Currently i have almost 200gb of music and while theres no problem with my computer i do worry some day everything will crash and my complete perfectly organized personalized collection will be gone. so what do people use to back up everything? I only have around 200gb so getting something like a 2tb harddrive is just overkill when music is all i care about. Any good products? Would just a 256gb USB work?
I have almost 1 tb of music, divided in 3 hd
no backup
if it's gone, it's gone
just like real life

I got all my music on my internal hard drive on my desktop, I got it on an external USB hard drive that's connected to my router and I got it on my internal hard drive on my laptop. When I get new music I put it on my external hard drive that automatically synchronizes it with my laptop and desktop. I also got most of it either on CD or Amazon because that's how I buy music.
Not music related but
>tfw have 5.2k pictures of Afghan people
>tfw my USB can't handle it
Piece of shit writes that it can store 8gb yet it can't even store 7.5gb. I feel cheated

I had a PNY 128GB 3.0 flashdrive that had all my music which broke the other day. Feels bad man.

>5.2k pictures of Afghan people
is this some kind of code
>music is all i care about
>only has 200gb worth
apparently not fucker

yes. it's really cheese pizza
>>66241717
No I'm just obsessed for some weird reason. I thought about collecting pictures for India but realised it would be too much so I didn't get involved

this is gonna end up in some ylyl thread.
>>66241780
shit that's pretty neat
I'd love to have some of it if you feel like making a rar
for drawing references
You guys still have actual digital music stored as files on your computer? Really?
I'm just doing spotify and vinyl.
>>66241780
got one more for your collection
>>66241798
ok here's a section, turns out I actually have 5.4k
>>66241822
no bully pls this collection means a lot to me

*they're
i try to keep the sources of my music from physical copy (cds), i back up most of my music on an external hard drive, and i back up important shit (bootlegs ive recorded, rare cds, my uncle's band's stuff) on mega
if i find good deals on cds ive already pirated i buy them usually (like today i bought a copy of fear of music at goodwill for a dollar despite having a flac rip of it already)
Hard drives fail no matter what they are, be it flash drives, regular external/internal ones
If you don't have a stockpile of blank discs, you deserve to lose all your shit.

Files: free, no need for constant internet connection, editable tags, you can get pretty much all music ever recorded, no ads, no one collects your data
Streaming: The opposite of all that
If you use Spotify you just don't know too much music yet, otherwise you'd be annoyed by stuff that isn't there
>>66241924
No joke, make a rar, share it on /ic/
>>66241722
I meaning on my computer,I don't game or store movies or anything so basically all i have is the 200gb of music
>>66241601
I tend not to keep music for too long. If I fancy listening to an old album I like, I'll download it again, in advance but I try to just cycle new downloads and delete what I no longer want to keep.
>>66241968
Ok I'll try to do that. How many pictures do you recommend me putting?
>>66241924
>>66241924
jesus 5400 pics of afghans
the NSA must either love you or hate you
I have millions of songs on spotiys servers
>>66242030
depends how big the file is gonna get. how much space do the pictures take?
>>66241959
CD-Rs degrade over time much faster than mean time failure of hard disks.
Traditional hard disks are probably best for long term storage. But for normal backups a couple of USB flash drives (different manufacturers) will probably be sufficient.
>>66242030
idk
50? 500? 5000?
it's up to you
>>66242057
>2016
>using Spotify
jesus man i liked it for the novelty in like 2013 then immediately dropped it in favor of maintaining MY music collection like a normal person should
if you love a book you should just go and buy it instead of checking it out from the library every time you want to read it,same for music
>>66242059
I try to find high quality pictures, and some of them are very big, and I think the majority are PNG
>>66242065
If you don't take proper care of them and constantly use them, I have cd-r's that are 10-15 years old and they still work like they day I recorded on them.
>>66241601
in addition to being on my everyday computer, I've got a cheap computer hooked up and constantly running to be a central access hub/backup plan
>>66241959
don't ssds when they reach end of life just become read only?
>>66242164
just keep in mind that you want to end up with something a little smaller than the upload size limit of whatever upload/sharing site you use
>>66242377
Alright. So when I do it I just go to /ic/ and say, "hey guys I got all these pictures, wanna draw?"
Isn't that a bit awkward? I never posted there so I feel shy
>>66241601
On my laptop, on two hard drives on two separate computers, on my clip plus, on my ipod classic, and on a bunch of flash drives floating around in my desk.
Also, what is /mu/'s preferred method of ripping? I doubt we all use cd's just to Throw away later. and not everything is searchable by torrents.
>>66242065
If you dont get good quality blanks then yes they maybe will degrade.
