When listening to music, how exclusive is your attention? Do you try your hardest to do absolutely nothing else, or are you ok with mild internet surfing or other mundane activities? I'd like to hear perspectives on multitasking while engaging with music.

Most of the time for the first listen of something I'll do it with some kind of other activity. Internet surfing is good because if the music is interesting I can always just stop what I'm doing and focus on the music. From this first distracted listen I can determine whether I think the music is worth listening to again and focusing just on the music.

Listening while driving is also good. I'd say driving only takes up maybe 10-20% of your attention span, just enough that you can focus pretty much all the rest on the music.

My method of choice is to listen to new albums while I'm driving, but now that my AUX plug is fried I have to rely on my second favorite which is hiking.

Same. Glancing over articles, in my opinion, actually enhances the experience.

if i´m at live concert i wanna focus coz i fucking paid for that shit, if im at home i usually am doing music myself or browsing imageboards while having some full album or mixtape on. if i´m shopping i´d rather skip hearing any fucking mainstream songs.

99%, the other 1% being for concentrating on tasks like walking, blinking, chewing gum, walking, etc.

I don't try too hard to concentrate on the music at all. I just sort of naturally zone out whenever something attention-grabbing is on.

Usually I'm playing a video game you really don't have to think about, Civ V on easy difficulties, Dark Souls (played it enough to where it's really just muscle memory) or New Vegas. I also go for walks and do photography. Since I've been unemployed I practically listen to music all day now while doing some minute task since silence makes me extremely uncomfortable, even if I'm just walking around the house I'll have some Bach playing or something.

When i listen to music i usually break out diablo 2 or 3 because i can just go on auto-pilot in-game and focus on the music.
