Alright, this might rustle some jimmies, but I just don't "get" Aphex Twin. I absolutely love Windowlicker, cherish Xtal, Heliospan, enjoy the Pac-Man songs, but most of his stuff is... ...just weird? Is his music really appreciated by his fans, or his popularity comes solely from his innovation/novelty/contribution to electronic music rather than most of his music per se?
I understand that the songs I mentioned are way more "accessible", but I am really trying to understand the appeal of most of his songs.
So do I
Thats exactly how I feel about him

His unique style is a part of it, I guess. Try SAW Vol II.

he's a classical minimalist composer with the attitude of a punk musician and the upbringing of the detroit techno scene
IDM is for weird people who like experimental music anon. If you keep listening you might eventually warm up to it an acquire a taste for it, but you don't seem to be very inclined towards that sort of thing (I for one have always sought out weird shit)
Also listen to Syro with headphones on.

the term is dumb but it is what it is, I can't think of any other label for this specific category of music that would allow other people to know what you're talking about
Drukqs is easier to listen to if you haven't already.
Imho everything from 93-01 is good to fucking stellar, but everything afterwards is half-arsed to fuck, and I know he perfectly aware of this as he's releasing album after album of old or unfinished tracks
