>Generally speaking, there are a series of things in my life that I become obsessed with at any given time (during the making of Geidi Primes I was particularly influenced by my escape into science fiction and the study of the physical sciences). I guess that sounds weird but Halfaxa is sort of my ‘medieval’ album. I wanted to attempt to evoke the feeling of believing in God in a very Medieval Christian way. I wanted to capture the beauty of being in a beautiful cathedral and hearing reverbed (naturally), devotional, vocal music and really believing in heaven and hell, and that the art that you are experiencing (visually, architecturally, sonically etc) is related to a higher platonic, metaphysical space, or comes directly from it through the medium of the artistic prophet. Hildegard von Bingen is my idol right now, and I feel like she would be a good example of someone through whome God spoke and beautiful music was made via her body by a divine being (or so she claims, and I’d like to believe). I feel like art in the middle ages was always addressing something beyond earthly experience, and I want to do the same. But I wanted it to be vague as to what it is beyond earthly experience that is being addressed. And I wanted the music to feel really good addictive. I love music that is very smooth to the ears, and has lots of low frequencies as I find high frequencies very grating.

I really like Grimes, but the more I watch of her, the more convinced I become that she is some sort of an illusion. She is just to perfect for the musical/cultural slot she is filling. She seems like she was genetically designed at the Advanced Club Kid Research Facility.
Think about it: She's "white," but she has the perfect skin, height and elegant limbs of an Asian woman. Alternatively, her features (especially nose and eyes) would be completely natural looking on a woman with dark brown skin. Don't you think she'd make a GORGEOUS black woman? I do.
She is basically the simultaneous ideal of Asian, black and white people- but she happens to have very white skin, which makes her more widely advertisable. Her face might be a little narrow and pointy to make a classically beautiful Indian woman, or other near-eastern people, but I'll bet they would still relate to her if her skin were changed into some familiar color range. Personally, I like looking at white blonds, but I'm always suspicious of them. They're constantly up to some scheme or another. And almost never does it involve making me happier.

Nice try, but until you come up with an Indian girl who has the curves of a black girl, the complexion of an Asian girl, the voice of an Irish girl and the "F it - let's just screw things up" attitude of an American girl, I won't be buying your product. in the past, claire has talked about wanting to be a part of a cultural dialogue. to cement her art forever in that way. i have to wonder if she's dissatisfied in exactly the dialogue that it's sparked.
she's expressed disdain for meaningless things in the past. i wonder just how annoyed she is with the fact that the "cultural dialogue" that surrounds her art is about how she doesn't shave her legs, and the further she gets in her career the worse it gets. she poured her heart out and expressed her pain and in the end the prize she got was people only touching on the superficial and super shallow bits they can cling onto with grimes. and its not like she's been silent on it either, she's spoke out about it but everybody ignored her because they'd rather talk about how cute she is.
