Alright guys, so I came across this song a little while ago, and it seemed incredibly familiar to me, but I couldn't quite pin where I'd heard it. I've shown it to basically all the people I talk to about music, and all of them have said the same thing. Any ideas? Was it used on a TV show or something? Or am I / are all of my friends just absolutely crazy? Here's the song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BjSuEh-T9fw

It's very evocative of Baroque music, I think. Maybe you were thinking of something that Bach or some other Baroque composer wrote.

In the meantime I now have to go listen to Supper's Ready. There goes my next half hour, thanks OP.

Prelude of Suite No. 1 in G major, BWV 1007 for cello by Bach

I think i've heard THIS used in a movie. It was about sea exploration or something, I forget what it was called but I remember the movie itself. I'm pretty sure this pins it though, thanks a ton for solving this, it won't drive me mad anymore!

Meant to mention that there are interviews with Hackett about the recording of Foxtrot when the remasters got made where he mentions that it was inspired by that Bach piece:

That's incredibly interesting, and also makes a ton of sense.

As well as Bach Hackett is also a big fan of Francisco Tárrega and you can kinda hear that kinda "Memories of the Alhambra" thing in the intro to Blood On The Rooftops:

I can definitely hear the similarities. I also haven't checked out this album yet, this is a really nice track, thanks for sharing it. It's been added to my list of things to listen to. I'm starting to listen to Genesis album by album, just finished A Trick of the Tail a couple days ago. 'Entangled' is a really great song off that album.

Then you'd probably also enjoy The Geese & the Ghost by Anthony Phillips, Genesis original guitarist who was replaced at the same time as Phil Collins replaced John Mayhew as drummer:
