My favorite punk release of the time frame referenced in the topic is Black Flag's Nervous Breakdown. Quick, to the point, my first punk experience and it stuck with me. It's an EP though not an album.

My favorite punk album is Nausea's Extinction. Great crust punk album with the perfect amount of elements from metal, punk, and anarcho/post-punk. But it came out in 1990.

Sorry I suck at following topic rules.

I hate the label "punk" to describe the Dead Kennedys, but they are the best band to ever come out of that scene.
>>
>>65741245
wrong

Pink Flag my man
>>
>>65740547
This for me too I don't think any other album they made or any other album out of punk is even close to as good.

If I absolutely had to pick one it would probably be this. I think it can be argued that this is the most influential hardcore punk release ever.

Dead Kennedy's are much more of a 'punk' band than the tripe that's often quoted as more relevant than them. Wouldn't let the general perception of punk cloud the genuine punk spirit that DK fully embodied.

>>65740547
Mine would probably be between this, Blag Flag's first four years compilation, Minor Threat discog and Fugazi's 13 songs.
NOBODY mentions I Against I and I think it's a desperately overlooked album.
It's nowhere near as fast as their s/t - but it's so hella groovy and dancable, such a good album. You've never heard punk and reggae come together in songs like this before.
>>
>>65741761
Well, it was still definitely a punk album. It just elevated the genre.

Crass make every other punk band look like pure unadulterated shit. Their entire discog is fantastic, but "Feeding of the 5000", "Penis Envy" and "Christ" are really just superb.

I haven't seen any other rock band, never mind a punk band, so perfectly match atmosphere, lyrics, musicianship, avant cred, punk cred, and energy. Fuck I love this band.
>>
>>65743645
Crass are fucking dogshit m8

anarcho punk hands down worst type of punk
>>
>>65743645
they're an alright band but their politics are so dumb.
>>
>>65743781
It features better songwriting without compromising the punk energy. It must be shit.

>>65743822
Meh, don't go to a rock band to get your politics, but they're probably the best leftists in rock.
>>
>>65743868
Crass' song writing is basic as fuck. Literally all of their contemporaries are better.
>>
>>65743822
Left wing macho street fighters willing to kick arse
They said because of racism they'd come out on the street
It was just a form of fascism for the socialist elite
Bigotry and blindness, a Marxist con
Another clever trick to keep us all in line
>>
>>65743926
I was speaking of Anarcho-punk in general, the genre which resisted the trends of the time for simpler songwriting (the ramones, black flag), poppier songwriting (the descendents), or both (buzzcocks).

And I don't think I've heard better, almost modernist, use of noise, feedback, and collage in punk. A band proud to be based out of both out of the hardcore and the avant garde.
