this shit goes hard

proto-vaporwave
>tfw your mind goes blank
chopped and screwed houston hip hop is my favorite and DJ screw is great. I love that tape. Its nearly flawless

>>65495837
prove me wrong
protip you can't
>>65494836
listened to it the first time last night .wow
>>65494836
Memories of getting high with my friends and listening to this all the time during highschool
where did the times go
hard to find another album where the tracks are so heavily layered.
>>65496390
seamless too. its actually quite amazing that it can do what its doing without feeling overbearing.
all his tapes are the same
What non-screw releases do i need from the screwed up click? got hours and hours of screw downloaded by now and i think its time i branch out
>>65496595
big moe
so is vol 2 better than the first one or what
>>65496595
big mello - wegonefunkwitchamind
fat pat - ghetto dreams
botany boyz - thought of many wayz
big moe - city of syrup
big pokey - hardest pit in the litter
lil keke - dont mess wit texas
big hawk - under hawk's wings
he has over 300 mixes and most of them sound like BigTyme II, I don't understand why it gets all the praise
>now everybody in the hood...know your sister eat a booty real good
>>65494836
his best tape
>>65495777
his best track
trips confirm
>>65495837
He's not wrong, technically. Eccojams, the album that invented vaporwave, was heavily inspired by chopped and screwed.
>>65496849
i think Lopatin was more inspired by V/Vm and Negativland, he even included both of them in a dj mix he did for a radio a long while ago
>>65496595
I would say off the top of my head some essentials are:
Spice 1 - s/t & 187 he wrote
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S8K31tTV554
Z-ro - look what you did to me
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o5MfsTfgwac
Lil keke - Don't mess wit texas
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_kHMGX7aEJA
Big moe - city of syrup
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=InYgShc4V4k
Point blank - prone to bad dreams
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-cCqx8NgfnU
fat pat - ghetto dreams
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cHxI9vof7B0
there's really an argument for dj screw as talent scouter/record collector. loads of his most obscure mixes on his tapes are just fucking amazing groups i'd never have heard of otherwise. his version of the terrorists' blow dem hoez up is one of my all time favourite hip hop tracks
>>65496910
and John Oswald, of course
>>65496916
Thank you.
I feel like all screwed up is seen as his career peak on the internet whereas in real life most ppl say "3 n da mornin". they're both obviously standouts just for the sheer brilliance of the mixing but im not sure which i'd go for.
>>65496970
let the people decide

>>65496970
beyoncé put a track from 3 in the mornin on a playlist she made on tidal
>>65497040
I feel like people only rate Endonesia for the ugk remix. It's definitely sick but he has loads of better tapes
>>65497135
to be honest i prefer ghetto smile from endonesia
>>65496916
lovely painting
>You came to the hospital to cheer a brotha up
>Soon as you left, went through the hood and tried to tear my name up
>But I'm finna set it straight, that other day / what really went on
>I tried to Kill myself fool / So to me wasn't nothing wrong
damn
>>65497352
honestly I can't really listen to too much dj screw cause I just find some of it so oppressively bleak. especially when he does their voices like that so each word rings out and really starts sinking in like some ominous ghosts speaking from the grave, its like listening to joy division at its most
>"As the days go by my life has changed..."
>>65497413
>>65497352
"Don't it feel funny when you go down to eat her
knowin that you suckin on another nigga's peter
And when ya get a kiss, do ya feel bliss?
knowin that ya swallowed all that semen and that piss?"
Damn...
Is there any flowchart? I feel this is the kind of artist that would need one because he has so many records...
>>65497503
well outside of the essentials people mentioned above most of his records are the stuff you just stick on and slip away to, i prefer finding highlights on my own cos they're usually not the same as other people's
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qEHPgKaGoX8
^that only has about 4000 views for instance. figure it out if you can.
but yh endonesia, 3 in the mornin, and bigtyme vol. ii are obviously the beginners essentials. and you should be relatively versed in southern hip hop to start
>>65497572
oh wow, that sade mix
perfect
>>65497352
Mind Went Blank is probably the realest representation of depression i've heard in a song.
>>65497503
Here are some songs you can sample

>>65494836
should have ended after track 9. otherwise 10/10
don't know why it didn't either, that would have still made it 50 minutes long. hip hop has a serious album length problem in general
>>65497993
I think its because in the 90s they'd leave the tapes in their car while riding around, so they want the album to be long enough to last the ride or slip back on when they get back in. Brian eno also says the fact hip hop was originally played in cars is the reason its so loud on the bass kick drums, cause u need heavy bass for car speakers
>>65497503
whats everyones favorite tape? mine is chapter 13: leanin on a switch
>>65498150
"don't make dollars don't make sense"
every cut on that is just unbelievable to me. definitely my most listened
he has loads of good ones though. "late night fuckin yo bitch" makes me wish he did sooo much more rnb than he did.
and "no drank" for the freestyles
>>65498250
one of the reasons i love leanin on a switch so much is that d'angelo song, rnb sounds amazing screwed
the true father of vaporwave
What did screw do other than just slow it down? I can't replicate that sound for the life of me
I know he really layered it and messed with mixing each track but i think he was really just an artist with it. And I'm pretty sure he's actually playing keyboards on some of them
>>65498329
on all screwed up he adds other samples and sounds on top, other than that its almost all turntable skills
>>65498487
its quite amazing. the xylophone(?) sample on tell me something good just totally transports the song
>>65498329
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FSmMoVf1j_8
>>65496595
moe, keke, pokey, fat pat, big hawk, 3-2, lil flip, yungstar, al-d
he needs a big reissue project desu. i feel like his audience outside houston should be so much bigger, he really is a landmark in hiphop. i know im a big fan so im biased but still
>>65500244
3 n the Mornin Part Two was just reissued on picture disc
>>65498604
he gets that from the song "moments in love" by art of noise
