The manga came after the film. Anyway I like it. It's not perfect, and its got some weird plot holes/points that just get forgotten (Which are apparently covered in the prequel/sequel Noriko's Dinner Table), but it's definitely a solid film. Sion Sono is a pretty well regarded director as well.
It's well worth a watch at least.

I personally think we all do, at some point. Not leave metal, but open our mind to different stuff, different genres, different styles, different experiences. Lots of us cut our hairs (i also did) when it's time to get a serious job, or just because we just get tired of it. Lots of people stop looking like stereotypical metalheads and start looking more normal, more average. Whether it is because you have to or you want to, unless you're a metal musician that really need the long hair, leather & boots, most of us change our looks and "grow up".

But, for example, i now enjoy going out some weekend and dancing, partying, or going to a fest or a concert of other genres i didn't like before.
