what a jerk!
{2} toilet, plumbing and white/gray/black water tanks: funnily absent.
You should calculate summer/winter daily usage:
- some 10 liters to shower
- some 5 liter to cook and wash stuff
- drinking: only from bottles, for hygienic reasons
The guy simply forgot to add a shower/toilet room (normally a 700x700mm area is sufficient). What if he has to take a rampant diarrhoic shit in the middle of a rainy night?
{3} kitchen: totally absent.
Does the guy live on cheap 6-pack tacos?
- the 26-lt movable fridge will store barely store two days worth of food
- no other food storage area present.
{4} appliances: ridicolously exaggerated.
A single notebook pc with wireless internet is way more than needed.
- an inverter/charger is only a "just in case" add-on
- 75w surround speakers? when will you use them? do you plan to park in the desert to listen your beloved niggarap muzak?
- split airconditioner: useless and noisy. You will spend summer in northern hills tasting that lovely fresh air, and winter in some temperate climate zone. A couple of vents (and a small gas stove for emergency) are more than adequated.
{5} jerkfaggot sizes
- the inside of the van is 152cm high. The faggot is 140cm tall (or less)
- the bed is a queen-sized. The faggot is obese (140cm diameter, or more)
>>924014
A decent project should keep in mind these points:
- should let you stay 7-10 days without resupplying anything (if you don't waste energy and water)
- decent toilet room with shower; you should take a dump and a shower without having the entire van smelling for hours
- decent kitchen with food storage area and a decent fridge (you shouldn't ever have to wish to eat like other humans)
- easily cleanable and serviceable appliances (water tanks and so on): you don't want to panic
- well ventilated, well insulated (stove should be for emergency only)
- easily accessible bed
Privacy, redundancy, safety!
- not leaking light if all lights on inside and totally dark outside
- two separate plumbing, two separate electric systems (in case of emergency, disable a system and switch everything to the other)
- low center of gravity (tanks and batteries have to be on the floor).
>>924311
that TV would be pretty hard to watch properly too
>>924321
It seems that so much more could be achieved in these things if the requirement for standing room was done away with (except in the shower). Are there any examples of something like that?
>>924681
vandwellers spend most time outside their low top van.
but there are times you will have to stay inside way longer than you have thought: in those cases it is essential to be able to stand up for a few minutes stretching.
also, a well-packed low-roof van has less breathable air than a high top one. the rule "smaller is better" (which is not the exact opposite of "bigger is better") only relates to a few use cases.

>>928552
Here in Europe you would be able to drive only if the interior may be classified as transported goods - i.e., it has to be easily and quickly removable (the vehicle does not change its status from "van" or "truck" to "recreational vehicle").
Certification is a lenghty and painstaking process, because engineering relations have to be signed, and so on. This is why self-built RVs are quite uncommon on our roads.
