Because the band I was in needed a bassist. I was playing auxiliary instruments, (percussion, keys, etc.). Bass player split. I knew enough to hold down the fort. Eventually fell in love. Been playing for about 6 years now.
>>
True Story:
I played guitar. Wasn't phenomenal, but I could hold my own among decent players. One day, a friend who played at a church called me in a bit of a panic.
>h-hey anon, our bass player quit, and we need somebody for tomorrow, you can play bass right?
>well, actually, i...
>and the church will pay you $350
>yes. yes, i play bass
I borrowed a bass from another friend, drove an hour to the church, faked it, got paid. They asked me to keep coming back util they found a replacement. Kept getting paid. Actually started to enjoy it. Used some of the money I made to buy my own bass and amp. Been playing ever since.

I had been playing guitar for 8 years as a percussive acoustic player and I figured I'd also be a good bass player
Considering percussive acoustic style is all finger picking, rhythmic playing, and slapping it worked out really well

Also acoustic guitar > electric guitar > banjo > electric bass > acoustic bass

There's a part in Majora's Mask where you jam with this dude, and as a kid I thought he was cool and that bass sounded cool. It also seemed less intimidating than a 6-string guitar, so I got interested in learning to play and my dad bought me my first bass when I was like 11.

I started off playing guitar about 10 years ago and about a year or so into it I got a band together with 2 other guitar players and a drummer, and we would switch off playing bass. Ended up really liking it and picked up a bass when I could afford it and took it as a second instrument. I played bass in a jazz band in high school and continued on playing jazz through college. I just generally find it a lot more interesting to play, and my playing style generally fits more for playing bass than it does guitar.

And of course, it's almost too easy to find people to jam with as a bass player.

i played guitar really badly and my friend wanted to form a band and i told her i could play bass and she was like "you play bass?" and i said "no i dont. its fine" and put my meager savings into the shittiest starter bass + amp i could find and learned how to play it well enough to have fun playing whatever fun songs she wrote. i havent played in a few years but shes in an emo band in san jose now thats pretty neat and its cool to have been part of her development as a musician but playing any guitar is definitely not where i belong myself, i just play the accordion now and its a lot more fun and im better at it :)

This album. I LOVE Geddy Lee. Rush's entire catalogue inspired me to play bass and guitar, but this one... the arrangement, the tone, it compelled me to pick up bass and learn how to play it. Of course, I ended up really liking the instrument and getting comfortable sitting in a mix, and I branched out to other styles. But fuckin' Rush, man

I play the cello- people kept telling me that bass was "like the cello, except sideways!!!11", so I decided to buy one and start learning.

People play instruments for producing sounds, and select the instruments for the sound they play.

Players to play instrument to, hit the strings, blow the wind instrument, and etc.. and etc..., thats why you usually dont see deaf people playing instruments
>>
>>65879110
yeah but you would expect for bass players to be more common since bass is involved in pretty much every genre and so easy to play
>>
>>65879131
>and so easy to play
How the hell its so easy since its the same instrument but just another range?

Its like saying alto saxophone is easier to play than bass saxophone
>>
>>65879160
it's played slower (because there's no point in playing bass fast)
more space between strings
pretty much impossible to sound bad no matter what notes you play
some techniques are hard though but it's generally easy
>>
>>65879131
I could venture a guess that a lot of guitarists don't play in a band. It's certainly less fun to play bass by yourself than it is guitar. It's also easier to multitask on a guitar if you're playing by yourself. From these conclusions, we can draw that people could be more inclined to pick up a guitar.

Actually a octo-subcontrabass saxophone is harder to play than other saxophones, but thats is a wind instrument you have to blow and not a string one.

But yes you are right, electric guitar, electric bass guitar arent different instruments.

If I transpose the piano 2 octaves up as some example, I wont have a new instrument
