An overall album score isn't just (scores of individual songs added)/number of songs.

I don't like sunshine cause i just think it's annoying. It's a cool idea, and the first time i heard it i thought it would be one of my favorites on the album, but now i think the looping is just them stretching out one idea with a stupid gimmick for three minutes

personal opinion: On Avery Island was basically better than ITAOTS.
Not by a long run but it's better because ITAOTS sounds like On Avery Island in every way.
It's better produced but there's something missing from ITAOTS that's in On Avery Island
"Avery Island/April 1st" sucks ass tho.
This one probably has the greatest difference between the average score and personal score. but then again it's not really fair to judge this album as a sum of its parts but as what it manages to accomplish as an album

It recently has become one of my favorites from the album.
But I agree with you, that the album can't be judged by the sum of its parts, I think the glow pt.2 is a perfect example, that albums should be more than just a collection of good songs.
Been listening to it a lot recently, and actually just bought the vinyl+book, can't wait to listen to it

The contrast between Headless Horseman and My Roots is just annoying to me, i don't like how loud it is honestly. And the vocals at the start of the track are the only ones on the album that i do not like with the "my rooOoOOts are strONg and DEeeEEp." I love the second half of the track, though,

IMO instrumentation on On Avery Island is much richer and more complex, but I prefer ITAOTS because it's a little more folksy, minimalist, tighter, and it has a much stronger concurrent theme as opposed to On Avery Island.

and I completely understand where you're coming from. ITAOTS has a central theme of sorts. As if Mangum as an idea that needs to be birthed and he delivered to a near point.
OAI feels like a compilation of songs that were just stitched together, but I guess that's what I like about it. He made the album work together, especially near the end.
Yeah, the thing about ITAOTS is that it's basically "6 Beginner Chords Everyone Should Know: The Article: The Album". Its simplistic, minimal, and doesnt feel as if its lasting too long.
Its got a more welcoming vibe to it than OAI. OAI has a more of a "fuck you, here's some tracks about stalking and other creepy shit"
The same could be said about Swans in a manner of speaking.
ITAOTS is a very close second, but im a bitch butt boy for some god damn distortion or whatever fucking hits me when I turn it up in the car.
It's just a good album.

See, Paul's ability to come off as childish/playful/cheesily romantic is one of my favorite things about the Beatles. Especially in contrast to John's starkness & George's spirituality. 'Life goes on', man. Everybody's gotta realize, and he just describes the people going about their days.
And Martha is definitely a personal favorite. That classic, schmaltzy McCartney bounce is such a delight. Also catchy as a motherfucker, he's usually got such stellar vocal melodies.
The Beatles have a share of lesser songs, but I don't know if I can rate any song on this album below a 6/10, besides Do It in the Road. I guess Cry Baby Cry is the one that comes closest.

Fair opinion, I'm just not a huge fan of Paul's music. I mean yeah, life goes on and all that, but there's little depth there imo. I'd much prefer a song like Strawberry Fields to one like Penny Lane, Lucy in the Sky to When I'm Sixty-Four, Happiness is a Warm Gun to Martha My Dear, Sun King to She Came In Through the Bathroom Window, Rain to Hey Jude.

Fair. Yeah I've always been big on Paul's stuff. At least you can appreciate a gem like "Mother Nature's Son", though. I guess I get off on the fact that they had both, you know? The fact that all those songs WERE paired together, and the band (usually, of course) worked on them together.
Though to continue, I definitely consider a track like Let It Be to be one of my least favorites from them. And I find Hey Jude so similar to that that it's not far behind, but at least that one has a little more life and a universal sing-along that's....brighter(?) than Let It Be, I guess.
