PHILOSOPHY TIME
>>
Fact: on the first 5 Metallica records, the best songs are track 1 and 5 (only exception being Kill 'em All, since Anesthesia is a shitty song, so it's 1 and 6).
>>
>>66477458
No, I don't think demons can kill themselves. From what I understand, they just wanted to carry on wreaking havoc instead of floating around looking for another host. The purposes of the story are basically to warn against the destructive nature of demons, and to demonstrate Jesus' authority over them.

>>

>>
>>66478256
battery is the worst song on puppets, trapped under ice is one of the weaker songs on ride the lightning, the shortest straw is probably the worst song on ajfa, and there are plenty of songs better than enter sandman on the black album
>>
>>66478382
>the shortest straw is probably the worst song on ajfa
the title track, eye of the beholder, harvester of sorrow, to live is to die are all worse than shortest straw.
>>
>>66478264
nice interpretation, anon
although, if i remember correctly, according to the Bible demons are just fallen angels and are physical beings

"AVE

>Thanks for the letter. Yes, Goateye is stone dead! He blew his brains out with a shotgun after cutting open all his veins on his wrists and his throat! Brutal as the devil!

Well, the reason for doing this was that he lived only for the EVIL black metal scene, and its lifestyle with rivets, chains, crosses black clothes and hell. Today all "death" metal bands have normal clothing and jogging pants and look as ordinary as they can, and the same goes for the audience who are nothing but trendy little kids with jogging pants and skateboards! When he discovered that only (with a few exceptions) trendy children listened to us and came to concerts, and that all he stood for with the old evil scene was laid to waste by kids and hardcore-moral-political-idiots; he decided to die. I have declared WAR on the trendy children and FALSE "death" metal bands! Normal people should FEAR death metal! They will DIE!

But I must add that it was interesting to be able to study (half) a human brain and rigor mortis. When I found him I naturally got my camera and took CLOSE-ups of the corpse from different angles, and me and Hellhammer found 2 large pieces of the cranium that we have hung in neck chains. The pictures will be used on the Mayhem album. We will NOT disband! No way in hell! We believe a curse has been laid on Mayhem because EVERYTHING goes to hell, but I will NEVER give up! No, we will not attend his funeral because Dead would have HATED that. + it is expensive and he will not notice it much anyway. His mother told us that we have to be there but I don't give a fuck, I'm not a fucking therapist. I'm counting on that our bass player will be there, but that is because he is a sentimental wimp-fucker who didn't even have the guts to see the BLOOD. We will probably have a new bass player soon."
>>
>>66478426
title track and instrumental are easily among the best
the other two you mentioned are similarly average like shortest straw, although eye of the beholder has a better chorus and i like harvester of sorrow for being the obligatory slower groovier song
shortest straw has little going for it aside from a catchy riff that probably influenced countdown-era megadeth
>>
>>66478488
euronymous was goat
>>

To Live Is To Die is the most repetitive and needlessly long song Metallica has ever recorded.

>>66478432
The Bible is frustratingly vague on the topic of demons and angels. It never uses the term 'fallen angels', and it doesn't say whether they're spiritual, physical or both. The Qur'an and the various Kabbalahs go into much more detail.
>>
>>66478264
so in that case, why did jesus give them permission to wreak more havoc?

>>66478938
Like I said, as a warning. According to American theologian William L. Lane:
>Jesus allowed the demons to enter the swine to indicate beyond question that their real purpose was the total destruction of their host.
They had wanted to destroy the possessed man, just like they destroyed the pigs, but the man was more capable of resisting them.

Wow, this is actually pretty great
having a few long songs instead of a ton makes it much easier to digest, and it's just pretty great synth work. it's Midnight Odyssey goes Doomy instead of spacey and it's pretty great tbqhwy l a d s

i still don't get the whole ''dude what if i record this album as a split between all my solo projects lmao'' thing this album has got going on because the song don't really variate in style between all the different projects

I still think that Meshuggah's riffing can be described as djent-y.
just like Black Sabbath can be described as doom metal, even though the term was invented for bands that drew influence from them.
but I myself don't refer to Black Sabbath as doom, so go ahead and call Meshuggah technical groove metal or whatever you think is best.

>VAI Don’t know it. But then I have a harp player in my band who said, “Who’s Van Halen?” She didn’t even know Van Halen. I said, “Did you ever hear of Led Zeppelin.” She said, “I think I heard some of his music.” [laughs] I mean the phrase sounds familiar, but I don’t know what it is.

>ABASI: Djent is supposed to be what I’m doing. You’ve described it already. You’re hearing this sort of polymetric thing, a lot of palm muting and there might be ethereal clean tones over it. It’s essentially what they’re calling what this new wave of bands are doing; what I’m doing. Because you know what djent is? It’s like a chug on the low strings, like djent, djent, djent. It just has more treble.

>VAI: Oh, of course, yeah, I did hear that. But I never connected it.

>ABASI: Meshuggah’s the originator of djent. But what do I think of the term? I think people need to call things stuff.

A wider range of vocals and a stronger melodic talent surfaced on Crack The Skye (Reprise, 2009), which at times sounds like an emocore crossover album (Oblivion, Quintessence), and sometimes a progressive-rock album (the magniloquent Divinations, the 10-minute jam The Czar that propels a languid hymn), sometimes even bordering on pop-metal (Crack the Skye). The 13-minute The Last Baron is emblematic of how confused and unrealistically ambitious these Mastodon can be: swinging between speed-metal and arena-pop, the piece is practically devoid of any emotion, meaning or purpose. There is very little that is "technical" about Mastodon's music at this point. They are closer to Dream Theater than their fans are willing to admit.

It's this Industrial Metal/Digital Hardcore band with a lot of pop punk in it, i remember back in the early/mid 2000s it being this album being reviewed on several magazines (one of them was a French translation, i believe) reviewing this album like it was the maddest shit ever, how different japanese music was and how MCM's was a perfect encapsulation of that culture clash. It's pretty crazy and honestly melancholic in a nostalgic way looking back on those years to see just how fucking wrong we were.

Baroness and Mastodon are just boring pseudo-sludge and Mastodon is boring pseudo-death, but that's just me

really, i think it's the implications of the people listening to them, the usual which is ''i don't like [genre] but this is fantastic :DDDDD'' if they don't outright say ''most death metal is shit but this is agdually breddy gud 4/5''

you can see why a community of people who do love these genres could come to resent these people, who disregard music by musicians who work extremely ward to become talented songwriters and musicians with few prospects regarding making money from said music only for them to mindlessly praise what is essentially a dumbed down, accessible version of the music they were calling ''childish'' or ''edgy'' or any other buzzword of choice

no, that's one of their sludgier and better tracks, but listen to the majority of their stuff and tell me that ''mix of hardcore punk and doom metal'' is what comes to your mind

I'm not saying that's how I'd describe their sound, but it's definitely part of the equation, at least on their first three albums.

Right back atcha buddy.

It's not like they were the ones claiming they were sludge. You know how labels can be with marketing.
>>
>>66486915
kek, that is true
i remember back in the early 2000s i went to a record store and Fredrik Thordendal's Sol Niger Within was tagged as ''Post-Thrash Metal''

Deafheaven too, they don't even call themselves black metal, it's just marketing pushing that shit as le thinking man's black metal and the hip and cool crowd eating it up

>>66486892
look, anon, they definetely have sludge in their sound, but that's not really their main genre and that was really not my point
