Best opener on an Album and why?
I'll go first, Disorder by Joy Division, the bass riff is incredible, the lyrics, guitar, drums, everything is so powerful and overwhelming, really sets up the album.
Love this one
BP starts out very intense. Same goes for the openers on GP and NotM.
Giving bad people good Ideas comes off very ear bending. Its very fucking metal and pretty much defines the album and band as a whole of what they represent in the current theme of the album and just there very own signature style finally being prestige

Atrocity Exhitbition is another good JD opener! Those drums, those haunting vocals. The whole song is genius but I feel like it doesn't really fit in Closer
i'd probably say atom heart mother suite, hearing that orchestra roar to life at the beginning is terrifyingly beautiful
>>66202634
the chick's vocals ruined it for me, not gonna lie.
>>66202534
can't deny that.

Concerning the UFO sighting near Highland, Illinois by Sufy
Chillingly beautiful piano that touches my soul every time, his voice is absolutely perfect (as always) 'or whaat it waaaaaaass'. 10/10 intro to a literal 10/10 album.
Gives me feels like no other.
>>66202495
How about Diamond Dogs? starts out with a weird 1984 inspired, surrealist style track then the words "This isn't rock and roll... this is genocide!"
>>66202495
Nice shirt logo
I will always feel the magic.
>>66202495
Personal favourites are Everything in its Right Place, Search and Destroy, Concerning the UFO Sighting, Alone Again Or, Roadrunner, Bring Da Ruckus, Gimme Shelter, Bridges and Balloons...
There are loads, that's off the top of my head, can't decide an absolute favourite,

Station to Station, Speed of Life, Changes, Five Years - Bowie nailed openers.
>>66202654
I'd agree, it is pretty good song, but doesn't fit Closer, Isolation would of made a better opener.
>>66203006
I never really warmed up to KOKF
>>66203032
What is your favorite opening track? What should I be listening to instead of ITAOTS? Let me know, Anon. I'm open to new things.
>>66202495
I want to like this album but I can't stand those terrible 80s drums.
Little Fury Things.

>average /mu/ poster is scared of an attempt at discussion
typical
>>66202495
Sympathy For The Devil is the best opener of all time
>>66203221
Don't you know there are only two acceptable kinds of threads on /mu/?
1) Lists of stuff you like
2) Lists of stuff you hate
>>66203201
Try to listen to live versions, the drums are much better, but its not for everyone.
I love how the beat hooks you right away and just continues to build for five minutes until exploding, and you realize they're putting a twist on bands like Slint. It's one of the few "crescendocore" type songs I'll never get sick of.
AY DON'T THINK
I DON'T WHAT WHAT YOU'RE DOIN
YOU STUPID TWAT

this is the superior sufjan opener
concerning the ufo is still great though
>>66203484
I can agree with that

DAMBALAAAAAAAAAAA

MBDTF, Master of Puppets, SAW 85-92, Illinois, Loveless, Spiderland, Modal Soul, Blue Scholars, OK Computer, Kid A, Untrue, Geogaddi, The Campfire Headphase, could go on more.
>>66203524
I second this

Definitely agree. Disorder is THE perfect opener.
Airbag on OK Computer sucks you Henry the Hoover on your dad's cock.
>>66204989
sucks you in like Henry The Hoover on your dad's cock I mean.
I tried to be funny for once and I fucked it up. Jesus christ.
>>66202495
In The Flowers is so fucking good
That opening guitar riff on Airbag never fails to give me goosebumps.

go back to /b/ then, plenty of memes for you to enjoy
Rest of the album might be a mixed bag, but the progression and vibe of this track are unreal. Progressing from Kanye's hook to the choir, then Chance's incredible verse popping up and the horns joining in, I just love it.
>>66203241
Vinum Sabbathi
Short and sweet, I think it's the perfect metal song. It's rough and ridiculously heavy.
I hated it the first time I heard it.
>>66207098
Have you heard the In The Company of Serpents cover? Slightly different, but still really good.
It lacks the leadin to Funeralopolis though, as it closes the album.
Its just so powerful. She screams so hard its almost chilling
