STORYTIME
>this is a lifetime project i've worked on with another dude called vanni
>we met ten years ago and became fast friends
>we enjoyed the same kind of shit like joanna newsom and lubos fiser
>we formed a band with some other dudes
>me and vanni sucked as players but wanted to songwrite and carefully plan how the songs should sound like
>the rest of the band were great players but more focused on improvisational skills and jamming
>vanni was the sole composer at the time and grew frustrated and deserted the band
>we had a fight and our friendship ended that night
>as no one in the band had any songwriting skills, i felt i had to step up
>i always saw vanni's songwriting as god tier
>began working hard on writing songs trying to get to his level. could never do it
>dedicated my entire free time to songwriting
>presented my best ones to the band, they all liked them
>we never rehearse them, rehearsal consists mostly of jams and improvs
>when some catchy riff turns up in those jam sessions I write them down to develop
>go home and work hard on them
>lose lots of hours of sleep over it to try to finish on time for the next rehearsal giving enough time for each band member to learn his parts
>we never rehearse them, rehearsal consists mostly of jams and improvs
>this vicious cicle goes on for two years
>i now understand vanni
>leave the band
>forget all about music, life goes on
>years go by and i hear from vanni. we make our peace
>we become fast friends
>we still enjoy the same kind of shit like joanna newsom and lubos fiser
>one day the idea of forming another band comes up
>everybody is older now, probably more responsible
>I show him my songs and he absolutely loves them. he tells me i became a better songwriter than he is
>even though i disagree that was very important to me
(continued)
>>65850826
>we get in touch with the former band members and they agree to play exactly what we write, no jams, no improvs
>me and vanni furiously revamp and develop our old songs
>we never rehearse them, rehearsal consists mostly of jams and improvs
>me and vanni look at each other and just say: "fuck it"
>they might be good players and good singers but we will never make the same mistake we did in the past
>decide we will take matters into our own hands and record this fucking album ourselves and stop depending on others
>we suck as players but we will do it our way, with crappy equipments and instruments and no recording skills to speak of
>even if the results are ridiculous we are driven to get some closure on this chapter of our lives
>meet every sunday for two years and songwrite and furiously record take after take until we get one that is not disgustingly bad
>release it and hear from former bands how much they liked it and wished they could had been a part of it
so here it is, /mu/. this is a piece of my soul, a meta commentary on my friendship with vanni and the sum of everything i have in me musicwise. this is my best shot and even if it's not professional, i'm fucking proud of it

still, good work on the music. it's excellent.
>>65855233
Not gonna lie, I opened this up to hate on it, but I actually liked it. I think your artwork and aesthetic contradicts the music, though. I'd go with a more relatable look. Your music has a nostalgic, kind of sunny vibe, and that seems like a better direction for the artwork honestly.

needs a LOT of work imo. production and songwriting is pretty bad. sounds amateurish.
but you also have a lot of potential. just a long way to go. i'd keep working at it 'cuz i see signs that you could develop a kind of cool style, but you need to work at it more and maybe listen to better music.
>>65856153
The painting has become a joke on /lit/ because so many public domain novels use it as their book cover because the publisher thinks it's appropriate to anything ever. It's not a bad painting or anything, but just a polite suggestion: avoid from using it.

it's almost like a waste of music to be pair decent tunes with such bad art

should I keep singings or should I just make another good instrumental album?
Also, I don't want to turn these threads into a personal blog, but today's menu is home baked pizza. I will return with a full thesis on the pizza and what made it good/bad. (will probably come with a pic too)

holy shit I love this way too much, it all is just too comfy to be real. The guitar is really good, and your vocals kind of remind me of Beat Happening, or early The Primitives (good twee stuff) I can't wait to hear more stuff like this (weren't you working on a new EP?)
SORRY FOR EVERYONE I COULDN'T GIVE FEEDBACK TO, I REALLY HAVE TO LEAVE NOW
>>65861011
>should I keep singings or should I just make another good instrumental album?
i think you should just try to make an album with both in it and see how it turns out.
in my first album there were 9 tracks and i only sang in 2 aswell
>I just recorded this, and I am really unsure if it's good or not
the singing is decent and fits the vibe so i personally got nothing to complain about
>weren't you working on a new EP?
yeah. the ep is going to cointain more purely electronic stuff and will be themed thing where i thought of the titles first and wrote the songs with that in mind. sadly no singing because i can't write lyrics like this.
Also, ironically i just listened to some of the primitives stuff today for the first time and i like it a lot
Thanks a lot, glad you like it and good luck with the pizza!

80s , electronic synth type music, fast rather than slow/ambient.
80% of it was done/programmed on a Roland JD-XI and just recorded straight from it with some live track manipulation and switching as it recorded.
