crankset is a 5800 with old school gearing.
Although I really enjoyed this gearing in the past, I wish I would have gone compact on this build.

How are you liking it so far, anon?
>>
>>897598
She rides great! This is my first bike as an adult, though I did ride a lot of department store mountain bikes as a kid. So I don't have much to compare it to, but it really exceeded my expectation of speed and the riding position is comfortable. One thing is that after a few hours the seat really started to hurt my ass. Not that the inner bits were sore from being sat on, but the ass bones felt like they were getting bruised from the pressure of putting weight directly on them. I will try adjusting the angle of the seat and see if it changes anything
>>
>>897452
I love the color of this. Looks like it really goes well with your environment. Why do you put the rack on the front though? Don't you find it works better over the back wheel so it doesn't bog down your steering?
>>
>>897591
>>897593
>>897595
What light are you using on the bike?
>>
>>897624
It doesn't have any fender eyelets. There is a small hole that's tapped on the dropout but it's only on the drive side. Rather than use P clamps to mount a rear rack I decided to use this Soma rack which mounts on the axle and brake bolt.

Sweet. How you liking the VO fenders as well? If I ever get around to building up a new ride, I'll probably go full Rando with a set of those and chrome everything.

>>897950
Do it up. You can treat it like shit or just make it look like shit, but either way it'll be a blast to ride. Just painted most of the rear fender a glittery gold just for shits and gigs and I've got more stickers coming to boot.
>>
>>898005
The fenders were really easy to set up, they're super adjustable too just don't cut the hardware too short. They are also thin and light. I had rando in mind when I was rebuilding this bike

/n/ newfag, first road bike I bought, got it off CL for $100 (kinda got ripped off considering it was in total shit shape with 30 year old parts). Rode it for half a year, then after a tire blew out last year I ordered a bunch of parts and never installed them, and just now got the motivation to fix it after I kept tripping over it in my hallway. I'm just gonna use it really for occasional commuting/alternative to driving to the gym.

1988 Panasonic Sport.

Bell Memory Foam Seat, Dia-Compe 76 Pads, Sunlite thorn resistant tubes, Panasonic Pasaela tires, new foam grips, SRAM PC830 chain, Jagwire shift/brake cables, used front Shimano AX50 derailleur after the original one got stuck and broke while riding.

Soz for the shitty snapchat pic, I'll post a nicer one by Friday once I'm done. Waiting on a few parts and I still wanna clean off 20 years of grime. Regret not fixing it earlier. I'd paint it but I like the old 80s Panasonic decals and its better if it looks like shit as a commuter bike.
>>
>>899135
>I'll post a nicer one by Friday once I'm done.

Owner of >>897723 here

Build up a spare parts bike. That's partially how mine came about, and it's a blast. Currently it's my daily beater I ride around town and the only one of my 3.5 rides seeing any action since the inclement weather has started to show up.

Another option - pick up an old 10spd, slam some modern components on it with a set of flatbars/risers and run it one-by like pic related.

Definitely my next intended build is a ratty 1x vintage/modern build.

It's designed to drop the chain when sideways force is applied via a derailer. It's perfectly fine to use in a single speed setup, it's no different to simply not shifting gears.

I grabbed this after posting it in the BBG a few weeks ago.
Replaced front derailleur, bottom bracket, bar tape, tires, tubes, and pedals with shit I had lying around. Got it clean and running with some work and the help of you /n/igel Thornberrys

As promised, here are some pics. It's about 90% done as it and I had to take some shitty pictures inside since it's storming outside, but it should do for now.

Had to use flash, so the bar tape didn't show up that well.

Those spoke nipples are dope, not to mention the matching cages and saddle. I wouldn't change a thing until you've ridden it for a while and find out what works/doesn't for you.

I love your bike, but I'm a bit biased because I have an '81 Limited myself. Do you know if yours is made of 022 tubing or is it some other grade of Ishiwata tubing?

I honestly have no idea on the tubing.
It seems that there isn't a wealth in information on the Japanese made Bianchis.

I think I've got it exactly where I want mechanically. Maybe I'll switch to brifters down the line, but I kind of like downtube shifters, honestly.

I'm really digging the aesthetic of your bike. How hard was it to switch to brifters?
Does yours also feel really. . . maneuverable (twitchy)?
Mine is a nice ride, but it definitely requires a lot more attention than my other bikes. It just feels like it wants to go fast.
>>
>>899673
I like DT shifters too, have them on a couple of my other bikes. Switching from DT to STI levers is really easy if you already have indexing-compatible wheels and derailers, you just switch the levers, replace the DT levers with cable stops, and run cables/housing from the shifters - that's it.

My Bianchi is fairly aggressive/twitchy, not so much as some track or crit racing machines I've been on, but yeah, like yours it's definitely a bike that demands to be ridden as fast as possible.

I've noticed it really smooths out on descents.
I've looked into switching to brifters, but only microshift has a decent 2x7 set and I've never used their products before.
I think I'll just stick with my DT. Plus I really like the 1055 brake levers (pic related)
>>
>>899667
sweet bike, but in dire need of a pedal upgrade.

if you bother upgrading stem, go for silver so it matches the group and seat post.

the white and blue saddle doesn't match but the logos fit, less jarring than the stem IMO.

I've got that same group on my fast bike, really like it. really nice looking bike. get those fucking rat traps offa there.

Yeah, I only used those pedals because I had them lying around. I only paid $100 for the bike, so I don't know if I want to sink the money into a good set of pedals.

I'll probably just ride it around for a while before swapping out the stem and leave the seat. I'll keep my eyes out for a set of pedals, too.

I know, right?
It wasn't in that great of condition when I found it. I think I have $160-170 sunk into it right now, not including the spare stuff I had already, but I still think that's a good deal.
The guy I got it from was super cool and told me about his travels through the U.S., but he only had a year to live.
I think he ended up selling it to me since we got along and he probably had a bunch of flippers on his ass.

>>899685
The Italian ones are more collectible, worth more, and had campy parts.
A lot of people do say that the Japanese had better workmanship, from what I've read.
I think it's something like the Italian ones are cooler, more relaxed, and more about having an enjoyable ride, while the Japanese ones are built like precision instruments.
This is just stuff I've gathered from researching the bike, though.
>>
>>899688
Also, please don't bully me about the junk corner
>>
>>899688
Here's what I'd do:
I'd replace the pedals straight away. I certainly hope that once you get the bike fit properly, the flutes on the seatpost are fully exposed, they look better that way. If not, maybe get a new seatpost for aesthetics. Stem as well.

You should inspect the brake cables and housings and replace them straight away if there are any cracks/dry rot. If you keep the cables, be sure to put some lube in them, you'll get much better stopping power.

You should also either learn bike maintenance, or get someone to service the wheel bearings, headset, and bottom bracket. I can almost guarantee that the grease will be all dried up in there.

Other than that, it's a good bike that should be a lot of fun.
>>
>>899688
>>899696
Also, upon further inspection, I'd maybe get some newer tires. Those ones will probably be fine for a while though, and you have a pump peg on the headtube. Maybe get a frame-fit pump for it, they're very handy and look good on bikes like that.
>>
>>899696
>>899697
I've already replaced the BB because I happen to have the right one on hand. Brake cables, housing, and hubs are good. I've been trying to get better at maintenance, so the only thing left is is the headset and maybe the hubs if they start acting up.

I don't really plan on putting much more money into this bike. I don't want to put more into it than it's worth. I'll probably get a stem at some point, but I don't plan on getting a pump or seatpost. I'll just ride the tires until they fail.

Thanks for the advice guys!
>>
>>899697

They're SKS Chromoplastics. Pretty solid for what they are and prevent most nastyness from getting kicked up, but that's also due in part to my tires; they're 50mm fenders but I'm running 45c tires, I need to go down to a 35-38c tire for the fenders to really shine.

The tires themselves barely fit too, any bits of gravel held on by the tire can be heard rolling between it and the fender

Your whip is pretty sweet too man. Gonna get that steerer tube cut eventually?

Couldn't tell you.

I was floored when I saw that Raleigh [USA] was actually making proper bicycles, not some BSO shit that's sold at Walmart when I came across this on Kijiji. It was a near stock Raleigh Tripper that looks nothing like it's stock form any more, but it's pretty great.

It's a shame the Raleigh brand is tarnished up here in Canada, as this is literally the only Raleigh that I've come across, new and used, that isn't either an 80s ten speed or some shit big box bike. They're solid rides.

Pretty much. The only thing under the Raleigh brand you see sold here is the shit in Canadian Tire and Walmart. Even my LBS was surprised to see a Raleigh USA bike up here in Canada when I showed it to them, and they're a huge Cannondale & Specialized dealer and complete bike nuts themselves.

I haven't heard of any, let alone many shops carrying Raleigh USA out this way.

wow, the internet has no pictures of my early 90s Raleigh Tactic ;~;

similar paint to that Trek, but more neon green than yellow, and a slightly thicker splatter pattern. it was neat.

Mostly all of what that other guy said. Also when would you ever use one? If you're leaving your bike you're gonna have to lean it up against whatever your locking it to, anyways. I've heard some can fuck up your frame too. Mustache bars would be my consideration for that steed.

You summed it up perfectly. I was surprised how smooth and forgiving the ride was especially after riding a mtb w/front suspension for the last two and a half yrs. Rip...
The last roadbike I had was a 80's motobecane 60cm in my teens and tho it was a great ride too, it didn't feel nearly as zippy as the 62cm shogun. I'm pretty happy w the choice as it's in rly tight shape and was just the right price.

Why do you care if someone rides a troll bike as their daily commuter? It looks like he probably lives in a college town and he's got himself an inexpensive fixie, made it look a bit gay to deter thieves yet also made it extremely distinguishable from any other bicycle.

>that is the gayest fucking bike I've ever seen in my entire fucking life and I hope you get beaten the fuck up you chode-eating gaylord cunt.

Guaranteed you're a fat edgelord who is SO INSECURE about his own sexuality that you need to lash out at any perceived gayness you witness online. Honestly, it's the biggest tell that someone is bicurious - I'd bet you'd be willing to fool around with gay dudes after a few brews lol.

gotta get an aluminum frame soon. Winter is close
>>
>>901406
Aluminum hates winter road salt nearly as much as steel. Your frame paint should be enough to avoid corrosion from that.
>>
>>901407
My co-worker's aluminum bianchi has been through 4 winters and is doing fine (based on quick glances.)

If I went over and painted and primed and chips should I be good?
>>
>>901408
It will help, but wiping your bike down (or at the very least toweling it off) after a gross winter ride will do more for longevity.
>>
>>901422
I always kek when I hear "wipe down your bike after a ride to help longevity"

The parts where a towel are going to reach aren't the problem. I'm not worried about my paint job rusting or my tires rotting off. I'm worried about the inner surfaces of the frame, the inside of bearings, the inside mechanism of derailers and brifters

Does anyone have an actual practical suggestion on how to deal with those?
>>
>>900118
Is it just me or does the chain seem to sag just a bit?
>>
>>901427
1. just make sure you've packed your bearings with grease before winter arrives and those will be fine since grease is hydrophobic
2. for the inside of the frame, you can spray the interior with a product like Frame Saver if you're paranoid, but generally just blocking off any water ingress points is sufficient
3. derailers and shifters generally aren't bothered cold and wet conditions, you might add some light oil to points where derailer cables are open to moisture, but otherwise you don't need to do anything

Probably not. But everyone's personal cat is always their favorite cat.

>>901401
Yup. Need to get some more.

>>901406
If it's painted it'll be fine for the most part. If you're really worried just treat the inside of the frame with framesaver and grease/lube all the fittings where water might get in. Attempt to clean it off once every few weeks, and you're golden.

Just an fyi, for handlebars like those, you want the bottom portion of the handlebar, the drops, to be parallel to the ground or tilted slightly downwards, as they are right now that portion of the handlebar isn't exactly useful.

>>901485
