this, anyone who assigns numbers to art with little to no indication of what it was that they saw in the respective piece has no business telling people what to listen to

some of Scaruffi's lists are cool but he's blinded by a lot of things, plus his rating system is inherently flawed. i feel sad for anyone who thinks that Aqua - Aquarium is even comparable to albums like Sgt. Pepper's or Pet Sounds

unlike Scaruffi, Bangs writes his opinions on music in an entertaining fashion without letting you simply skip to the score to decide if an artist is "patrician" or "pleb"

it's nice to see someone who doesn't ignore the Beatles, Dylan, or the Who, but this dude is pretty fucking Rolling Stone-esque in his picks. Beefheart doesn't appear for a while, no Robert Wyatt, no Van Morrison, Tim Buckley is also too far down. Just not very interesting, and I happen to be someone who already dislikes Scaruffi.

The fact that so many books still name the Beatles as "the greatest or most significant or most influential" rock band ever only tells you how far rock music still is ...
