Do hip-hop fans actually find this impressive?
niggers find shoes, malt liquor, and firearms impressive
rap music is their opiate
The production, story behind the album and samples make it easily a top 5 all-time beat tape.
8.5/10

>tfw Welcome to the Show
>>65864507
idk, but I'm impressed I saw him twice live
>>65864556
>The production
it's just a collection of beats with some samples.
>story behind the album
has nothing to do with the actual music
>samples
the sampling on Donuts is not very special.
>beat tape
why are "beats" considered good compared to actual compositions?
>>65864656
Why are his "beats" considered good? Because they sound good
You're saying the story behind the album doesn't matter in the end, the music you're hearing is what matters. Isn't that a little inconsistent with your last point?
>>65864556
i shouldn't have to read a wikipedia page about the story behind an album to like it
>>65864902
i loved it before knowing the story
of course learning about the story didn't change my opinion of the music itself, but i guess it made me like the idea of the album a bit more
>>65864862
>Because they sound good
great argument
>le music is subjective
cancer
>Isn't that a little inconsistent with your last point?
no?
>>65864604
Tfw the outro loops back to the intro
its a 6/10 album. contains some of dilla's worst production but its still really good

Why should the fact that sounds are sampled from elsewhere make the music any less of a jam
don't fucking tell me "two can win" isn't one of the most well crafted hip hop beats of all time
>>65864507
1/10
your thread is not impressive.
create something more impressive biatch
>>65864507
Do anybody actually find this impressive?
>>65865181
it's not about WHERE they're sampled from, it's about HOW they're sampled. he literally just loops pieces of them over a basic drumbeat and occasionally changes the pitch.
>>65865232
you should try it.
it's easy AF. you'll get rich and famous in no time
>>65865009
using le n then referring to something as cancer is a bit ironic
you have bad taste
kill yourself
>>65865232
Yeah I see that. Not all that detailed. Still, it sounds great to me, and that's ultimately what matters to me when I'm listening to it. There are other producers who use a similar method it ends up sounding a lot worse.
>>65865196
Best of its kind
>>65864656
>hurr duur Donuts is just beats with some samples i'm so cool I'm just gonna off-handedly dismiss this classic album on /mu/ why are "beats" considered good compared to MUH CUMPISSITIONS
>>65865232
stop whitesplaining J Dilla's craft
if it's so easy go make a classic record with a tribe called quest
>>65866024
>whitesplaining
I like hip hop but I always found this album annoying. Something is missing with J dilla in my opinion. He's not groovie or funky or interesting enough. Many times his beats are going absolutely nowhere. But that's just me.
>>65866024
>wake up
>realize Phife Dawg is still dead
>cry a bit, and go back to sleep
;_;
he had balls to name his album after the thing that killed big pun
>it's just a collection of beats with some samples.
This is how you know OP doesn't understand the album, because this describes literally every single "beat album" EXCEPT Donuts.
only white fans praise it.
still a good album though.
>>65864902
ur opinion sucks
>>65866306
First sentence not at all true
>>65866306
>only white fans praise it.
utter fucking horseshit, and even if it were true (which it absolutely isn't) it's still a work of art created by a black man so this wouldn't even fucking mean anything.
>>65864507
I only like J Dilla's story from Common's Rewind That. That song is one of the best tracks I heard recently.
>>65866643
Motherfucking this

People are going to say this after 10 years when Black Star and David Bowie become forgotten...
>>65864507
why the fuck would someone who isnt a hip hop fan like j dilla?
>>65865009
music IS subjective though. I'm sure some of the genres you like aren't going to be the same that I like. And if you say that your objective opinion is the right one, but mine is the wrong one, than we just even further proved subjectivity.
