they just stop doing catchy tunes/straightforward pop friendly songs with a lot of authenticity on 'the queen is dead' to be choosing a more bland atmospheric, dark songwriting approach. it sucks

i'm not. animal collective is /mu/ core.
and there's nothing wrong about writing pop tunes. they just drop the whole appeal of the band to be doing 'muh atmosphere' sounds. i didn't like it

I don't like the beatles in the first place. But taking your argument, I'd probably wouldn't mind if they decided to make something different, as long as they did it good and in an authentic way. In this case, The Smiths had failed imo.
