itt: we post our worst musical phase

>REALLY liking all of childish gambino's albums so much that i unironically considered getting a tattoo of his face.
>but it really was what got me into hip hop so not all that bad at all
>>
I remember liking death metal for a brief phase when I was about 13 - i.e. Slipknot and other major death metal bands.

Looking back it was cringe worthy. At least I never adopted the metal sub-culture and it was a brief phase.

I listened to Eminem exclusively when I was in 8th grade. I knew every word and I thought I was so edgy.

Similarly to OP, it got me into hip-hop, so it could've been worse.

I became the literal embodiment of lewronggeneration in 7th grade and was a general ass to people

Got me into music as a whole, but God I was a prick
>>
Being an OFWGKTA stan, even typing that word makes me cringe so hard. I went around drawing inverted crosses in textbooks etc
>>
I was heavily into scene music and crabcore shit back in the day and it makes me cringe now. That shit was awful

After that I went through an EDM kiddie phase too. Those were dark times

At least No Doubt is good. And Peaches by Presidents of the USA is nostalgia-core for me

90% of the appeal was me wanting to bang Gwen Stefani, in retrospect. Catchy fuckin' songs tho. Spiderwebs, Just a girl, etc.

I'm convinced Gwen Stefani has found the fountain of youth along with MIA and Sufjan. And No Doubt is definitely fun as hell

From 15-17 I was your typical wrong generation dadrock worshipper and listened to the Beatles, Queen, and Pink Floyd pretty much exclusively during those years.

They're still great bands but I never listen to them now becuase I burned out on them

I used to like Blink-182 because a couple of kids at my bus stop I knew liked them and I wanted to be cool like them. It was a dumb decision I made, although I can't say it didn't propel my interest in punk music. When people are saying just be yourself, you should probably follow that advice to spare your sanity. Although I can't really shake the feeling that I was already bound to discover more punk music due to me already liking edgy stuff like MCR and Linkin Park, and the fact that I got back into punk rock after trying to move away from it for 2 years because of specific albums that were shared on /mu/.
>>

It was all very cringy because i had next to no confidence to pull off this image and so alot of people would mock me like ask me to "spit some rhymes" for them, break dance or come up to me and be like "yo yo whusup mah nigga whuz gud". 9th Grade - I was into Linkin Park & Fort Minor. Also into popular rap of the time (think 08-09), & Korn.

Cringing as I type this. Not that they were bad bands, but that I thought they were cool and badass. 90% of Linkin Park & Fort Minor is whining, Korn is White Trash & the rap stuff was sub Ghetto-tier.

But this phase made me learn about Golden-age hip-hop, R&B & Classic Rock, so not all was lost.

i used to be super "scene" in my tweens/early teens. eyeliner, fucking ridiculous hair that i dyed a different color as often as possible, myspace, i even wore fucking cat ears occasionally. all the usual hallmarks. also, like all the other scene kids hated me.

relating to music, i naturally listened to a bunch of edgy pop-punk, metalcore, post-hardcore, "emo" music. in particular i fucking loved From First to Last. the singer, Sonny Moore (who we now know as Skrillex) was my fucking idol (pic related). i even wrote cringy "fanfictions" about him which i refuse to go back and read.

I worshiped Trent Reznor like he was a god and still know all of the words to his music and documentaries-worth of knowledge pertaining to Nine Inch Nails because it truly never left me. I can still have fanboy-level conversations about his music even if I only hear it once a month.

Now Reznor has been replaced with Daniel Lopatin, who I don't read interviews with or stories about and don't follow on social media to keep myself from idolizing him to the point where I can't be critical of his music or listen to anything else. That being said, I spent an obscene amount of money on some of his CDr's, want to get a Replica tattoo (be honest, most people wouldn't know what it is), and moderate his subreddit.

My parents were really religious. Like, protestant fundamentalist evangelicals religious.

Basically the only music I was allowed to listen to as a kid was praise and worship stuff, christian rock, and other christianified genres. I was homeschooled to boot so when I was older (around 16) and wanted to listen to the music normal people listened to I had no idea what to look for. I bought some pretty cringy albums then too based on stuff I saw on vh1 or heard on the radio ( nickleback or greenday for example).

This would probably represent my cringe right here, for a while I tried so hard to be "patrician", I hated half of the shit I was listening to (I even listened to tmr like 20 times so I could claim I actually liked it), until I realized that there was no purpose in having "refined" tastes, and the only thing with music that matters is how much you like and enjoy it. I'm glad I learned my lesson and got out of that shit mentality though, I can't imagine listening to half of the garbage (imo) I listened to again.

FLCL has a bomb ass soundtrack, especially OST 3. I listen to that shit all the time and I'm usually not a fan of listening to soundtracks.

I used to listen to the album Sandstorm by Darude.

I thought the track The Drums of New York was really cool. I still contend that it's not all that bad.

I paid 50 bucks for Skyramps, 25 for Total System Point Never, and I paid a good amount for some tapes and other CDrs. I never spend that much on music.

I used to listen to Coldplay, regret it every day

Accidentally ordered a soulja boy cd and when it came in from the mail I liked it amazingly enough. Ended up listening to it non stop for a month. Admittedly the most cringe I've ever done

In late middle school and about until the middle of high school I was a classic wrong generation person that only listened to Queen and the Beatles and such and disliked most modern music on principle. I did like a few things here and there though which helped me when I got out of that phase.

Later on I was really into metal but I don't really consider that all that cringey as I wasn't a stereotypical metalhead or anything. And I had a few non-metal stuff I loved too and like the ones I talked about above they helped expand my taste later when I did start looking for other music.

Y'all niggas don't know real cringe

>Unironically singing along to Foreigner's "Cold as Ice" when it comes on the radio in front of this hot blonde that invited you to her place to do homework, then started talking to you about boys, and your friend wanted to fuck her so it was hands off, plus you wouldn't have a chance with her anyway, plus she was kinda dumb. Homework/study/whatever meeting isn't going great, so Foreigner comes on the radio and to snap the tension you mumble a few lines along with it. Oh, and your singing voice sucks. MFW

Oh god, the Nickelback of pop punk. Dreadfully boring stuff. Ocean Avenue is a modern classic though I admit.
>>
>>65973354
Yeah even today i still think they aren't that bad, not the best but not the worst...

Ocean Avenue was a nice album.

I went through a phase where I listened exclusively to albums recommended to me by an anonymous music board. I was quickly embarrassed by my old music taste, instead of looking back at it as important to my development as a musician. I felt like I was better than everyone else because I heard a more obscure album and pretended to like it. I quickly realized that I had become more interested in this board than music, and I quickly left it in order to regain the passion I once had for music.

Unironically listened to BOTDF in 8th grade to try to get this one girl I liked to think I was cool. Unfortunately, I started listening shortly before she stopped. I sang one of their "songs" for her one day near the end of the school year. Partway into it I saw she had a weird look on her face. I looked down and saw I had oceans of spaghetti dropping from my pockets. I stopped about halfway into the song and finally noticed there were about 40 other people present. The hallway was still and dead-silent for about 30 seconds before she called me a fag, followed by everyone laughing. I was neck deep in spaghetti at this time and the fat mexican scene girl down the hall cheered me on for an encore. I spent most of next period crying in the bathroom. I went home and did a system reset on my MP3 player so as to purge the unholy filth from its once holy chambers. To this day, spaghetti still dribbles from my pockets when I think of it, and I still can't look her in the eye.
