Clapton was amazing in bands but as soon as he went solo he became extremely dull. He's both underrated and overrated.

If you want people to get into Clapton's music then you should talk about Cream, John Mayall & the Blues Breakers, Blind Faith, The Yardbirds and Derek and the Dominos. If you talk about Clapton without mentioning those bands people will just shit on his terrible solo work.
