just started listening

what do you think?
>>
>>66461163
Very pleased with it, the rapping only really ruins wozard of iz and the neo psychedelic vibes work well.
>>
spotify finally got it

starting now

>album begins with coughing
>>
>>66461163
i think the song transitions are nice. very natural.
>>
>>66461233
yeah, im listening of spotify too. Classic Avalanches ambiance is to be expected.
>>
It doesn't have the same schizophrenic exuberance of Since I Left You. It's much more mellow, which you will either love or find tedious.

I dislike the rapping. Danny Brown and MF DOOM do not fit the energy The Avalanches are going for, especially when Danny is rapping about sex.
>>
>>66461163
I love it so much. It's a 10/10 from me, and I really wasn't expecting that much from it. I really love how cohesive it is, and how lovely the transitions are. It also takes my favorite aspects mood-wise from SILY and expands on them a lot.

Also the little details in there keep blowing my mind with each listen. They're so meticulous. As a producer, I must say, the avalanches have offered us two amazing achievements in recorded music.

>>66461337

I actually think the features work extremely well on this album. It's an album about embracing youthfulness and loving life, idk why celebrating sex seems out of place for you.
>>
>>66461471
the rapping is bad at times.

like really bad. almost kills the mood entirely.
>>
>>66461631

like when?
>>
Not a better album than SILY, but individual tracks are amongst their absloute best (IIWAF, Living Underwater, Sunshine).
>>
It stands next to SILY. Doesn't exceed it, but no one expected it to.
>>
>>66461688
>amongst their absolute best
>If I Was A Folkstar
wut
>>
>>66461163
It's a 8/10 sober and a 10/10 drunk.
>>
>>66461773
Not him but IIWAFS is the best track you uncultured swine.
>>
>>66462726
This is quite true.
*slurp slurp, mmmmmmm, beer*
>>
glad to see some love for this album. Most people have been hating it but man I really like it, very relaxing good feeling album.
>>
>>66461667
Wozard of Iz

that rap bit in the middle ruins the song desu
>>
>>66461688
This
>>
>>66465495
people are only hating it because its new. by the end of this year a lot of people will have come around on it.

As much as I love this album, I was disappointed in the features. Seriously, where the fuck are FJM and Ariel Pink? They're credited but I don't hear them anywhere.
>>
>>66465839

uh. no.

>My 16's and tail twelves
>Dick like water, reals in hell
>I sold dope, didn't stack up
>And I buy a berth from jail twelve
>>
>frankie sinatra was released to sell the album rather than this
http://www.thewas.xyz/
>>
>>66468220
Seriously, I was looking forward to hearing those two on the album so much. Especially since ILYH was my AOTY for 2015
>>
Great album. Even the Noisy Eater was fun.
>>
>>66461773
best track on album you pleb

fucking amazing
>>
>>66468220
>>66470122

father john misty is on saturday night inside out you retard
>>
Father John Misty isn't the one doing spoken word poetry. That's David Berman.
FJM is doing Beach Boys-esque textural vocals in the background of SNIO.
>>
I don't understand how fantano said I Wish I Was A Folkstar was forgetable, it's the most memorable song in the album. Also Noisy Eater felt like a MM Food track.
>>
HAAAAARRRRRRMMMMOOOOOOONNNNNNNYYYYY
>>
>Teardrops were standing in my eyes...!

fuck that got me
>>
>>66462726
But only since SILY is an 11/10 drunk
>>
>>66472649
best song
>>
>>66468498
It's not a bad rap per say, it just would have been so much more fitting on a different track.
>>
>>66472763
Yep, afdter like 4 playthroughs, Harmony is my new fav, such a feel good song.

Where though? I hear David Berman's spoken word stuff but I can't hear FJM at all. Is he doing the backing vocals?
>>
>>66473261
>>66472262
>>
>>66473322
>>66472262
If that's true I'm still disappointed. What's the point of bringing him in just to do backing vocals?
>>
10/10 AOTD desu
>>
>>66473401
According to the Beats1 interview, it was FJM's choice to do backing vocals.
>>
>>66473478
That's fair then I suppose. Just listening back on the song again and I can hear it now, but it's still very subtle. Also I'm still wondering about Ariel Pink on Live a Lifetime Love, unless he's just reduced to backing vocals too.
>>
>>66472516
>Also Noisy Eater felt like a MM Food track.
To me it felt more like a Gorillaz track, namely Superfast Jellyfish. It's a fun song for what it is, but I don't really think it fits.
>>
>>66473549
Ariel's vocals are there too in LALL and I believe also on Step Kids.

Personally, I have no problem with big names being used like this. I think it's sorta beautiful actually and fits into the theme/feel of The Avalanches and Wildflower. Having these famous artists being used as samples themselves, almost as equals, side by side with the forgotten and obscure samples of yesteryear.

Is it fair to call them features? No, but I don't think they were ever advertised as features, right? Either way, I felt that it would worth it to mention their presence anyway because they're new recordings made specifically for this album.

Thanks mate, and yeah, I do agree that there is some magic to having artists perform on the album like this, but when the track listing got leaked a while back and I saw all the features I got really excited, so it's shame they didn't live up to it. Oh well, the album is still a solid 9/10 for me anyway.

>Mmm yes I must say Frankie Sinatra is indubitably one of the most sublime works of plunderphonic sound I have ever heard. What's that Madame? Electro swing? Heavens, no! That is the dirge of the lowly troglodyte. It is far from the purview of the masterful composers collectively known as the Avalanches.
>>
>>66474209
no seriously, i don't even like the song, it's pretty bad, but i'd rather listen to it non stop for the rest of my life then have to have a single conversation with an insufferable faggot like you
>>
>>66468498
No, it ruined the song. It had an awesome beginning and could have had a beautiful, peaceful ending if Danny didn't start rapping about MUH DICK and MUH DRUGS.

That song makes me feel pretty despondent and depressed, but there's something so magically beautiful about it. I think it's because I'm losing that sort of love right now in my life and I wish I could go back.
