It's time to clean your audio devices.

Listen to your library, show off your backlog, babble about new music, tell us what you've been listening to today and what you will listen to in the following month, conclude that Jangle's Thrift Tourney was a spook, listen to Swedish prog, and just let the good times flow.

listening to Pagan by Palmistry. The production is very good, but kinda slow and minimalistic, which isn't really a bad thing itself, just that it lacks the energy of dancehall. It's just loner dancehall really. Also has been called cultural appropriation because palmistry is white haha

That is what I did when I initially listened to RPOV. I actually ended up liking the original version better, probably because of more Otomo.

HTLT is decent in terms of futuristic space feels and all that. ToD is riddled with ineffective chord progressions, uncharacteristically bland production techniques, and an overall stale sense of album production.

Trianglecubed wins the last round!
Letov's album wasn't bad but I could not see any signs of improvement when compared to Gris-Gris, and it definitively felt longer and unnecessary. On the other hand, Benzaiten was also a bit overlong, but tried to be original and I really liked how it could mix funky rhythms and traiditional japanese music.

i ain't home but I still got onions

Damien Dubrovnik - Vegas Fountain (2015)
>death industrial

Balances the hard and the soft very nicely and with tact and restraint. Most of the tracks here are very dark and ominous ambient, and they'd definitely get boring and tedious if they were left alone to just keep droning on, but enough surprises are thrown into the mix to keep them really interesting. Mainly there are a lot of crashes into noise and industrial which could easily be seen as lazy and could be done very poorly (looking at you Third Law) but it's done very well. Good stuff.

>Zeal and Ardor - The Devil is Fine
>black metal, spirituals

Lets take black metal and throw in bleak southern slave spirituals songs into, seems like win-win. But the album as a whole is a neat concept, poor execution. Now there are a few songs in here that are damn good, the right balance of metal and soul songs that compliment each other and give off this great vibe. But then you have a odd track that bring trap music out of nowhere, really kills the mood. The albums tone is sort of all over the place that it becomes incoherent until the next gospel takes place. It's awkward but I wouldn't mind seeing another attempt at this genre fusion in the future, it really has the potential to bring something good and unique to the table.

>Ariel Pink's Haunted Graffiti - The Doldrums
>lo-fi indie

Bored with this, didn't care for the high-pitched singing and the humdrum dopey play style. Liked the warped quality that some of the tracks had, but overall the album just drags on, and on, and on...

Just finished listening to Montie's first album

Not bad, though had he packaged the songs with a bit more diversity (boggle has pointed out that the piano playing hardly changes besides light to heavy strokes) then this would have been enjoyed more. For now, I see it as a capsule of ideas that might be perfected in the future.

dropping a few reviews

Glenn Jones - Fleeting (2016)
>american primitivism

Glenn Jones consistently has the best cover art of any artist ever. Every single album cover of his features an animal super passionately playing the guitar, and it's awesome. But musically, this is a major step down from something like This Is the Wind That Blows It Out. This is an odd album for primitivism, as it's about as far away from Fahey and blues that you can get and still be considered primitivism. It's a lot more in the Basho school of primitivism (he's even namedropped on a song title here), but I feel at times it comes off as a pale imitation. It's more atmospheric than passionate, and it comes off as a bit stale and synthetic. Still really pretty at times and obviously enjoyable, but just not what I look for in instrumental guitar music.

The Urinals - Negative Capability... Check It Out! (1997)
>art punk, garage punk

I really do admire this, because it's so fucking brutally minimalistic and scuzzy, but sometimes it's just flat out painful to listen to its so amateur sounding. I can very safely say the studio recordings are the best part of this comp, they're super energetic, catchy, and gritty. A few duds among them, but still mostly really enjoyable. The live songs here just fucking fall apart, they're still energetic and you can hear the catchiness, but they're honestly just too loose and lo-fi to be enjoyable, to me at least. Spotty with some occasional punk brilliance.

Animal Collective & Vashti Bunyan - Prospect Hummer (2005)
>psychedelic folk

The vocals of Bunyan and the instrumentals of AnCo really do work very well, but the last two songs on this just kinda suck. They're not bad, just boring as hell. Luckily, the first two songs really are quite nice. "It's You" showcases one of my favorite things about acoustic AnCo, how they manage to create such booming soundscapes with just acoustic guitars. The title track just has a really pretty melody. Shame that the other two tracks just bring the whole thing down by a margin.

I have only listened to Barbaro (Non Troppo) by Present but I have to disagree. That thing sucked too much on Christian Vander's dick to be considered good. If you told me about Thinking Plague or Biota I would have agreed with you, but those are mere exceptions. Real prog belongs to the past and shall be buried in the '70s.

I haven't done any review for a long while so now while I have some free time:

0% - 青葉市子.
>minimalist nipponese folk

Mixed signals, it's a comfortable listen while also being sparse, personal and somewhat abstract.
The major flaw are the times when the alienating flow is interrupted, the songwriting a handful of times breaks into almost generic, more straight forward melodies. A few times this works, mostly it doesn't.

Considering the whole thing has a very uniform quality to it, tending all to blend together and form a flavor of folk like something strange lifeforms would play somewhere in a nearby nebula, it would be safe to assume this wouldn't be but a small setback. To my ears nonetheless these few gaffes break up the experience.

Maybe its because of how much the mystique of the thing drives it. Whenever something familiar comes in the charming feeling of being lost suffers considerably.
Enjoyable experience all in all but not perfect.

Unwound - New Plastic Ideas
I've realised something about Unwound and that is that they are at their best when they are playing instrumentals/have long stretches of instrumentalism in their tracks
This happens quite a few times on this album over hyear, ergo I quite like it
god damn their guitar/bass interaction is great

Sun Kil Moon - Ghosts of the Great Northern Highway
so Marky mark is famous for his sad folk songs for sad people right, part of why I like Rollercoaster and Benji so much is that this dimension is present there, and yeah, it's present here, but it feels a bit diluted from the very palpable sadness undercutting those albums
it was good, but it wasn't that great
basically another one of MK's family members needs to die for him to make another great album

I actually write it out every time (3x now), and I added Copenhagen Tapes which has the GOAT version of I Don't Need It To Rain.

>happy sad higher than lorca
>>
damn why can't all of Pastel Blues be as good as the the last two songs
>>
Best week of the year guys, whole city turns into a giant party. Am happy. Will get drunk for my daily friends.
(Terminus, ga jij naar de zomerfeesten? Kom ik je misschien tegen)

The songs on Lorca are very good, but the recordings are lackluster compared to the rest of his output.
The performances on Happy Sad easily dwarf that of Lorca; listen to Troubadour 1969 for the best recordings of Lorca's B sides.
The A side of Lorca feels a little unpolished as well, and it pretty much the absolute opposite of Starsailor's fast progressions, dwelling on ideas to the point where they start to lose interest.
It's still a phenomenal album by probably my favourite artist, I just don't consider it essential in his discography.

Great blogspot in general, by the way.

>>66476115

It's a pretty varied thing. Some songs are musique concrete, some are just minimalist piano, there's some spoken word, etc.

Definitely a unique couple of hours.

Don't underestimate the shittyness of Team Trash.
>>
>>66477272
idk we got a strong 80s/90s/00s/10s
also that team bonus will probably help too
tho the tago mago pan is disheartening, because if we get third then i'll probably be the one axed

Not to worry comrade, Redskins could get an even worse review, I have no idea how soul-punk will go down. Kinda surprised at the pan for Tago Mago as well, it's the least 'boring' Can album. It's the only one I really like from them actually.

so far this is like ska, but good. i'm liking it.
>>
>>66478270
Fair enough mate. I think it's just a difference in tastes, I get the same bored feeling with the instrumentation in Future Days. There's not enough repetition there for me and it just feels 'wanky' whereas I love the droney repetitiveness of Tago Mago. Can seem to be one of those bands where no one can agree which album is best.

no ur objectively wrong

unless you're talking about third wave ska

I'm just starting with japanese pop, can't really recommend you anything, in fact I came here a few editions back to ask for recommendations. Found that pastebin and figured out I might aswell share it with you. Looks like a pretty thorough list of albums.
>>66464205
Not my work, as I said, I found it lurking.
>>
>>66478487
yeah third wave. i'm a ska pleb.
>>66478480
yeah i find future days to be meditative in its drones.

i thought i was the only one...
>>
>>66478460
Nice.

>>66478507
you mean 2nd best

>>66478572
Redskins are a quite unique band but you should check out someone like The Specials if you want to hear some more ska, but good.
>>
>>66478507
Actually, Ege is the worst from the big 3. It's so bland and uninteresting compared to the other 2. Maybe i should listen to it again
>>
>>66478759
Maybe I'm a pleb, but... wait no I'm definitely a pleb. But I've always thought The Specials were kind of boring and overrated. I feel like the only worthwhile ska is the classic Jamaican stuff and a couple of ska punk groups.

>>66478800
AND YOU
YOU'RE LOSING
YOU'RE LOSING
...your taste
Idk the big three are pretty interchangeable quality-wise. I think Ege is kind of a nice mix of the styles on Future Days and Tago.

The Specials are aight, but The Selector is better

Generally I've grown out of them since high school, but I think Operation Ivy is a decent punk band. And Choking Victim is just so ridiculous that I love them. I'll check out The Selector.
