It's Harambe time.

Listen to your library, show off your backlog, babble about new music, tell us what you've been listening to today and what you will listen to in the following month, wonder if Jangle's Thrift Tourney ever existed (spooky), get dicks out for Harambe, and just let the good times flow.

Цyкop Бiлa Cмepть - Maнipнa Myзикa

A very strange, very creepy thing. This is a collection of unnerving Medieval-inspired chamber songs where everyone is playing just off enough to make it incredibly uncomfortable to listen to. On top of this, Svitlana Nianio, a woman with one of the most gorgeous voices I have heard, sings some rather unpleasant ethereal lullabies. Its' a very unique thing, and the members of Sugar White Death have definitely mastered the art of making unsettling things.

I thought it was amazing. If you liked Księżyc, you would probably like this.

I am now guilty of liking another avant-meme album.
>>

Just seems weird, why not have it starting at something like 2.5? Just at a glance a rating of 2.5 /5 makes me think an album isnt worthwhile. I'm not really having a go at you btw, I don't care about rating systems very much and my one's shite anyway.
>>
>>66451614
Originally the motivation was to have more different ratings in the positive direction
basically stole the system from SellMeAGod

But I noticed I really don't need that much differentiation, so yeah, in retrospective starting at 2.5 would have been a better decision

This album is downright gorgeous. The lo-fi and dreamy guitars are incredibly enjoyable, it feels as if they are taking you to a new world. each team has one person for one of the two tags

these two are against two people on another team, (for example team Misha and Term are against team Torts and Thomas)

the team with the better score averaged wins the round and advances
(bonus points will probably be involved for how well it fits the tag/mood)

>>
>>66452989
Bad music is fairly simple to make, even people without any music training can manage it.
>>
>>66452934
I don't understand why a 5 point scale is so hard for some people to implement. I always see the argument of "it's hard to differentiate levels of dislike" being thrown around, but that's pretty ridiculous to me.
Is it slightly below average? Give it a 2 stars.
Is it the worst thing you've ever heard, and has no merit whatsoever? Give it a 0.5.
It's as easy to differentiate between levels of dislike as it is likeness. Maybe it has super shitty lyrics but a few cool beats? Sounds like maybe a 1.5.
Throwing everything you don't want to listen to again into one category seems lazy and removes some level of critical analysis. Perhaps you'll find that when you use a full system you'll be more observant to details that you like/dislike to give an accurate rating.
It took me years to fold to having an RYM because I used a 10-point scale by 0.5 increments and couldn't figure out how to accurately transpose that onto RYM.
>>
>>66453071
why's it bad?
>>
>>66452000
dude self deprecation lmao

seriously not bad
>>
>>66453138
hm, I find it difficult to differentiate in both directions. But I just hardly have much negative emotions for albums I don't particularly like. Music rarely offends me. It's pretty much impossible to differntiate further. But more important it's completely useless doing so. I'm not rating albums for others to look at. so why should I bother differentiating between albums I have no intention to relisten?
I can't understand people who use a 20 point rating system or more. It seems so random if something is e.g. a 14 or a 15
I mean fine if you can do that, and find it helpful. But I just can't do it.

I liked the last one enough, so I guess I'm hyped. I'm really just marveling at the clip that DG spits out new music. They just never stop, and if the rumors about "On GP" are true (that it was recorded around the time of the Money Store), that would imply they don't even release everything they make. I find that pretty exciting.

Also the new music video for "Eh" was pretty cool.

1. Join RuTracker
2. Upload obscurities and download things and then seed them for a long time
3. Once you become a PU, post on the forums a lot and get a reputation as a "cool and knowledgeable guy"
4. Ask for an invite on the invite boards, and if you're considered cool enough, you might get one

As a note, Karagarga isn't very valuable unless you either make movies, write about obscure movies in a journal, or are a famous RYMer / LBer that wants to pad his ratings with "patrician movies". Maintaining a ratio is very hard on private trackers, and Karagarga is notorious for being extremely difficult to please.

If you only want to listen to one track, listen to Suicide.

I'm going to be honest with you. I don't like you. Your presence here ranges between mildly annoying and downright revolting for me and I'd enjoy my time here a lot more if you weren't here. You probably feel similarly about me and that's ok, I think I gave you a lot of reasons to feel that way. But even with all that I do not wish death or suffering upon you even though I did post such things, which I now regret. Ultimately I'm glad you're fine. You have problems, if that wasn't obvious before it certainly is now. I understand that your condition makes you act out in a certain way and how in turn your episodes make me and several others here (no doubt riddled with similar anxieties to yours) act, and I recognise that this exchange has a negative effect on all of us. I'll try to be more considerate from now on if you decide to stay. Please try to do the same. Either way I urge you to seek professional help. You need it.

so i started working on it two hours ago, i'm full of ideas and completely exhausted. i can tease you a small 30 second sample of what i've done, I'm in love with it desu.

im probably gonna play some "bass" guitar over some spots that feel a bit emptier, as well as contact my drum boy to record me some more stuff [what you hear is just a bunch of rejected takes for my album]. i also really wanna do some haino-esque reading/screaming over some of the stuff, i translated terminus' poetry into japanese to make it even more authentic/pretentious/cool, but that part isn't done yet.

I've seen the cunt be honest. I can die in peace.

Also today I went to a jazz show where a local quartet played The Shape Of Jazz to Come. Was disappointed. The bassist used a picked electric bass which ruined a lot for me and the horns were really low on the mix.
Then I discovered it was a double show, and the quartet up next was fuccen great. They incorporated Ornette songs into their suites and played absolutely out of their minds. Top 3 shows I've been to.

Most of my favorite artists have already kicked the bucket, so it really stings when one of the living ones passes on.

triangle if ya want some more recs hit me up

Chris Thompson - Chris Thompson (1973)
>contemporary folk, psychedelic folk

Very, very lovely psychedelic folk, kinda in the vein of a more freaked out Nick Drake. The main draw here is the guitar playing and the spooky, foreboding songwriting. "Young Lust" is the obvious low point here though, it's a weird break in the flow of really spooky and depressive folk songs, I'd compare it to "Diamonds in the Mine" offa Songs of Love and Hate. But besides that, and besides the fact that Thompson's voice is very generic, this is great.

3.5-

Alton Ellis - Sunday Coming (1970)
>reggae

Pleasant enough chilled-out reggae, but there are about 100 records that do this better. The major thing this is lacking is good riddims, for what is a good reggae album without good riddims? Well, a nice poppy soulalbum with some reggae influences. Nothing special at all, but it's really sunny and pleasant and there are some great hooks.

I think what you just said is incredibly selfish
someone with real pain, real suffering, appears before you and you shun them just because you don't want to deal with your own mental anguish?

I'd feel much more guilty if I was in a position to help someone like that and didn't.

It's the responsibility of whoever's around at that time in that moment to help someone in need. You have to be a little selfless sometimes. Take a punch to spare someone.

do you even understand what kind of mental state someone has to be in to consider taking their own life?

Talk about this with a psychiatrist. This is incredibly important. If you feel you need to deal with this alone, even more reason to speak with a professional. Worst case scenario, send a text to Crisis Text Line. I am being thoroughly honest, I have been through what you are dealing with. I wanted not to comment because I did not want to "feed into the attention", so to speak, but if actually committed, then please, go seek some fucking help, man. I cannot stress this enough.

Completely unrelated, I am increadibly drunk and can spell surprisingly well. This speak volumes for my English skills. AMA, although not really. What should I listen to while being this increaibly drunk? I usually stick to bluues and music that goes hard. What should I choose?

I think you're missing my point. I'm saying putting unexperienced people in that position in the first place is a HUGE HUGE asshole move.
There are professionals waiting 24/7 trained for this exact thing that you can talk to. This is what they're there for; so you don't call your ex crying and shoot yourself in the head because she couldn't talk you out of it.
This is not something that should be encouraged in any way.
I'm NOT suggesting that you do not try to help the person if the position is presented to you. Doing your best is the right thing to do, but shit like this can seriously damage good people with good intentions. This is a case where it is (seemingly) already over, and I'm rightfully letting him know what a fucking piece of shit he is to put that burden on us.

Does it help anyone to shame a person who just tried to commit suicide? Is the person attempting suicide in the right mental state to know that what they just did might be damaging to some people and will that have any positive side effect at all? I think it is an incredible burden to put on someone in a fragile mental state. I agree with your point but I do not think that it is the right time to make said point at all.

>>
>>66459218
I do understand what you're saying but I'm saying people in that state don't think logically.
As sucky as it is, when they're suicidal most people will rather call their ex than a trained medical professional, doesn't matter how little sense it makes.

and just because someone tried to commit suicide and didn't go through with it doesn't mean they're all fixed and bright eyed and you can go ahead and call them morons and get angry with them about not thinking of your feelings, and it certainly doesn't mean they won't do it again.

so why don't you suck it the fuck up, take a little mental beating, and don't yell at the guy who obviously isn't in a stable frame of mind.

of course they were reckless and selfish! what are you fucking stupid?
do you not understand that when you make the decision to take your own life it's not just a "wake up one day and I'm feelin' blue" type of thing, it's months and months if not years of depression and pain that lead up to it, and it doesn't stop afterwards. You may say that you will never try that again but that doesn't stop the actual mental trauma you've been going through.

imagine if you wake up after trying to commit suicide and failing and your buddy lashes out at you and calls you an asshole, yeah I'm sure you'd feel pretty fucking great.

Really? This guy who tried to take his own life, a clear volation of something instinctively human (to survice), is readily available and of sound mind, to realize that he is "fucking piece of shit" for crying out for help with what is a clear mental disorder or problem?

In the interest of fairness, unless you are unwilling to answer, which is competely alright, have you ever tried to end your own life?

Jangle is right in pointing out that constantly toying with your own life in front of people not experienced with that sort of situation is selfish. I am not disagreeing with that. What I find troubling is him being so aggressive with it. He is entitled to his viewpoint, of course, but it does not help the situation. Was it wrong of you to "brag" about taking your own life and being so upfront about committing suicide in this thread? Of course. But if this is the only place where you felt your cries for help would reach, then of course your turned to this place. Suicide is a last resort, it is not just something you do. I have personal experience with this, no matter how little it might be believed.

> It was selfish of him to go to daily and it's selfish of anyone to tell him to go the fuck away. It's not black and white, people.

of course it's selfish, and unwise to go to us.
but you don't verbally attack someone in such a fragile state like that. Exercise some forgiveness, believe it or not people are not fucking stupid, I'm sure shamepai knows this wasn't the place to come in retrospect.

This advice isn't for you, so I don't really care if you view it as too hostile or whatever. I'll abstain from answering your question about whether I've tried to end my own life, but I do have some experience with this and I believe what I'm saying is what needs to be heard.
I would like to stop talking about this now, I'm sure Shamepai will take whatever advice/counselling he wants.
