Hello friends, this is a thread for experimental music discussion. To clarify: Noise, drone, electroacoustic, free improvisation, futurism, indeterminacy, musique concrete, sound collage, and all that good stuff.
What have you been listening to? What have you been making? Movie and literature recommendations, concert experiences, gear, etc. are all welcome

>IGNORE THE FUCKING TROLLS EDITION
does anyone have drone thats nice and long and is just straight tones or sine waves or whatever
like time machines
Can anyone recc some recordings of sonic installation pieces?

>"Fence, Amargosa Desert" is a wind-activated sound installation made from 200 glass bottles found in Rhyolite, Nevada. The clear and green bottles, known to have been left there by gold miners, are hung on an old wire fence to catch the wind. The fence was created by Chris Kallmyer in summer 2010
Currently listening to pic related and it's pretty nice

i still want it to be good tho senpai
What's that album with the pink/red cover and the square on it? It's like high pitched noise followed by silence?
>>65574648
It's part of a style of improvised music which emerged last decade.
>>65574826
But what's it called? I forget the album name.

Why even bother. It's all about being there and experiencing it live. Like, half the point of most modern art is the performance aspect.

I find it odd that there isn't a larger amount of dvd releases of this stuff. Then again it seems like the dvds sell worse then the cds and are often quite cheap on discogs, I got my copy of this one for $4 and it's still cheap on discogs.

Kind of the opposite of nice, this one is one long track that unintentionally changes throughout somewhat and is physically painful to listen to at a decent volume level.

Random Recommendation:
If you haven't listened to Ground Zero, then you should. Consume Red is an awesome experience, and Revolutionary Pekinese Opera is one of the best-paced albums I've ever heard.
A request I have - can anyone point me towards some other songs/albums where the sine wave is a major feature, but not the main one? - like in 'Lost in the Rain' by Otomo Yoshihide's New Jazz Orchestra.

Any release with Satchiko M will provide. Check out Erstwhile records' Erstlive 005 with Satchiko M, Keith Rowe and Toshimaru Nakamura. Awesome release and there's three discs! It's on soulseek

>>65583450
this is fantastic i'm loving it.
i mean, most eai that i've heard has gone to a lot of effort not to be melodic or predictable in it's progression - which is exactly what makes this track so good. have you listened to duos for doris? i think its pretty atmospheric. https://mega.nz/#!5dJVQBjQ!fwu3NFd2-283z1PxddCvI1vQJyk1h9b1Fokz797nIIQ

This mentality is killing experimental music.
>>65583450
This is pretty good
>>65585019
The truth is killing experimental music? Probably.
Can someone here post glorybox's collage from what.cd ? I don't have a what.cd account anymore.

big fan of both rowe and tilbury.

it's got tilbury and sachiko m from good morning good night, and i honestly prefer this to that album

fuck off.

what i said was:
"calm down dude this is why people laugh at these threads.."

>>65585914
Youre a huge faggot then.
>>65585941
lol rekt
drone: ableton live - operator
noise: open a track or do a field recording with ableton live > saturator
This is "experimental" music. I'm not suprised artists in these genres are so prolific.

>when you cant argue to save your life but still reply
epin
Imagine how sad your life must be if you have to pretend to enjoy "music" like noise and EAI so you can feel superior to normal people. It seems laughable at first, but it's actually tragic.
>>65586333
You're completely right, the people who "enjoy" this "music" just stopped listening to Death Grips and Swans a week ago and now think they're music experts because they listen to one guy pressing a button on a computer for one hour.
Currently working through Whitehouse's discography. I'm loving the lyrics and how real the rage is in the delivery. Also, how they seem to keep it vivid and interesting with the synth.
Any recs for more stuff similar? even if it isnt power electronics. just stuff with that kind of RAAGWe.
>>65586884
there's a doc i watched once called "people who do noise". I don't remember if what I saw was particularly good or not, but maybe it would be better to try and educate yourself on the subject instead of drawing haphazard conclusions and bitching about it.
Marathoning her discography today.

>"I like real experimnetal music, not that lazy talent less drone or ambient crap! Death Grips, Anco, the list goes on!"
>>65588871
You didn't get the point.
>>65586884
>he thinks death grips and swans isn't just one guy pressing a button on a computer for one hour
>>65589352
Any genre is easy to make if you don't care about the quality. I can strum on my guitar some and sing poorly, bam there's a lo fi indie album, it's good and not like that untalented experimental crap!
>>65589486
the difference is that no one consider lo-fi indie "experimental" music....
>>65589524
I never said it was.
>>65585560
Don't get hung up on semantics. You know what he means by "experimental".
The OP is trying to encourage discussion of all abnormal, experimental, avant-garde, and otherwise interesting but unpopular musics.
>>65589622
Fug, didn't mean to add the "s" to the end of "music" there. I hate it when people do that. Sounds pretentious as all get out.
>>65579156
Nope.

How fucking dense are you?

This bothered be more than seeing the word "musics" but it's honestly not a big deal, I'm just being nitpicky and jaded.

Philip Best, I'm sure you know, was a member of Whitehouse. After he left, he made his own 'group' with his wife. It's called "Consumer Electronics." From what I've listened to, I honestly don't like it all that much. It's dirty compared to Whitehouse in my eyes. But there is one particular song that I kept listening to by them that I really do like.
A lot of flashing in the video, by the way:

I can't tell if it's good or not yet because I'm only able to sample it through some shitty earbuds, but instrumentally it sounds like a lo-fi Person Pitch mixed a little bit with The Books and early Bibio. this is definitely going in my backlog, thanks anon.
