I just got a job as sole drum line instructor at the high school where I used to be drum line captain. I've never administered any type of proper teaching session as an instructor, and I have warm up exercises for the kids but I'm wondering if I'm missing anything. Is there any essential thing I should do when giving instruction for the first time?

Too much info is never bad, just don't cram it all in one day.
Teaching is easy, getting them to stay interested and focused is all on your personality.

make up some exercises that use rudiments in a fun way. Coolest one I've used is 7/8 paradiddles, but depending on how good the kids are they might not do that. you can probably just google a bunch of em
